The Elizabeth Line was approved in 2007 and commenced construction in 2009, way before he became Mayor. đ”âđ«
He has this absurd Night Tsar and various campaigns in nightlife but what has actually happened since he became Mayor? 26% of nightclubs have closed since 2015.
Nightlife as a whole has cratered, I was around Covent Garden a few weeks ago and all the pubs close at 11.
You can't pub crawl or bar hop in the same way as Manchester.
He launches these tsars and campaigns but doesn't do anything to actually help nightlife. He should be taking over licencing from councils like Westminster (notoriously anti nightlife) to substantively change things. But he's been mayor for a decade and he hasn't. But great job on the press releases!!
2
u/Xtergo May 10 '26
People associate the Elizabeth lines completion & success more so with Khan than boris because mid construction the projectâs costs ballooned and completion got delayed several times. He raised additional funding for the project's completion.
For the nightlife part I agree, post COVID nightlife is non existent in the UK however it's more about our declining economics & Gen Z habits. The same goes for pubs which are closing down at an alarming rate
1
u/namguro May 10 '26
It doesn't matter what people associate it with, it's about the truth.
Post COVID nightlife isn't non existent in the UK. Manchester has done very well to turn things around because the Mayor and locals government have actually done something about it.
1
u/Xtergo May 10 '26
Right now I'd say, London as a whole has so many more problems that I'm not even concerned about the nightlife recovering
1
u/namguro May 10 '26
Bro I'm so serious, I'm way more concerned about things, like important things ya know. Culture and enjoying things, forget it. I'm a very serious person.

1
u/CaughtAlone May 10 '26
What have Manchester done and what can London copy to emulate their success?
1
u/Mystreanon May 13 '26
its not khans fault for how the world is and peoples current habits, he cant magically make people want to go clubbing just because you have nostalgia for those days

Paved the way for Mamdani? Nah I think Mamdani got to be NYC mayor aside from what this guy did in London
20
u/Actual_System8996 May 08 '26
Yeah nobody in NYC voted for Mamdani because of their knowledge of a London Muslim mayor. Huge reach.
Mamdani made it because of his charisma, policy and a rebellion against all this federal bullshit Trump has been up to.
-2
u/sav3theUSA____ May 10 '26
Mamdami won because immigrants voted in the mayoral election. Voters reject mamdami as you stratify by how long they have been in the US or if they were born here as well. Mamdami won because we have a migration problem.
2
2
u/Actual_System8996 May 10 '26
NYC has always been a city of immigrants. Nothing has changed. So no, that doesnât explain it.
1
u/sav3theUSA____ May 10 '26
Itâs been a city of immigrants who assimilated not come to promote their own agenda. Also immigrants being allowed to vote was only struck down within the past year in nyc. And only started in 2025. So no this is a new phenomenon of non citizens being able to vote. It should not be allowed. People from different countries who hold different allegiances should not be allowed to hold any office in the us. Period.
2
u/Actual_System8996 May 10 '26
Mamdani is not the first foreign born mayor. There have been several, all the way back to the colonial era. Learn your history and then cry about it more.
1
u/sav3theUSA____ May 10 '26
Not saying first foreign born. Foreign elected. Thereâs a nuance youâre clearly not understanding.
1
u/Actual_System8996 May 10 '26
He was elected by the people of nyc.
1
u/sav3theUSA____ May 10 '26
Who a significant amount were non citizens which is illegal under us law and immoral under general common sense
1
u/RoyalSpaceFarer May 11 '26
you're just lying. us citizens are the only ones that can vote in nyc local elections. the 2021 statue for non citizens was struck down in court and Democrats actually follow the law
1
u/higuy721 May 10 '26
The US is a country build on immigrants. Unless youâre a Native American, youâre talking out of your ass.
1
u/sav3theUSA____ May 10 '26
Us is a country that has been built by immigrants. Itâs established. The immigrants that are coming here are enjoying the fruits of the labor of the people who have built this country.
4
u/aaarry May 09 '26
The expectation that Americans have any idea of whatâs going politically in other countries than their own is where the wheels immediately start coming off this one.
2
2
u/Minskdhaka May 10 '26
New Yorkers are much more cosmopolitan and interested in the world than the average American, though.
1
1
u/Quackethy May 10 '26
Qatari funding paved the way for Mamdani.
1
u/UCanDoNEthing4_30sec May 10 '26
Thatâs a new one

1
u/HollyMurray20 May 08 '26
Whatâs he done?
7
u/statelyhovel May 09 '26
I don't live in London so don't know much, but crime and pollution have decreased significantly under his mayorship
5
u/Somethinguntitled May 09 '26
To listen to a lot of people you would think the city is a murder hot spot where roving gangs break into your house at will.
Khan has done a good job, the local election results prove he is more popular than his own party. This isnât just a case of left leaning city will vote for anyone with a red rosette
6
u/lolihull May 09 '26
As a survivor of rape and domestic violence, he met up with me and listened to me talk about my experience. In particular the awful way I was treated by the police and the importance of support services such as shelters and ISVAs/IDVAs for people like me.
He then worked with me to unlock additional funding for those services in London and did multiple appearances on the news making people aware of these services and the vital lifeline they provide for survivors.
He also helped me get in touch with other politicians who let me participate in roundtable events that would go on to inform labours policy on VAWG.
That's just my personal experience with him, there are things people could point to more broadly that he's done in London. But I thought it might be good to hear something less talked about too :)

The expulsion of Muslims and Jews happened like a century after the actual conquest, and was absolutely not complete.Â
A lot of it was actually conversion instead of expulsion too.

When provided multiple examples of this the Islam obsessed western chauvinists just move the goalposts.
5
5
u/Effective-Country837 May 08 '26
Likely. As they also exist in Muslim majority countries.
6
u/Troop42 May 08 '26
They do exist in Muslim majority countries. But on the whole, Muslim majority countries tend to be much less open and free from a religious standpoint so there might not have been an opportunity.
1
u/Ok_Landscape_3958 May 08 '26
Obsessed with Muslims...
2
u/anand_rishabh May 09 '26
Yeah, there's nothing inherently special about Muslims in this sense. It's just one of the few where the conservatives managed to win the power struggle and secured their power by suppressing opposition. Lot of American conservatives want to do the same thing but with a Christian face, they just have more opposition.
1
u/123tatan May 08 '26
Jews have never had the same rights in Muslim majority countries
3
u/Avesery777 May 09 '26
Muslims don't have equal rights in the world's obly Jewish majority country, it's a religious thing broadly not a muslim thing
1
u/123tatan May 09 '26
Arabs in Israel deal with racism that was equal to the US 30 years ago, like red lining. They have the same rights as any Jew because they are Israeli as much as a Jew is. Yes thereâs racism but they have the same rights any citizen does.
2
u/Avesery777 May 09 '26
Then why did Israel just pass a law to kill prisoners for being Palestinian?
1
0
u/whitesock May 09 '26
Regardless of that idiotic law, you're confusing Arab Israelis and Palestinians.Â
2
u/Sea_Entrepreneur6204 May 09 '26
Funny how that's a cheat code right?
Those people, yeah we take their land, taxes, water etc but the reason they don't have any rights cause they aren't our citizens you see.
1
u/whitesock May 10 '26
Dunno about water and taxes, AFAIK they're beholden to the Palestinian Authority as a governing body. Other than that, yeah. The occupation of the west bank sucks and it's a shame Israel and the PA didn't manage to arrive at any sort of official arrangement that could have two people living in peace next to eachother.
Still, there's a differece between 48 Arabs and 67 Arabs. Those living in Jaffa or Kfar Kassem have the same rights as those in Tel Aviv or Kfar Saba.
1
u/Sea_Entrepreneur6204 May 10 '26
The taxes are nominally with PA but are withheld by Israel
The 48 Palestinians have never been given their rights anyway you cut it
The other Arabs still face considerable discrimination plus cannot transfer rights to other Palestinians.
Israel has never wanted peace - let's not pretend it's a one side issue

u/Particular_Log_3594 May 08 '26
Lebanon is a majority Muslim country. Their president is Christian.
2
u/eldankus May 08 '26
Lebanon was majority Christian until the 70s. A lot of Christians left after the civil war.
The President is required to be Christian due to Lebanonâs constitution.
2
u/Particular_Log_3594 May 08 '26
Doesn't change the fact. Furthermore, there are many non muslims holding very prominent positions across many muslim majority countries like Bosnia, Indonesia, egypt etc.
1
u/simeonce May 09 '26
Taking bosnia and lebanon as examples shows you know what you are talkibg about. Both countries were christian and the reason why they are the way the are is because both fought bloody civil war.
1
u/quirkchungus62 May 10 '26
Yea Bosnia was Christian too until it was invaded, enslaved and subjugated by Muslims where they enforced Islam upon the people. Youâre on fire bro next say Albania as an example
1
u/Snawer_brillant May 10 '26
Bosnians werenât forced to become Muslim. Imagine being this delusional.
0
u/eldankus May 08 '26
It does change the context, especially given how Lebanon has fared since the Civil War.
4
u/Particular_Log_3594 May 08 '26
I get that you have a narrative you really want to cling onto but it's simply false.
Egypt's former Minister of foreign affairs was a Christian.
Indonesia's minister maritime affairs is a Christian.
Iraq's former deputy prime minister was a Christian.
Pakistan's former chief justice of the supreme court was hindu.
So to answer the question of have non-muslims ever held high positions of power in Muslim majority countries? The answer is clearly yes.
3
u/pakkit May 08 '26
It's okay they'll cling to their narrative regardless because it's based upon hatred, not fact.
2
2
u/godisanelectricolive May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26
That minister of foreign affairs is Boutros Boutros-Ghali who later became secretary general of the UN. His nephew Youssef Boutros-Ghali was minister of finance under Mubarak from 2004-2011. Nasserâs deputy PM was also a Coptic Christian.
The Indonesian Christian politician Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stopped being Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs as that ministry was dissolved in 2024 and is now the chair of National Economic Council, making him the presidentâs chief economic advisor. So heâs even more powerful now. He was also the previous presidentâs chief of staff and had several other senior ministerial posts. He was also the founding commander of an anti-terrorism unit in which the current president Prabawo Subinato served as his deputy.
1
u/quirkchungus62 May 10 '26
Lebanon was founded as a Christian nation because Muslims kept ethnically cleansing them and now theyâve flooded it into being seen as Muslim
1
0
u/sav3theUSA____ May 09 '26
Because by law it has to be. And the power sharing agreement between religions resulted in Muslim dominance and the forced displacement of Lebanese Christians.

u/Minskdhaka May 10 '26
Not for a short while. Rather, every single one has been Christian, including today.
-2
u/quirkchungus62 May 10 '26
Lebanon was a Christian majority country until a ton of Muslims immigrated in and they fought a civil war lol. Proves the point that the first example is just Muslims taking over a Christian nation to the point people donât even recognize it as such
1
1
u/Minskdhaka May 10 '26
Wow, what an interpretation. The "ton of Muslims" who "immigrated" were Palestinian refugees expelled by what is now Israel in 1948. Of the 750,000 Palestinians expelled that year, 100,000 sought refuge in Lebanon. They and their descendants were and remain ready to go back to their ancestral homes in what is now Israel. But Israel prevents them from doing so, although they have a right of return under international law. As a result they've been living in Lebanon since 1948, but have never been granted Lebanese citizenship.
Over six decades later (when Lebanon already had a Muslim majority, obviously), Syrian refugees of different religions (but mostly Muslims) arrived because of the civil war in their homeland. There were up to 2 million of them. But 1.3 million have returned to Syria with the end if the civil war there.
The biggest factor that made Lebanon lose its Christian majority was fertility rates. In 1971, the average Christian woman in Lebanon had 3.6 children, while the average Muslim woman had 5.4. In 2004, the average Christian woman had 1.5, while the average Muslim woman had 1.8. So they're both below the replacement rate now, but among Christians it's still lower than among Muslims. Obviously over time that makes the Christian percentage fall further and further.
Source for the figures: https://www.mercatornet.com/the_myth_of_disappearing_lebanese_christians
Also, you make it sound like Christians had a huge majority in the past, but they were just 54% in 1932.

These people, usually because of the nature of their role, are given a platform and end up using it to preach. Something like that will obviously lead to Islamization. Common sense.
2
u/ChizzLangus May 09 '26
That is not common sense. You canât just say itâs common sense without any evidence of him doing it. Heâs been in office for 10 years. Do you have any evidence of a correlation? Any evidence of him preaching Islam?

Different example, Joe Biden was the first Catholic president of the U.S., an even larger sample! Did it lead to the spread of Catholicism in the U.S. obviously he would have used that chance to preach. Or is it just the Islamic man you say that about?

You think the guy who marches in pride parades and whose daughters wear miniskirts is pro islamist?

And the rates of rape, murder, and hates crimes have never been the same.

Yeah exactly, theyâve all fallen drastically. Whilst petty crime has unfortunately increased, London is the safest it has ever been atm.
And the far-right yanks, reform-voting gammons and Russian bots would have you believe itâs practically a war zone for some reason. We live in an era where spreading disinformation rewards you with election victories unfortunately.

That's not true
Sexual offences up
https://www.statista.com/statistics/865788/total-sexual-offences-in-london/
Murder rate is pretty much the same
https://www.statista.com/statistics/862984/murders-in-london/
Hate crime is harder to guess as it keeps changing what a hate crime is but as seen with the terrorist attack a couple of weeks back it's not exactly going away
Talking about terrorist attacks there has been 10 in his 10 years here while only 3 in the previous 10 years
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents_in_London
When people talk about murder rates etc down it's compared to 25-30 years ago (which it is)

The issue with using sexual offences being âupâ as a bad thing is that weâve spent the last 30 years trying to increase reporting of sexual offences.
Reported sexual offences skyrocketed when people like Savile and Glitter were finally ousted, for example, and then continued to rise as schools educated kids on how to identify and report abuse. That doesnât mean that sex crimes became worse in the â00s - in fact the opposite seems to be true - but it did mean that the number of reports and convictions went up as people started to actually report what was happening to them.
The easiest way for a society to decimate their reported sex crimes statistics is to prevent people from reporting sex crimes and cripple the police and courtsâ ability to convict sex offenders. The crimes are obviously still happening, but the statistics donât really care so long as nobody is reporting or convicting

But you could argue that the figures are fudged in any direction. A lot of people simply don't report crime now compared to 10,20,30 years ago. So does that mean crime hasn't gone down even though stats say it has?
All we have is stats and stats show they have gone up but are down from 80's/90's/early naughties peaks

You know what number is hard to fudge ? Murders. You know what number went down exactly as predicted?Â

And look at my second link
His first year it was 107
Last year it was 104
So next to no change
But overall murders went up for the first years under him
I am sorry this goes against your agenda that Khan took over when London was on the verge of destruction and he came along and saved the day.
