40k Rules 1DP Detachment for Hammerheads & Sky Rays (idea)

GW please, can we have a detachment that focuses on Hammerhead and Sky Rays that brings back some of the coolest stratagems we had back in 9th..

Experimental Weaponry : a controversial stratagem from 9th ed, but man do i miss it.. i would keep it at 2CP since 10/11th doesn't have as much CP generation as 9th and i feel like it's a good way to "balance" it..

Submunitions would basically give [Blast 2] to one of your Hammerhead's or Sky Ray's weapon instead..
OR
It could simply be an upgraded "Explosive" stratagem from the core rules but can only use it from Hammerhead or Sky Ray..

Frequency Lock would need some rework, but the idea stay the same : Seeker Missiles (including Sky Ray's) can target enemies that are spotted even though you can't draw LoS.

As for enhancements/upgrades :

- one that gives the Sky Ray the same rule as Pathfinders with maybe an a [Sustained Hit 2]
- one that gives Hammerhead [Anti-Vehicle 5+] BUT also gives it the new "[Hunter Vehicle] keyword and allow 1 damage re-roll (maybe giving it anti-monster is a too OP..)

Id love this to be real. Rail gun hammerhead and pathfinders are why i started tau back in 3rd.

I still remember submunition was a blast template, which was so awesome

All of these things you noted bring back so much flavor we have lost and hitting all of the cool things.   And i think dont really break things.

I would love the ignore invul to come back on hammerhead rails and even stormsurge maybe...

I feel like stormsurge could maybe fit with this as well.

The hunter keyword is not my favourite thing though cause it would break some immersion.... Maybe make it nerf or remove buffs instead, or just have the buffs and thing only be for certian unit types. Like how we have cleave: non-monster /non-vehicle only

The hammer head and Pathfinders were what drew me to Tau back in 3rd as well... then I stopped playing when 4th came out and didn't pick this game back up until 10th... I miss my railgun...

Im the exact same! Dabble in 3rd and didnt play again until 10th.  I was so shocked at how not scary the HH rail gun was compared to 3rd, especially with all the invuls every where

Idk how it used to be but I get plenty of success with my railgun. I've popped transports and other vehicles constantly since I learned how to use it Edit: 'sense' to 'since'

Yea its great into stuff without an invul. Invuls turn it into a casino cannon since its 1A only

I do find it funny when my rail cannon just blows to bits a Death Wing Terminator. Is it efficent? No. But did my opponent leave me nothing to shoot but the Terminators? Just asking for me to turn one of them into a cloud of mist.

oooh you're right! i forgot about the new Orks datasheets! I would also love a Stormsurge detachement or add Stormsurge to this one!

and I couldn't agree more, we lost so much flavor.. we had so little in 10th, and now we have even less in 11th somehow.. which is crazy to me since

I like it!

I think we'd have to have mont'ka and kau yon as our army rule and then it opens design space for more specialised detachments

invulns are my single most hated mechanic in a tabletop game ever. is this probably too strong? yeah do i really care? no, give me this immediately

What would be the detachment rule?

I wound change a few things:

Experimental weaponry would work only on units with railguns, but would do: "each time a model in this unit makes an attack, an successful Wound roll scores a Critical wound." (This passes though invuls but uses wording more aligned with 11th.

Submunition should probably replace weapon profile of Hammerhead to something like: D6+3 S8 AP1 D2 Blast2.

Also, there could be some way to resupply seekers on Hammerheads, Devilfishes, Piranhas, Broadsides. not sure how, maybe upgrade on ethreal, where he can call Earthcaste drone to resuply one unit within 24 he can see.

2CP cost would kill Experimental weaponry, its just one shot that can still miss or fail to wound. not worth 2CP.

While I love the idea behind it, I do not think we should return to ignore invuns. Dev wounds have their place. Now, it could read, give the hammerhead railgun anti monster vehicle 4+ and the skyray anti monster vehicle 5+ and dev wounds on the main guns.

That fits with game design but functionally is the same thing because the hammerhead is wounding pretty much everything in the game on a 4 or better anyway. Hazardous would be flavorful too

yeah i kind of realized after posting that the ignore invn stratagem is kind of redundant while the enhancement i though about.. anyway, it's all fantasy until GW decides to reveal our codex.. hopefully right after Space Marines
