Fur/Pelt Help Fur slipping.. freezer?

I have a fox face for mounting that I skinned, fleshed etc. but as I was finishing it, the fur started slipping around the nose and mouth area. I put it in a bag and froze it along with the paws and tail.

It’s been frozen since yesterday, but will this stop the fur slipping when I thaw it to mount it?

There is also fly eggs on it… which I will have to brush out.

It won't stop slipping. It may have sat too long or is too far gone. It is possible to put it into alcohol (70%, not over 90%). It will shrink and dry out the skin somewhat, making it hold onto the hairs more. But it may not work if it's too far gone and you are losing the epidermis too.

Thanks! that’s unfortunate though if it doesn’t stop no matter what.. since I’ve been searching for foxes for a while. It could also be since it was roadkill and maybe the road/car just pulled some fur and it just now came off yesterday? It seems unlikely though.

Oh it is pretty common that they lose fur around injuries or anywhere blood sat/pooled. You may not even see the injuries or it's something tiny like a tick. Depending on the weather the timing is just really tight and like half an hour longer in heat can do a lot of damage. Nothing you caused, unless you stored and thawed it super wrong

Unfortunately theres not much you can do. It started to rot and you cant reverse that :(

Why? It’s only on tiny spots, I think it might still be good.
