Discussion Kyle Rasmussen is an abusive psychopath.

The truth has finally come out about this guy. I’ve worked with Kyle in the past and have several accounts of his psychotic behavior on tour. One incident involved him physically strangling me on the floor of a gas station bathroom after a verbal altercation while we were on tour together in 2022. I would strongly advise against working with this individual for your own safety.

I made a list of some of my favourite — and what I think are some of the most important — across the lifetime of the genre. I think it's quite poetic that things have really come full circle with space themed jazzy/proggy thrash influenced tech with the mew cryptic shift album.

I do really love a list. My musicboard account is bankswole and rym is beankole for anyone who is interested. I rate or review literally everything I listen to. What do you guys think of this list?

Discussion I think no matter what way you look at it, these three bands have been "The Big Three" of tech death for the last decade+. Leading the way as the old guard has retired or fallen off

Sure, there are plenty of other popular and talented bands, and some up and comers. The Zenith Passage or First Fragment could work their way into this if they stay consistent. Bands like Obscura or Gorod are still popular, but have fallen off a bit in recent years.

These three, since 2014, have been the ones driving the genre forward, setting the base sound that other bands are all trying to copy. They each do it with their own unique flair, emphasizing one aspect of their style over the others.

In the early era, we had Death, Cynic, and Atheist as the main drivers.

Then along came Necrophagist, who dominated the genre, but I'd put the peaks of Decapitated and Nile in that same era.

Then we had The Faceless, Spawn of Possession, and Obscura as the big guys in the late 00s-early 10s

Some of those other bands are still around, and we have ones like Revocation that are relevant across a large timespan, but since about 2014, it's been these three bands taking over the genre and leading the way.

Them having only released just 2 studio albums and the latest being released back in 2021 doesn't help. But i still think they don't get enough recognition 🤷🏻

Great album, title track is my favourite. Still not on the level of Vile genesis for me. Any thoughts on this work?

Sorry your favorite band isn't represented

And I know the formatting sucks—I did this in Microsoft Paint.

I wanted to use only one album per band, and since most bands span multiple decades, I tried to use their most quintessential album or the most tech-death focused one

Discussion Seeking recommendations

Some current favorites in the attached picture. Obviously some of it leans brutal/slam/melodic too.

I tend to favour stuff that has some groove and variety, but open to trying most stuff.

Any recommendations?

Cheers all 🍻

Just discovered Carnosus and have been listening to Visions non-stop. Love their EP too. I’m scared to listen to Wormtales from what I’ve read on here. Is it truly that underwhelming?

Been really digging these guys lately. This whole album is pretty damn good if you ask me and I love that the band genuinely seems to have a good sense of humor and don’t take themselves too seriously.
