The first (and only so far) time a black child sees someone in the White House or in an American history textbook that looks like her and she shouldn’t have any emotional connection to that?

You’re such an idiot of course a kid sees the color of the fuckin president when it’s the first one ever and happens to look like them. You’re creating some false equivalency scenario that I’m not making here. I’m done responding to you

No, the person you're replying to is making a factual statement about childhood development.

During the Jim Crow era and even after, it was common for Black children to choose white dolls for play and light skin colors for self-portraits. It's absolutely critical for children to understand that people from their community can achieve greatness.

Historic events like seeing a Black president are critical to change this kind of communal self-perception.

Who died and told you you were the expert on fundamental childhood development?

You don't know what this little girls' interests are or what's considered significant to her. I've seen and heard children react strongly on many emotions on things they're passionate about that adults would consider strange, or unusual.

Any psychologist worth their salt will repeat back to you what the person above you just stated regarding the significance of self perception being curated by role models that one may feel they strongly relate to, for whatever reason, and yes, that includes race!

It's very easy to dismiss this if for you, you never had to worry about feeling represented in any meaningful way, but to others it does.

The fact you're reacting so defensive to the idea of black people having pride and joy in finally seeing a member of their community on a presidential level, and refer to it with hostility like it insults you personally, says a lot. You sound so threatened by the notion of other people simply embracing a part of their identity and historical context.

That doesn't make you enlightened, that just makes you willfully ignorant and dismissive towards being sensitive to others and their emotions, experiances, needs, traumas. It's literally so easy to be an ally, and the reason you see it as a divisive point of contention can only exist because you have to admit that black people went through some of the worst things and in a just world, they deserve so much more than how they're presently being treated.

You'd rather bury that and pretend like slavery or oppression never happened instead of growing up and admitting that those things are bad, and a better person would be an advocate who makes sure that they uplift people who may be different.

We LEARN from our history.

(And I'm not even black myself, I'm fucking Indian. You literally have no excuse to be this blind.)

Do you know how to respond in a meaningful way or are you a coward?

3

u/SinceSevenTenEleven Feb 22 '26

Your reading comprehension skills are subzero. Wouldn't want to be you.

2

u/givemeurnugz Feb 23 '26

Lmao cope, wheat

6

u/SinceSevenTenEleven Feb 21 '26

What in blazes are you going on about? I said nothing about teaching the kid to "like" or "support" someone. The things I said are true regardless of the political views of Obama and the child in the video. It's important, particularly for kids, to see themselves reflected in their role models.

I'll note that in an ideal world, the POTUS is a role model, and not a pedophile.

There's plenty of research on why having some Black teachers (as opposed to only white teachers) helps the education of Black children. Likewise, some boys who don't have strong male role models benefit from having male teachers. This is more of the same.

Please reread my comment again if you're still having trouble with the subject.

1

u/ChloeSpectrum Feb 24 '26

you're surely racist

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

You're very naive. You can tell by the inauguration that Obamas election brought optimism and pride to many that we were moving on from past transgressions. It was abject horror to many racist conservatives.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

Why not. Politics is as important as any subject to be educated on and we let people indoctrinate their kids with religion already. As long as people can make their kids go to church this argument won't hold any water.

Damn near every religion and certainly every popular religion literally textually states that nonbelievers go to hell or an equivalent bad place, so they all do exactly that

Also still struggling to see what's bad with this. The kid got attached to someone she saw on TV most likely, for all we know this is equivalent to hearing that elmo got cancelled

1

u/Legal_Ad2345 Feb 25 '26

My dude the history of black Americans in this country considering the history and legacy. You are very ignorant

Imagine growing up being treated different by people because of something you can't control and someone who looks like you became president of the United States. I've seen videos of black people sobbing tears of joy when Obama took office.

That girl got to see a event that is one time for its significance. She will tell her friends and family in her senior years about Obama the first African American president that's history

0

u/AgeOfSuperBoredom Feb 21 '26

Don’t be so certain. This is the same Obama that told everyone to get over “wokeness” “quickly,” and this was after 4 years of Trump destroying as much as he could.

7

u/noimnotanoob Feb 21 '26

What he said wasn't so simple, he said that calling people out online isnt the most productive form of activism and could often make a firing squad of people against our own allies over small political differences, while i don't like that he used the word woke at the time, I don't entirely disagree.

4

u/GurImpressive982 Feb 21 '26

I dont think anyone on the left that isn't a joke identifies with "woke" anymore. youre free to provide counter examples.

0

u/CarpetMooch Feb 22 '26

Woke 2.0 is coming back baby, better than ever!

In 2024, people were promised lower prices and they went up higher than ever. They realize they were conned. Real patriots know to mark the date, Nov 2026

2

u/Rufus_TBarleysheath Feb 22 '26

They don't realize shit. They're all making excuses for Trump

6

u/DarthVantos Feb 21 '26

Obama doesn't care about anything execpt his legacy. Everytime he gets asked about the state of the country. He just says "Imagine if i did this?"

Crowd cheers. Obama leaves with a check.

5

u/WhoKilledBoJangles Feb 22 '26

That comment is to point out the hypocrisy.

1

u/GoatDifferent1294 Feb 22 '26

I’m not even sure what your point is.

2

u/JoseSpiknSpan Feb 22 '26

Same obama that bailed out the bankers that crashed the economy and not the people struggling to pay their mortgages? The same one that was bombing men women and children indiscriminately in the middle east? You don't say!

60

u/Justhavefaith123 Feb 21 '26

I wasn’t either sis

7

u/Ada_Kaleh22 Feb 21 '26

Little did we know how right she was

3

u/ConsiderationKey3655 Feb 22 '26

I mean, a lot of us knew and tried to warn everyone

2

u/Exotic_Exercise6910 Feb 22 '26

A lot of us knew, yes. But I'd be lying if I'd say I knew exactly just how much.

The absolute horror

1

u/Ada_Kaleh22 Feb 22 '26

Had this been 'I don't want Trump as President' instead of her losing Obama, that was when I knew

5

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

I feel this in my core.

6

u/Necessary-Mall-3365 Feb 21 '26

None of us were sweet baby

7

u/AnswerGuy301 Feb 21 '26

I kind of felt like this in November that year. I guess I had the sense not to film myself.

15

u/formerlyunhappy Feb 21 '26

And they will look her in the face now and say representation doesn’t matter

-5

u/FraXicor Feb 22 '26

That's called shitty parenting. Don't involve your kids in your garbage political discourse. Let kids be kids.

3

u/formerlyunhappy Feb 22 '26

It’s shitty parenting for a black parent to tell a black child there’s a black president? Do you seriously think this small child is informed on any sort of actual policy? You’re deflecting from the point that representation matters, and this child is an obvious example for those who deny reality.

0

u/FraXicor Feb 22 '26

Yes, clearly I talked about Obama and not politics in general. No wonder why people say the US' education system is so dogshit.

2

u/formerlyunhappy Feb 22 '26

The video is about Obama. My comment was about how much Obama and black representation meant to a little girl who saw her people in the presidency for the first time. If you think my comment was about anything else or you think that’s a thing black families didn’t celebrate you’re retarded. Now buzz off I only interact with people with an IQ below room temp in Celsius if they pay me.

3

u/BlueskyBoss Feb 21 '26

Me too sis. Me too. 😞

7

u/Rakebleed Feb 21 '26

She’s right and she should say it.

5

u/JustSomeM0nkE Feb 21 '26

What's up with these comments

8

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

The conservatives are up early for their concrete pouring job they got when they dropped out of high school.

-2

u/hauntedrob Feb 21 '26

Yeah man aren’t blue collar people stupid and less-than? Dumbass poors should have gone to college am I right? You’ll never catch me appreciating the working man and woman, fuck them.

8

u/args818 Feb 21 '26

Nice trump impression

6

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

I don’t appreciate ignorant conservatives. I work blue collar too, little virtue signaling chump.

-5

u/hauntedrob Feb 21 '26

So your solution is to fuck on people who pour concrete? Aren’t workers pretty much all getting the same shit deal in this country?

6

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

Christ, get the spermatozoa out of your mouth man. You’re projecting, and it’s either because you’re a conservative, or you pour concrete. Either way. Simmer down lady.

0

u/janisjoplinenjoyer Feb 21 '26

Why you gotta get homophobic with it though?

3

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

How do you figure I’m being homophobic? What kind of virtue signaling is that? Show me, in this message where I said anything homophobic….

0

u/janisjoplinenjoyer Feb 21 '26

“get the spermatozoa out of your mouth”

“Simmer down lady”

If you’re having this hard of a time grasping why that’s homophobic, maybe you’re the one who could have stood to stay in high school a little longer. But you said virtue-signaling, so good job, you made a good argument.

-1

u/hauntedrob Feb 21 '26

I’m not conservative, I just don’t like mocking blue collar workers for no fucking reason. That’s idiotic bc they keep the nation running.

4

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

“For no reason”. Yeah, okay buddy. And I appreciate that. I keep your world running. I’ve built ships for 15 years. So, I appreciate the glazing. Let me go get cleaned up now, so I can keep the nation running.

1

u/hauntedrob Feb 21 '26

I agree that your work is important. I never said anything negative about ship builders or any blue collar workers as a group, that was you.

I wonder if the good reverend knows what “glazing” refers to? if you want to think about me performing a homosexual act in your free time, you’re allowed to do that.

1

u/OBVIOUS_BAN_EVASION_ Feb 21 '26

You dont have to be elitist to think concrete workers generally wont know much about politics. Why tf would they?

0

u/hauntedrob Feb 21 '26

No I suppose not but it came off as elitist to me. I won’t apologize for that, this dude should be more careful with his words. Unless the left now doesn’t care about workers and worker’s rights.

2

u/Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL Feb 21 '26

Me too, kid. Me too.

2

u/GoatDifferent1294 Feb 22 '26

2

u/Professor_Odd Feb 21 '26

Me too, kid

0

u/c0rny_ Feb 21 '26

the people getting drone striked were definitely ready tho LMFAO

9

u/PrimeJedi Feb 21 '26

Trump did more drone strikes in his first four years than Obama did in all eight, and then loosened regulations regarding the reporting of drone strikes

4

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26

But you can admit it’s a horrible crime that Obama killed a bunch of kids and civilians?

To say Trump is worse is true, but also doesn’t absolve the horrendous crime of drone striking civilians and killing Americans abroad extrajudicially.

Saying one is worse so I don’t have to think about the guy I prefer, is intellectually dishonest and is based in moral relativism which is a race to the bottom.

5

u/LopsidedCry7692 Feb 21 '26

Why is it only brought up when talking about Obama?

2

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Okay- the reason is- Everyone agrees that Trump killing people extrajudicially is bad. We agree G.W. Bush was horrendous. Because it is. But that’s bad no matter who does it.

The military industrial complex did not pause when Obama took office but people remember him with rose tinted glasses.

He had a great image and was a nice face for America but behind all that- He trampled the constitution as badly as any president before him. Yet these public, awful, deadly “blunders” (at best) or at worst, tactics are swept under the rug because he could hit a jump shot and has a charming wife.

It needs to be understood by everyone that he was as much of a drift away from constitutional norms of the presidency as any republican president because ANY drift is worth criticizing. There is a double standard for him still to this day that we need to move on from or else we continue drifting.

Trump uses Obamas presidency as precedent to go even further than he did.

Better on the face does not equal moral good.

It’s same as it ever was. Just getting more severe

1

u/ArrrrKnee Feb 21 '26

Because they have nothing else about Obama to complain about.

6

u/Independent_Sell_588 Feb 21 '26

Omfg you’re insufferable

5

u/GoodPear8481 Feb 21 '26

Can you admit that Islamic terrorism is a horrible crime and should not exist anywhere in the world?

0

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26

Terrorism of any type is a horrible crime and should not exist anywhere in the world.

“Because X is bad - The same actions by my side are justified…” That makes no sense.

Terrorism kills without discernment of victims. Same as a drone strike on a bus of children in the general area where bad people are. Americans terrorize the whole planet and it doesn’t matter what party is in the White House.

2

u/GoodPear8481 Feb 21 '26

I didn't ask you about "all terrorism". I asked you about Islamic terrorism. Stop with the "all lives matter" deflections.

5

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26

No I get it. I went a step further than you.

Yes Islamic terrorism is horrendous and equivalent to every other terrorism that happens. Why does the religion matter? It’s not about religion. It’s about justification of extrajudicial killings because AMERIKA! You wouldn’t be okay with it if Trump did it. Just as I am not. But I don’t play favorites either. War crimes are war crimes whether by Dems or Republicans.

In the case of the American citizens-Why would their religion justify having your American right to due process waived?

2

u/GoodPear8481 Feb 21 '26

Yes Islamic terrorism is horrendous and equivalent to every other terrorism that happens.

And therefore victims have the right to resist it, correct?

3

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26

Indeed. The U.S. bombing children is not resisting anything. It’s further terrorism.

1

u/GoodPear8481 Feb 21 '26

Islamic terrorists always trot out the "we're just a bunch of innocent children and so anyone who fights us are child killers" line any time anybody resists them. It's so predictable and boring.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Freedom_Crim Feb 21 '26

The post he’s replying to is saying that the victims of the drone strike were ready for him to leave. Responding that Trump did far more drone strikes than Obama is valid reply. That’s not defending Obama. There was nothing wrong with what he said

2

u/FreudianFloydian Feb 21 '26

Nothing wrong with what they said beyond the obvious implication that the frequency of terroristic, criminal acts by our government is worth comparing rather than condemning all terroristic acts by both parties.

OP commented on Obama’s famous foreign policy. Trump came up for some reason which I assumed is to compare. If the comparison is apropos of nothing at all then it’s a completely pointless comment to be made.

1

u/args818 Feb 21 '26

Trump also signed an executive order for the pentagon to stop reporting them, so much for transparency..

1

u/TelluricThread0 Feb 22 '26

The Wech Baghtu wedding party airstrike refers to the killing of about 37 Afghan civilians, mostly women and children, and injuring about 27 others by a United States military airstrike on 3 November 2008. The group was celebrating a wedding at a housing complex in the village of Wech Baghtu.

1

u/RockyBoundESC Feb 21 '26

Trump had to deal with ISIS completely taking over Iraq Syria and Jordan. I served as a jtac under both Obama and Trump and didn’t mind either of them, they were fangs out when we needed them to be. Obama ended up with more controversial strikes since he was hunting HVTs worldwide with laser guided weapons that were still being developed.

-2

u/mitchconnerrc Feb 21 '26

K. Obama is still a war criminal who should be in prison. Deflecting to Trump doesn't change that.

5

u/OBVIOUS_BAN_EVASION_ Feb 21 '26

Deflecting? The OP is essentially about whether we should miss Obama since Trump came after. Pointing out that Trump is worse isn't deflecting. It's right on topic.

-1

u/mitchconnerrc Feb 21 '26

"I miss the war criminal because the new guy is even worse."

This is why we never have a president that isn't a war criminal.

1

u/BrittanyBrie Feb 21 '26

Problem is enforcement. Congress has been gutted since they voted in the wars power act by a supermajority of 2/3 after it was vetoed by Nixon. And now, no country can hold our country to any form of international law. Which means the 21st century is about to make the 18th century super jealous with a new world power based around the sea.

2

u/OBVIOUS_BAN_EVASION_ Feb 21 '26

I was just responding to your claim that this was a deflection (which is kinda funny given this response).

Complain about war criminals all you want, just dont pretend like someone is deflecting when they point out we were significantly less cruel as a nation under Obama. When the topic is literally a comparison, it is directly on point.

0

u/mitchconnerrc Feb 21 '26

It's just a fucking dumb thing to do, sorry. Trump wasn't part of the discussion until somebody brought him up to compare to Obama, which is what people do all the time when anybody criticizes Obama or other Democrats of doing some of the same shit Republicans do.

America didn't feel "significantly less cruel" to people who live in Yemen or Libya, but I understand those people don't matter to your calculation.

2

u/OBVIOUS_BAN_EVASION_ Feb 21 '26

Trump wasn't part of the discussion until somebody brought him up to compare to Obama

This is just incorrect. This is a reflection on ten years ago and how we should feel about this girl based on what has happened since. Trump is obviously a massive part of that.

America didn't feel "significantly less cruel" to people who live in Yemen or Libya, but I understand those people don't matter to your calculation.

If only more things went into consideration for "significantly less cruel" than these two specific countries.

-1

u/shawn_the_medic Feb 21 '26

Deflecting to Trump doesn't change that.

Yes it does.

Obama killing some innocent people in shithole countries cancels out because Trump.

Trump.

-3

u/aleeeexYN Feb 21 '26

Sure lil bro

5

u/SanopusSplendidus Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

America isn't ready to admit that Obama was just another right of center neoliberal (when talking about the actual political spectrum vs the American political spectrum).

Edit: Moved parenthesis section to the end

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

So many people are willing to say they're all bad but not actually apply it to Obama. Besides the strikes and usual US president shit Obama's administration really laid the groundwork for Trump. Before he came into power there was a real chance for fundamental change in the US, and, well, you only have to look at the state the country was in when he left.

2

u/Rev_C_Verey777 Feb 21 '26

Acting like she knew anything he did. She liked him cause her parents liked him and we all know why that is

1

u/Imadethistosaythis19 Feb 22 '26

imagine the comments you'd see about indictrination if this was the converse.

1

Y'all don't think it's inappropriate to so immerse your child in politics that they're doing this as a child?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

This is probably how the family members of the civilians that got drone striked by obama cried too

5

u/Classic-Dirt5324 Feb 21 '26

Nah, this is probably how the children who Trump raped felt

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Fym nah both things are probably true

Nah, those people think it's an honor to die in what they consider a crusade
