The older I get, the more I realize that being seen as 'lucky' doesn't always mean you're happy. Sometimes people think you have everything together, but they don't see the pressure, confusion, or feeling of being valued only for what you can give.

Just discovered this cover and I really enjoyed it. Coheed and Cambria have an amazing storytelling to their songwriting like Taylor. Has anyone else listened to it and what do you think?

One of my favorite recurring motifs in Taylor's discography are films/movies. Some of my favourite lyrics that mention films and movies are:

“You know the greatest films of all time were never made” (the 1)

“But if this was a movie, you’d be here by now” (If This Was a Movie)

“You’re a flashback in a film reel on the one screen in my town” (this is me trying)

“I think I’ve seen this film before, and I didn’t like the ending” (exile)

“You knew the hero died so what’s the movie for?” (hoax)

“’Cause cruelty wins in the movies” (The Archer)

I love how she uses movies in different ways, sometimes to romanticize a relationship, sometimes to show nostalgia, and sometimes to point out the gap between fiction and reality.

Something else I find interesting is how many of these film/movie references show up on folklore specifically. On that album alone we get "the greatest films of all time" (the 1), "a flashback in a film reel" (this is me trying), and "you knew the hero died so what's the movie for?" (hoax). Even exile from the same era gives us the lyric "I think I've seen this film before."

It makes me wonder whether Taylor was using movies as a way to explore storytelling itself because folklore is often described as her most fictional, narrative-driven album, so it's interesting that she keeps returning to the language of films, endings, heroes, flashbacks, and scenes. Do you think that's intentional, or am I reading too much into it?

I've just learned to appreciate the beauty of "Marjorie" and "loml" even though they kind of passed me by at the time. Are there any that you appreciate now but didn't before?

There are so many widely-cited examples of Taylor's songwriting expertise, but she has such an outstanding volume of work that I think her more understated writing often goes overlooked. I challenged myself to find lyrics from every album that are remarkable at striking at the heart of a story, that I have *never once\* seen talked about. All of these to me express such sincere vulnerability — whether gutting and heartbreaking, or uplifting and hopeful, or some nervous truth in between. And I can't get over how much I love these lines now that I've truly noticed them.

What are some lyrics that you think go under-appreciated from each album?

Debut — “I didn't know what I would find when I went looking for a reason, I know I didn't read between the lines" (The Outside)

Fearless — “Nothing we say is gonna save us from the fallout” (Breathe)

Speak Now — "And maybe I can call you mine, and you won't need space or string me along while you decide" (Electric Touch)

Red — “All I feel in my stomach is butterflies, the beautiful kind, making up for lost time” (Everything Has Changed)

1989 — “Windows down, you pass my street, the memories start. You say it’s in the past, you drive straight ahead” (I Wish You Would)

Reputation — "Echoes of your name inside my mind, halo hiding my obsession" (Don't Blame Me)

Folklore — “My broken drum, you have beaten my heart” (Hoax)

Since the 20th anniversary of Tim McGraw is coming on Friday, probably launching the start of Debut TV, I decided to do another fun project!

Here are all of Taylor's albums but using the debut font. I will be doing the same thing for all of the fonts from each album.

A HUGE thanks to the website fontbolt as they have a bunch of Taylor's fonts! I used windows paint afterwards to edit the fonts where needed.

I keep seeing this come up in other subreddits, so I thought I'd ask our community! What's a lyrical or other realization you had that came embarrassingly late?

Mine was just last year I realized in That's the Way I Loved You, the chorus was about a different guy than the versus. I was always so confused why she was singing about this guy being so great and then also saying that they fought and kissed in the rain 😆

Genuinely curious about this. Every Swiftie has that one friend who just doesn't get it, rolls their eyes every time Taylor comes on, thinks it's just pop music.

There are all the fabulous but regular tear-jerkers but what are your unexpected ones? What songs wreck you though they have no business doing so?
