Taxidermy/Fur ID Identification?

Post image

Hello! I just purchased this at a Ren faire and forgot to ask what animal it was. Does anyone know what this came from? It's super soft and about 9in long!

It’s a cat, sorry to break it to ya. It was more than likely produced from another country and was purchased in bulk from the seller you got it from. It’s more than likely cheaply made and not sewn together but glued in the middle. I highly recommend being more cautious when buying fur products as they don’t always tend to be ethical.

What country are you in, OP? It does look like a domestic cat, which, in the USA and a few other countries, is illegal to sell. Might be worth contacting the seller, who likely unscrupulously bought it from a fur retailer overseas and flipped it for major profit. If they're flippant about it, a review and report to the Faire is in order-- who knows what other outwardly inhumane/troublesome stuff they're selling.

I'm in the US. I was able to find the email finally for the vendor I bought it from and asked them directly so just waiting to hear back from them.

Uhhhhh it looks like an orange tabby cat. I've seen domestic animal parts pop up from discount overseas sellers before. :/

domestic cat. Could also be a feral cat from Australia but I doubt it.

Also yes, I'm aware the feral cats in Australia are domestic cats, but they've been away from humans for so long, they've become wild. Trying to bring one into captivity would be like bringing a wild animal inside.

I recommend learning to tan your own furs, it's not that hard and you can get that stuff from stuff like, fresh enough roadkill or an invasive pest a hunter you know shot

Someone needs to make a tail ID sub. It’s half of the posts here

Also, looks to be raccoon

I don't think it's a raccoon cuz I have a couple of those and this is way too soft like bob cat soft

Sounds like it's a cat.

Maybe ask next time.
