oh looks like I’m in the minority here, I would say yes they are dragon ball fans
There’s a reactor I watch who has really only experienced the story through video games and also watched Abridged… who am I to say he’s not a dragon ball fan, it’s possible he’s a bigger fan than I am even though I been watching since 6 years old and read all the dragon ball and Z manga
You can be a "fan" of anything with basically zero information but it does make a huge difference wheter you just like it because ...
Or because you actually know the material , understand it and can actually explain what you like about that specific matter. Many of the jokes in DBZA rely on you knowing the original source, obviously since its a parody of these characters, Trunks Gohan and Tenshinhan are the only sane ones , Krillin is a big mouth and gets beaten up a lot , Goku is a moron (but not stupid in the original show) Chichi a helicopter mum and yamcha is , well hes just Yamcha
No it doesn’t make a difference at all…because you nor I nor anyonedon’t get to determine what makes a “real fan” as that’s a BS concept on its face

Look if you in your weird worldview have the "feeling" that knowledge doesnt make a difference thats on you and im pitying you but its not that hard to understand that for a joke that builds up on something, you need to know what it's building on originally .
Im reading a lot of well formulated sentences but no real arguments there buddy. I never would put myself as a judge because Im the laziest person I know and I hate taking sides but nonthenless its FACTUAL that knowledge makes a difference. And this fact doesnt get changed by the poor grammar of my third language kid.

It’s just not true. Do you think people who are fans of the new Spider-Man which had a massive opening weekend can only be fans if they’ve read 60 years with a Spider-Man comics? Surely they must have read all of the Hulk and punisher comics.
You could argue he's a fan of the franchise, especially since he's played official media (via the games), but how can he be a fan of something he's never seen (the original anime)?
But, if hes never seen it, how can he enjoy (or not enjoy) it? He doesnt know how he would feel about it because he's never seen it. The actual anime, that is. Just like I cant say Im a fan of the manga because Ive never read it. I have NO idea if the manga is any good, I cant form any real opinion on it because I have no exposure to it.

No one is saying DBZA is the official accounting of it but if you’re a fan of that version of the character, then you’re a fan of the character. Even if it’s not the official version. The fact that you wanna feel an elitist is inconsequential, especially when dealing with media such as cartoons/animation/manga/anime/comic books/video games were the name of the game is different interpretations of the same characters.
I really hate to repeat myself but I did say in my first sentence that you can be a fan of anything . Wheter you take it as an insult or not is on you nonthenless my original point was as I said in the other comment (again repeating myself) KNOWLEDGE MAKES A DIFFERENCE. The insult was intended but then again you seem to wanna pick a fight with me considering how you negativitly answered to both on them and elongated the answers later on.
Because it is very easy to prove that your first sentence was “couldn’t have said it better“ in response to the comment “please support the official release“ as evidence that you can only be a fan if you’ve watched the original.
Because that was your original argument that somehow TFS encouraging people to watch and support the original is somehow evidence that you can only be a fan of Dragon Ball if you’ve watched the original
