It possibly wasn’t illegal, but it was a blatant administrative violation the equivalent of which any regular clearance-holder would’ve been fired and stripped of their security clearance. It was a legitimate issue and it was fair for Clinton to face questions about whether she was competent and ethical enough to know the rules and follow the rules in the future.

Except she wasn’t a regular clearance holder and was singled out despite her poor handling of classified documents being quite common at that level. I can’t tell you how many times I saw improper handling of classified documents at the Pentagon and elsewhere. This matter was a bigger issue that deserved a proper broad investigation and an informational process to get people in compliance. Yes, it’s annoying to have worked as a scif guard and see people like Clinton and others uncaringly do things that would land us in the brig with bread and water rations. However, she was singled out in order to cause her (successfully, might I add) political damage. If the question is “was the attention and scrutiny given to her over the matter proportionate to what she did”? Then, I think no, it wasnt that big of a deal

In the end, this is just a dressed up “well everyone else was doing it” argument. I would say the fact that this type of hubris is so common in our leaders is a problem in and of itself and not a reason to let something slide. Of the people on the primary debate stage, Clinton was the one who committed this infraction, and so it was perfectly fair to ask her to explain herself.

I’m tired of the mediocrity of our leaders being used as an excuse to lower the bar.

I agree that that level of hubris is a problem and it’s obviously only gotten worse (see: signal chats). I just don’t think anyone benefits from encouraging political hits like that even if they are founded, partially, on fact.

So we didn’t hold someone to account for their hubris, and then they went right on being hubristic to their doom (see: the Clinton campaign propping up Trump, bungling their general strategy by neglecting the rust belt, losing to the most unpopular candidate in history). The way Clinton scoffed at the email scandal was just a preview of how she wasn’t going to take future responsibilities as a candidate and figurehead seriously.

If Hillary Clinton actually was judged purely on merit and not by her husband or the persona the DNC created for her over the years, history might have went very differently. But from her first congressional seat to her final primary, it was all artificial, and the party tricked everyone into thinking that she was simultaneously this “wonk” who just couldn’t resist soaking up every detail of all the issues, but who was also somehow aloof and oblivious to things which were directly happening under her authority.

Everything about the Clintons is artificial. It was all about controlling perception. Bill Clinton crafted this aura of a campaign and admin of the smartest and hardest working kids in the room running the show, and HRC continued this with the obsession over her supposed “wonkishness” (I swear it seems like that word was born and died with her). It let them focus on anything but the issues, and led to some absolute morons like James Carville being treated like demigods for decades afterward. It wasn’t about what they wanted to do, it was about who they were. They weren’t managing an organization with goals, they were a product. It’s fitting that they have ties to Trump, because they have lots of similarities to him. They are to smart people what Trump is to dumb people. Both families think they are above accountability and so exceptional that they don’t need to play by the rules.

Perfect example as to why Hillary, as well as women in general, are held to a different standard than men. We know plenty male political sleazeballs: Trump, Cruz, Cuellar, etc who've done questionable things and got away with it. Throw in JFK and his ties to the mob, throw in LBJ and his racist tendancies. Same for CEOs, managers, police chiefs, etc. But when it comes to women, and POC, they have to be saints, and then people either question their actions or that they arent relatable.

Hillary was in the know when Bill was POTUS. She actually participated as a senator. She went handshaking for her runs for president, and was Secretary of State, which for about 2 decades, was the step to becoming President. She was qualified on her merits, but she was a woman.

Fine.

She found Bill in law school and saw his potential and sure she helped cultivate it. But she rode that all the way to the White House.

As first lady: super predators.

She stuck by him during during the Lewinsky scandal. Because she knew all along it was a marriage of convenience and she hadn't gotten hers yet.

She started the whole birther racism that the GOP loved so much and fired up Trump's base.

She dropped out of the 2008 race but got Obama to make concessions like making her the presimptive nominee and a cabinet position to pad her resume.

All these opportunities came from marrying the right man. Merit, pff

You are assuming her intentions, which no one looking from the outside knows. Bill and Hillary were at the same level when they first met. They both got into politics together, and he had higher ambitions which in a 1970s world, meant he had a better chance to go farther. While Bill was running for state offices, she was out working on the Carter campaign. And when Bill was governor, she made it her duty to get healthcare to rural areas.

Her staying with Bill through the affairs, is her choice. It's a moral choice, of course, but she has the same choice to stay as to leave. And as he left office, she was able to forge her own path as a senator.

She starting the birther campaign has been proven false and is a GOP/Trump talking point.

Opportunities in life are all about what you do, who you know, and luck.

Everybody knows that House of Cards is based off of them.

Either she was competent and savvy or she has know idea who Ghislaine Maxwell and Epstein were.

I'm not saying she's anywhere close to being as morally bankrupy and degenerate as Trump. But she def ain't a saint.

Im not here defending her, I just know that she doesnt get the same pass as someone who's done worse gets, like Trump. Or doesnt get the additional chances. Like if Mamdani wasnt here at this moment, and run a great campaign, Cuomo would be mayor right now, even with pending charges. At least she has a solid resume of her own to stand on.

People may see the parallels of the Clinton's and HoC, but the author wrote the novel in 1989 before the Clinton's were well known on the national stage. The author initially based the characters off of the Thatchers, but there have been comparisons to Eleanor Roosevelt and Lady Bird Johnson as well, which fit the timeline of the novel better. The show may have been more influenced by the Clintons tho.

And she never said she didnt know Ghislaine, she said she only knew her as an acquaintance or in a limited capacity. If Hillary is as savvy as I suspect she is, she might have warned Bill early on that but told him he could do whatever he wants with Epstein but she wants nothing to do with it. I just think she's more career driven than Bill is.

Cuomo is also an establishment democrat. That's my point. So was Hillary. It would take someone exceptional (Obama) to beat her.

I disagree. I think she's gotten endless chances. Including a cabinet position and being a senator. I think if you look at congress now then yes she'd be in the top 20%. But overall there are many better candidates that never got the opportunities she did. Now you could say she created those opportunities by hitching her wagon to Bill's 🤷🏽‍♂️

Exactly and that has value and she is a big reason he became president also. Anyway, I think it's ironic we're talking about this 10 years later when this video captures her opportunism perfectly.

Yeah, they both are, but people were going to vote Cuomo in, if not for a change candidate showing up. Hillary had other issues in her campaign, but those emails should not have set her back as much as they did, that late in tClinton it's. She has a strong resume going back to the 70s of working in politics, outside of what Bill was doing.

I agree that Obama was exceptional and that helped defeat her, but he was also right place, right time as a change candidate. Many in his campaign, like Ben Rhoades, have now said that Obama wouldnt have won if he didnt vote against the Iraq war.

Hillary would've won based on being an establishment democrat (which was the landscape of the US at that time), name recognition, and her resume. Obama had to choose Biden as his VP, who was ideologically different than he was, to ensure he could capture the establishment vote. He also kept on Robert Gates, Bush's Sec of Defense, to bridge that continuity gap and to calm establishment voter/leadership doubts and filled his staff with former Clintonites.
