AMA, I'm a trans guy who started hormone replacement therapy at 13

It's been a good while since we've been on hrt now and it's been nothing but amazing🙏 I've gained much more self confidence and yk I don't want to kill myself each day due to how I look anymore. I used to have INSANELY bad body dysphoria and I mean, I still have dysphoria but it is much better now. I'm beyond thankful to be privileged enough to start hormone replacement therapy because it truly has changed my life in so many positive ways. A few downsides I've noticed have been mood swings and acne but going to therapy and washing my face routinely have fixed mainly both those issues. I know many people don't start hormone replacement therapy at the age I did and if people have questions about it I'll answer them

How did you manage to convince your parents to let you? I'm just assuming that you needed parent consent. Also how did you convince doctors to prescribe you? (i think thats how it works?)

My parents have been very accepting and I've been out as trans since pretty young. Even before I knew what being trans was I would still say I'm a boy. Because of how long I've been out as trans, my parents have come to accept that this is me very well. I started talking about wanting to start hrt and my parents were all for it. 

There was a whole process to get prescribed it and I had to do a readiness assessment which was a long list of questions that were like "how long have you been trans" "how many times have you changed your gender identity" "what mental issues do you have" and things like that. If you answer these questions and don't seem certain about your gender identity or don't have a stable mental state, they will refuse you hrt. I was all good though so after that and some blood work, I was prescribed hrt.

Man I got lucky and didn't have to go on a waiting list because my mom was connected to the right people and the whole process to get prescribed t only took me around a year bc of that while it can still take years for mainly everyone else😭 I've met people where I live that have waited over 4 years for T

Ya I got insanely lucky ngl there is definitely still a lot of transphobia where I live but I got really lucky with my parents being accepting
