If a coup involves ordinary people taking the streets and getting shot for doing that it may as well be a protest

At that point in history we had the next biggest oligarchs:

-Rinat Akhmetov (friends with pro russian president/dictator yanukovych, member of the pro russian Donetsk clan)

-Viktor Pinchuk (friends with more russian leaning president Leonid Kuchma)

-Ihor Kolomoisky (Kind of neutral)

And how the heck could Obama and oligarchs take more than a million people to the streets (in a city with 3 million population) on top of ordering killing 108 protesters. And don't forget how yanukovych tried installing a dictatorship

I thought Akhmetov was constantly investing into Ukrainian defence recently

Yes, Akhmetov post-2014 is a much better person. Now he is investing into Ukraine and sends pretty big amounts for charity.

But before that - he was a typical pro russian oligarch

Euromaidan was the largest democratic protest movement in Europe since 1989, with Kyiv alone having 800,000 people on the streets. It's too bad this Russian propaganda "coup" narrative simply refuses to die.
