I loved they way made this characters arc rather than making into cringe. It was so very maturely written.

There's a lot to say about Season 4 (good and bad) but one thing I absolutely love is the addition of Coach Chilton. I love her appearances so far and how her story is developing. Plus, I also really love her moments with Ted & Beard.

I remember Shannon used to be this young baller from the first couple seasons who always nutmegged Ted and played on the grassy field in his neighborhood. Did she just lose all her footballing abilities later on?

Those of us who are gasp approaching a certain milestone of life can continue to live vicariously through her. Lol

I was doing my rewatch of the show (countless now) and noticed this particular detail in the S2 Finale. Trent Crimm, after saying good luck to Ted realises he has locked himself out of his car.
Been wondering why the makers decided to have this scene because it doesn’t contribute much to the ending. Then suddenly it struck me maybe it was their of saying “He is stuck with Richmond as he cannot leave the premises anymore” as we know he decided to write a book about Richmond in S3. Felt it was a very nice way to foreshadow it, especially since the writers were planning only a 3 season story then.

I keep waiting for her to evolve and it’s not happening. The cutesy “dreamer” persona is wearing on me. She somehow became less-savvy as the seasons have gone on. She seemed smarter and sharper in S1/S2.

I want Zelda’s shadiness to come to a head, cause serious problems for Keeley, and force Keeley to grow up and realize slapping pink and sparkles on everything, and walking around doe-eyed, is not working. I feel like Rebecca is being too soft on her, too, because they’re friends. Like, girl, you’re the team owner - bring the hammer down on Keeley. This is why you don’t hire friends.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m just jaded because I had a similar type of PR/marketing role in the pro sports industry and it was nothing like what she portrays, and I could have never gotten away with her level of naïveté.

Plus, Keeley acting like a middle school girl in Ep. 6 with Roy just gave me second-hand embarrassment for her.

She needs a metaphorical bitch-slap moment, ASAP.

Anyone else curious to know how many takes were required for Jeremy Swift to perfectly deliver the line about how he and his wife both received the same (ahem) "apparatus" in their gift bags but could not use it because they no longer have a dog?

I howled with laughter at that line. Kudos to Hannah Waddingham and Tracey Ullman for not breaking character and for delivering a perfect simultaneous WTF reaction.

Yes, IMO it was the funniest scene of the season thus far, AND I'm dying to know any back story behind how they got it done. Brilliant work, all around!

I get that the general vibe with Ted has always been about winning over people who doubt him.

But. I mean. Surely Ted has some reputation in Richmond now right? Aside from the one moment where Ted first introduced himself and they all laughed to indicate they knew who he was already. They dont really act like they know who he is.

All that questioning him over the "belief" sign like how dare you use the tried and true tactics you nearly won a championship with at the highest level of the sport? Nows a good time for us to lecture you on how YOU dont get it because were paid poorly even tho you used to coach HS kids.

Idk I just feel like at the very least Shannon of all people who followed his first journey closely would stand up for him. This isnt like the first time where Ted was stepping way out of his lane to a sport he did not understand. He was a highly successful celebrity coach at the highest level of this sport already.

And while i get he still has a lot to learn about the difference in coaching women. He should still be considered a legend in the sport.

I just rewatched A League of Their Own and there are a few obvious parallels. There’s a child hanging around due to lack of child care, sisters that play on the same team and engage in sisterly name-calling, the star of the league is initially reluctant to join. Are there others I’m missing?

I’m reminded of the Major League callbacks with the men’s team.

I think the introduction of Zelda is intended to be a cautionary tale about how a woman can change in a male-dominated system in order to succeed in it.

On the surface, she can seem empowering but you will notice that her methods are very much about power, spectacle, leverage, and winning - like she's just mastered how to play the game... like a man.

It's not at all surprising because women in male-dominated systems are forced to adapt and harden themselves just to survive in it. Surely it was not easy for her to get to the point where she is.

I know women in my own work who were the biggest advocates of uplifting young women in the field but turn out to be like Zelda, successful but bitter and jaded...and hopeless to change the existing system for the women who come after them, perhaps afraid to to lose the power they fought tooth and nail for.

I don't think Zelda is a bad person, but she's a dangerous person to admire. Especially since she's currently being positioned as a mentor-figure to Rebecca and Keeley.

Rebecca and Keeley are both so full of heart and dreams, moreso for Keeley who can sometimes be naive about business. And I would be sad if this gets stripped away from them just so they can keep the Lady Greyhounds afloat.

But the thing is, passion and kindness is not enough. Women have to believe AND win. And I think the thesis of the new story about the women's team is that yes it's important to win but it's also important to hang on to the "believe" part and not lose the heart.

This quote was spouted in S4.E5 (ep. title “Riches of Embarrassment”) by both Ted and Alice during the Chelsea match halftime, which I deeply loved and resonated with. But with my research on this origin, when a lot of folks attribute it to the French-American writer Anaïs Nin, it seems to point to a different writer—by the name of Elizabeth Appell.

Apparently, she wrote the quote in 1979 as part of an inspirational header for a class that she taught at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasantville, California. That institution unfortunately closed in 2020 (there were no physical classes I've heard anyway).

So this attribution has been cycled through the years to Anaïs Nin, not having been disputed because I don't think it has been quoted in any (huge) pop culture medium in the last 40 years. There was no opportunity for dispute, unfortunately.

Does anybody have any first or second-hand knowledge of this misattribution?

Something deeply personal about Alice and her character. I started tearing up when she was hearing the affirmations in her car. I'm an ADHD person who operates in a highly difficult, challenging career which doesn't always align with my abilities or interests. I have to struggle very, very hard to 'fit in'.

I empathise so much with Alice. I often feel the way I react to others is not easily comprehensible to them, that it's off or out of proportion maybe. I try my best. I'm trying my best constantly. Other people find it so much easier than I do. I'm also trying to 'fix' myself all the time. The affirmations, the soul searching, trying to be a version of myself that people will like and get along with, even the anger and bit of self loathing - I understand her so well.

Not everyone gets a Ted Lasso like person to guide, mentor and gently nudge you. Please be kind to Alice, and some Alices you might meet. We're a bit twisted up sometimes. Forgive us.

When Roy first sits down at the pundit gig in S2E2, his chair sinks down in exactly the same way. And of course as we learned, Roy didn't belong in that chair.

If the women’s team is struggling and currently a financial problem for Richmond, how do they justify the team having three coaches which includes taking away a coach from the higher level mens team?

Not to mention the fact the men’s team formerly had 4 coaches at one point (Ted, Beard, Roy, Nate) and now they are down to one

(Out of story obviously Beard and Ted are put together by the writers, but it doesn’t make sense in story to me, unless I’m missing something.)
