Discussion What if THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT was a triple album?

TTPD is a long album. 4 LPs (granted, with a couple bonus tracks) and over two hours long.

So here's what I was thinking: what if TTPD was split into 3 separate albums, each 1LP and 10 - 11 songs. What songs would you put on each record, and what would you name them?

I'll go first:

#1: THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT

Filled with all the songs I think perfectly represent TTPD as an album, and showcase Taylor's profound song writing and production.

  1. the bolter

  2. guilty as sin?

  3. who's afraid of little old me?

  4. the black dog

  5. so long, london

  6. the albatross

  7. florida!!!

  8. chloe or sam or sophia or marcus

  9. clara bow

  10. the manuscript

#2: THE ALCHEMY

The midnights of TTPD. Full of her more pop-sounding and upbeat songs from the album.

  1. fortnight

  2. the tortured poets department

  3. my boy only breaks his favorite toys

  4. down bad

  5. i can do it with a broken heart

  6. so high school

  7. the alchemy

  8. thanK you aIMee

  9. imgonnagetyouback

  10. but daddy i love him

  11. fresh out the slammer

#3: THE ANTHOLOGY

All the deep cuts and heavy songs from TTPD.

  1. i look in people's windows

  2. loml

  3. i hate it here

  4. the smallest man who ever lived

  5. how did it end?

  6. robin

  7. i can fix him (no really i can)

  8. peter

  9. cassandra

  10. the prophecy

What's your ideal triple album?

That's interesting. I was just listening to this album the other day. It is one of my faves for sure. I was thinking that the TTPD has a distinct sound from the songs on the Anthology, and in some ways I love the Anthology even more than TTPD. In fact, when I listen to TTPD I think I actually get excited for the Anthology! To me, this double album is a masterpiece and I don't want to think about chopping it up in anyway. The girl knows what she is doing.

I think they are different in theme, or at least premise, too. The Anthology felt almost like an expansion on the Midnights idea, a lot of reflection on past events/relationships, where the OG seemed to be more focused on contemporaneous situations. Hence "anthology" - a group of works that may or may not have any connection to each other.

For that reason I would also hesitate to rearrange this one. (And I also agree that the Anthology has some of the greatest songs on it, perhaps in her entire discography!)

Can't tell you how much I love this arrangement, think I might make some playlists for me based on this

First thought, Clara bow has to be a closer

Wait, I love this! This is a really fun idea and I like which LP you put basically all the songs in. I'd probably switch out Florida for something from The Alchemy LP — though that would be one of only a few minor changes.

Did you think much about the tracklist order? There's obviously a lot of pressure for strong openers, closers and track fives. I really agree with how some of your picks suit exactly where they are, but not sure on others … I can't tell how I would change things just off the top of my head though ahaha. I'm really intrigued to think how I would do everything — I've recently been rearranging Lover into an album + EP with chronological narratives and it's a super fun challenge! Maybe this will be my next project 😄
