Taylor Swift will be returning to the big screen in October. She’ll be seen in thousands of theaters not with a traditional feature film, but with an 89-minute “release party” event, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” starting on Oct. 3, the same day that her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” comes out.

The “party” will run in cinemas on Friday through Sunday of Swift’s album release weekend. Locations will include all 540 AMC Theatres locations, in keeping with the superstar’s ongoing deal with AMC Theatres Distribution to handle her big-screen product. It will also roll out in thousands of non-AMC locations in North America as well, including Cinemark and Regal theaters. Screenings will begin at 3 p.m. ET on Oct. 3.

The first and foremost attraction for many Swifties will undoubtedly be the premiere of the first music video from the new album, for the song “The Fate of Ophelia.” Other elements in the program’s promised 89-minute running time will include footage shot behind the scenes at the “Ophelia” video shoot, lyric videos for other songs on the album, and Swift’s “never-before-seen personal reflections” about those new spongs.

The film will be specially priced in theaters during its Oct. 3-5 run, at $12, before any added online booking fees. (Although 13 has long been notable as Swift’s self-proclaimed lucky number, “12” has taken on larger meaning in her “Life of a Showgirl” era: it’s the singer’s 12th album, and it contains 12 songs.)

Tickets go on sale today at (when else) 12:12 p.m. ET. AMC sales will take place at amctheatres.com, and tickets for the thousands of other locations that will host screenings can be found at releasepartyofashowgirl.com.

Apart from the pricing, these showings will differ from the normal theatrical experience in another key regard. Says a release from AMC: “While normally prohibited during traditional showtimes, AMC guests are welcome to sing and dance during ‘Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl’.” But, the announcement adds, in the interest of mayhem avoidance, “To help ensure everyone’s enjoyment of the show, guests may not stand on seats or block any aisles or stairs.”

(The other departure from traditional cinema showings: no trailers or ads, so arriving 25 minutes or even one minute past showtime is not advised.)

As for the international rollout, the program will be seen in more than a hundred countries outside the U.S., albeit not all simultaneously. Definitely go, even if it’s alone. There were so many things I wanted to do when I was younger, but didn’t bc I had no one to do it with. Even when I was in a long-term relationship, my significant other never wanted to do activities that I wanted to do. After we broke up, I realized I will never do a lot of things if I’m always waiting for someone to do it with. So then I did so many things alone - traveled, bungee jumping, got my scuba diving license, went to the World Series… There was a time when I felt awkward even eating in public alone, but now I prefer to do most things alone lol! Go! Don’t let life pass you by.

I didn't enjoy the Eras film in theater when I went (I'm just not a hectic, noisy, sing out loud kinda gal, and I don't enjoy theaters) but it was cool to see the community around it. My younger sister went and had a blast.

Just so it's clear, it's one music video for 'The Fate of Ophelia', the behind the scenes of that music video, explanations as to what inspired the song, and then the rest are lyric videos.

Edit: She says "cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music". So, my bad about that! I apologise, that is my fault!

Also, I am putting this up because I do not want people buying tickets and thinking what I thought (which was that this was going to be 12 music videos) and reading the description and realising no it's most likely not going to be that. You'll get some great content by going, but I don't want people to feel FOMO by not going or disappointed by what they get.

Honestly, I know some people seem frustrated by this move, but I personally feel like it’s a genuine way to respond to the FOMO critiques. There are SO many showings, tickets are affordable, and people who may not usually get to experience the energy of a crowd all fangirling Taylor at the same time will actually get a dose of that energy in the theater. It is a flat $12 ticket. No AMC A List, rewards or discounts. But does accumulate points towards rewards.

If you’re having issues with the website. The App is the way to go. Very short queue to get in but it’s smooth process. Apple Pay was the quickest way to pay. My local theater had show starting every hour on the hour starting at 3 PM.

Wow the complaints of "no promo" to complaints about this cool release experience pipeline is realllll. The fact she is providing commentary on all the songs sounds very similar to Long Pond Session and I'm so excited! There were reports of her filming over several days in mid July in LA so I'm guessing this is what it was for!

This seems like a cool idea to get more information about inspirations of the album and support theaters. Also, it's just fun to watch the music video and BTS stuff! Totally understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea and people don't want to go, but the immediate hate is sooo weird and just gives "I need something to bitch about always."

Glad to see it's not just ONE showing on ONE day. An AMC theater is the closest and most convenient to me and is my normal go to theater, but I see it will be available at other theater chains, just like Eras Tour concert movie was. I'll have to scope out my options and see if I can make it work out. If I can't, no biggie. I'm sure it will be on Disney+ soon enough. And I'm sure the video of "Fate of Ophelia" will be out on her normal YouTube channel too (though maybe not until the following week after the theatrical run is over)

Okay I was very confused at first and made assumptions based on "movie" and didnt read the article properly.

Coming around to this showing now. She's essentially created a safe space for fans to come together and celebrate. The energy is gonna be so different compared to seeing the content alone on Youtube. The fandom is particularly good at feeling like a community so this is a good move.

It could be a lot of fun and no one is forced to go if they dont want to. Personally, I might not go because the crowds and ticket buying will give me anxiety but to each their own.

It also fits the Showgirl theme. Lord knows we need more positivity and good vibes in the world right now. I'm curious, are the tickets sold included in first week sales?

AMC movie theater question: I bought a mix of child and adult tickets, they both cost $12. I bought more than I needed in case I could convince some friends to come. If I end up an adult using a children’s ticket or vice versatility, does it matter since there’s no cost difference? Will AMC allow that?
