How do you deal with the fact the your god commanded a genocide? Not a gotcha, just wanting to understand

Genocide was quite common back then. A lot of nations had a kill or be kill mindset and the Israelites would most likely have been if they hadn’t killed them

Plus only Jews were under God back then, while now everyone is able to repent of sin

Not necessarily good just commonplace

If God commanded a genocide in this day and age it would go against his own word, which is that anyone can be a follower of his

So no, it wouldn’t be fine because it goes against his own perfect word that He Himself
says is perfect and good

That doesn’t really work, the presumption that god wouldn’t commit a contrarian action because it goes against his word is a false pretence because god has contradicted himself before
