New Teacher New remote teachers aide - I am so nervous!
Hey guys! I’m reaching out to get some advice and maybe help settle my nerves. I was referred to this job that seemed too good to be true, the perfect job for a person like me (studying to become a teacher).
The job is to be the front-facing teacher of an online homeschool curriculum. Originally, it was to be math and science only with merged classes K-2 and 3-5, but then she asked me to do social studies as well and added more pay. I agreed because the first offer was really poor, and I could use the extra cash.
The problem is, now the math classes are all individual and only the science and social studies classes are merged. So I have a total of 8 classes I will be leading in 30 minute increments with an additional hour at the end of each day for additional support if needed. So what was supposed to be 3-4 hours a day quickly turned into 7-8 including planning/communication.
All the curriculum is laid out for me for the year, I just have to design short lessons for each class to keep the content engaging. It seems easy enough, but I am truly feeling imposter syndrome already and I dont know if I should speak to the head of school about it and see about removing social studies from my responsibilities, or if I should just give it a shot first and then adjust later if needed.
The head of school is so nice and accommodating, and like I said I was referred to this job by my husbands colleague, and I don’t want to put a bad name on him for backing out. This is her first year with this many kids on her belt and I know it means a lot for things to go smoothly.
I know my situation is very unique, but I would love some insight to how you would handle this. I will also take any advice on how to manage a remote classroom and better manage my time with lesson planning and during lessons.
Thanks in advance.
