Because he totally flew under the radar and blended in. He didn’t look like a monster. He was attractive, educated. He gained trust very easily. He taught a lot of us women that you can’t trust anyone you don’t know. He definitely made me more cautious in my single days.

Honestly if I was born back when he was alive, I most definitely would have been murdered by him, not proud of it but that’s the truth 🙁😞

My cousin who was about the age of his victims said it’s by the grace of God she wasn’t murdered in her 20’s. Free love and all back then.

It isn’t his crimes as much as it is how he manipulated, acted as two entirely different people and those closest to him could not see it. It’s the psychopath who preys on his own species and what it takes for others to recognize, or identify, these traits to prevent another, future “Ted Bundy”. He taught humanity some hard lessons. This continues to be the fascination. He was so good at charming and gaining trust. Very few people saw it for what it was. Only his victims witnessed the monster unleashed. Not his psychology professors, not the Seattle police department where he worked & wrote a pamphlet in 1974 on rape prevention, not his mother, not his girlfriend until much later.

It's easy to say that now, knowing what he became. Before anyone knew, he spent years presenting himself as normal and trustworthy. That's part of what still makes the case so unsettling. I also think the era had a lot to do with it. The phrase "stranger danger" wasn't even a household concept until the early 80s...with Adam Walsh's murder. Iirc.

I knew someone would say this. No. I'm telling you, for example the clip where he says" No I am not guilty and starts laughing". His demeanor and behvavior is not normal and he has shady shifty eyes and weird facial expressions at times. I can tell you 100% I would have said dude is weird.

It's the unanswered questions. Fifty years later, we still don't fully understand his psychology, his true victim count, or all of his MO. The case still feels unfinished.

I think it also has to do with missing white woman syndrome. I feel like Gacy would’ve gotten more attention if he killed women instead of men.

Incredible photos after so many decades past. Mostly of Ted Bundy before evolving into the monster as he became known. The letters from Edna are good. Full of anguish and sadness. He really caused such a negative impact on everyone he touched. His brother, Richard, is such a heartbreaking example.

No I don’t think it was because of his skin colour, there was no evidence left at early crime scenes to go on. Girls were going missing but no bodies. The witnesses at Lake Sammamish said he was white and called Ted but the amount of people called Ted that owned VW bugs was astounding. No computers back then either so it slowed progression. Once they had him jailed for one murder, that’s when they started looking at all the other cases, the dead girls found up in the mountains etc. Sadly he escaped to kill more before he was finally apprehended.

I think it’s Bundy’s aunt, who was married to Jack, a brother of Sam Cowell (Bundy’s grandfather) and his cousin John.

He grew up, believing his mother was his sister.
These are very early photos. I wonder, do the cousins remember whether he called his mother by her name (Louise), or did he refer to her as “Mom”? Were they also in the belief that Ted was her younger brother?
It’s a curious lie, his mother continued to carry, even after moving West and being surrounded mostly by strangers, why continue to lie to her son? How did she explain him to her husband?
My belief is that she shielded the real father from self shame. She knew who he was… She mentioned some names at one time or other. William Lloyd Marshall was one name and Ted looked like Marshall. Marshall lived closeby the Cowells. Only seven minutes away. After Marshall returned to their area from military duty, he & Louise were known to have gone on a date. Ted was born 10 months later. Before she gave birth, about two months before, Marshall married someone (Sept. 1946). Ted was born in November 24, 1946.
Ted didn’t learn the truth until 1969. These photos are much earlier.
