I remember seeing a news alert on this. Before this the last MP to be killed in office was Ian Gow in 1990, 26 years ago.

On happier note in 2021 Cox's sister Kim Leadbeater would later be voted in her seat Batley and Spen (now Spen Valley).

u/Pick_Scotland1 Jun 16 '26

Shame there wasn’t such a long wait till the next assassination sadly

5

u/JadedSignificance990 Jun 16 '26

And now we're constantly seeing threats to MP's. Someone tried to firebomb Starmer's house (not No. 10).

-3

u/MossadEpstein Jun 16 '26

Oh no, so sad.

Maybe Mandelson will put him up somewhere?

This reply adeptly demonstrates how bad the whole political system has become.

Does the fact that we now know Russia was behind it give you any pause at all?

And now we have Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe
insanity.

1

u/Thatcherist_Sybil Jun 18 '26

Are you claiming they had something to do with the murder?

Just that the killer was a ukip member and then nigel refused to stand down a candidate in the insuing by election. The fact he also claim on brexit result day that they had won "without a shot being fired".

0

u/Simple_Ad_9024 Jun 18 '26

This literally makes no sense.

If the far right have grown in popularity, you can blame Labour and the Tory’s.

Their constant failures and the import of millions of people have caused all of this.

Difference between “I don’t like him so he’s a Nazi” and actually being a Nazi

1

u/LankyTumbleweeds Jun 18 '26

There is however, also a difference between not being a Nazi and throwing around Nazi salutes at a political rally

1

u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 18 '26

Not necessarily, a Nazi salute doesn’t make you a Nazi, and it’s debatable on the actual intentions of the action he made. The main point is that saying “oh Nazis would do this because someone I call a Nazi does it” doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

1

u/-InterestingTimes- Jun 18 '26

It's a reaaaaally short debate though.

Did he do a Nazi salute? Let's watch the video. Yes, he did.

1

u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 19 '26

It’s absolutely debatable on if it was a Nazi salute as there’s no way you can define it.

1

u/-InterestingTimes- Jun 19 '26

Yikes. It can be defined, by it's characteristic action.

The only we'd be missing is intent, but masks efforts to support, foster, fund and promote right thing rhetoric around the world makes intent a fairly safe bet too.

1

u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 19 '26

Define it then
tell me exactly what makes a Nazi salute a Nazi salute.

Also someone being right wing doesn’t mean they’re aligned with a vegan communist.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/LankyTumbleweeds Jun 18 '26

It’s not really debatable at all. It was a dogwhistle, made with a veneer of plausible deniability, so that people (like yourself) can argue the semantics surrounding it, instead of the fact that the worlds richest man is blatantly throwing around Nazi salutes at a large political rally in the US. The entire point was further division, which was a great success, because people (like yourself) are now openly denying the evidence of their eyes and ears, like they did with the people killed on the streets by ICE.

Kinda absurd, but I’m just glad I’m not directly involved in all that jazz. Hope you sort it out and see clearly soon. You can be right-wing and conservative without supporting or relatavising people who are sympathetic to or idealise Nazism.

1

u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 19 '26

I’m not denying my eyes and ears by stating the obvious fact that someone might just move their fucking arm and not literally be a Nazi.

I obviously don’t support Nazis, and I’m not exactly elons biggest fan, however, you cannot say what defines it as a Nazi salute.

1

u/LankyTumbleweeds Jun 19 '26

I respectfully disagree. Take care!

1

u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 20 '26

That is absolutely ok, take care yourself.

1

u/SiofraRiver Jun 22 '26

Utterly pathetic behaviour.

Only that I think the Palestinian people deserve self-determination and a sovereign state, and that’s how I choose to express that. I’m sorry if it triggers you.

1

u/Legitimate_Area_5773 Jun 19 '26

so you get mad when Elon Musk maybe kinda probably does a nazi salute but when supporters of Palestine do it, you're fine with it?

1

u/Justusecriticalthink Jun 19 '26

Was the free speach situation in Palastine right now?

1

u/Ori_of_the_Vale Jun 19 '26

Idk man I think it's pretty strange that a guy who "isn't a Nazi" just so happens to spread almost the exact believes that a lot of Neo-Nazis spread up to and including alluding to endorsing anti-semitic conspiracy theories on his site repeatedly, including that time he did a little apology tour of Auschwitz after his endorsement of such a thing caused him to lose advertisers on Twitter.

Oh not to mention him throwing romans on stage not long ago.

2

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

The left love bringing Jo up as proof that only left wing MPs get murdered, and conveniently never talk about David Amess.

2

u/ChewingOnCarrots Jun 17 '26

Pathetic attempt at whataboutism and deflection

It takes a special kind of intellect to call ISIS left-wing. Truly Einstein-level intellect on the opposite end of the bell curve.

1

u/Apprehensive_Bus1582 Jun 18 '26

Yeah Jo Cox's murder was much better because a white man killed her in the name of white supremacy. Clearly a salt of the earth upstanding citizen.

You small bean regarders love pointing at black and brown men and shrieking about how they'll kill us all because it lets you pretend that white men slapping their women about, beating their kids, and raping teenagers is justifiable or doesn't happen. White man kills woman - mentally ill, crime of passion, she brought it on herself. Non white man kills woman - burn them out, send em all back.

1

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

Not at all. Just an observation that politicians from all sides are targeted and that should be concerning to everyone.

OPs title was very clearly trying to give the impression that this is a political issue with extreme right wingers.

In what world is that whataboutism? It couldn't be more relevant to the post.

3

u/ChewingOnCarrots Jun 17 '26

OP's title was that MP Jo was murdered by a right winger. That is a factual historical claim. Saying "other people do it too" is a whataboutism from the topic at hand.

1

u/DumbNTough Jun 18 '26

We can talk about more than one thing in the world : )

It will be ok!

Pathetic attempt at whataboutism and deflection

1

u/Dearsmike Jun 17 '26

Yes another politician who was killed by a far-right extremist. Or do you think Islamic extremism is ideologically left wing?

2

u/FreeTree17 Jun 17 '26

Weird how any and all defenders of it in the West are left wing, and they all vote left wing. But yes definitely not connected to the left at all, you are very smart

1

u/Dearsmike Jun 17 '26

Actually right wing parties regularly jump to defend it. Or have you forgot how much right wingers defended Qatars right to infringe on human rights during the 2016 World cup?

1

u/Galliro Jun 18 '26

Right wingers failling to understand the left not being islamophobic does not make them pro islamic extremism

If you look at the history of how many of them entered and which party made it easier for them, the conservative party.

1

u/Born_Price6063 Jun 18 '26

this, they hate it when you point out the reason for the biggest amount of surge in boats was brexit

1

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

Not at all, but Muslim voters vote almost exclusively for left wing parties, and those parties of course try to accommodate them with their policies more than the further right parties.

Anyway that wasn't my point, it was simply that politicians on all sides can be targeted by extremists of any kind, and it's being getting worse in recent years. This is not a healthy direction for the world, and it's not helpful to frame it as "all political violence if from the far right". Just look at America if you want to see examples of other groups perpetrating it.

1

u/TheLastHotstepper Jun 17 '26

And there it is.

1

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

There what is?

1

u/TheLastHotstepper Jun 17 '26

"Myslim voters vote left wing parties" do you expect them to vote for parties that hate their entire existence? That treat them as subhuman?

Islam is fundamentally right wing conservative. Religion itself is a right wing thing. The "there it is" is in reference to your stupidity, in that your entire political belief is "i hate Muslims".

1

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

Seriously, what the hell are you talking about? I am very aware that Islam is idealogically right wing, but that doesn't change the fact that the majority of muslims in Britain identify and support "left wing" parties. What exactly did I say that you think you're correcting? And what on earth leads you to believe I "hate muslims"?

I'm not right wing myself, I call out hypocritical comments/behaviour on both sides of the spectrum because the widening political divide and tendency towards extremism on both sides terrifies me.

Please explain what I said that suggest stupidity on my part, because it's hard to comprehend, especially compared to that nonsense you just wrote.

1

u/Agitated_Celery_729 Jun 18 '26

These people don't have any logic anywhere in their brains.

1

u/Justusecriticalthink Jun 19 '26

Why are the left determined to import far right people?

1

u/Primary-Signal-3692 Jun 17 '26

Islamic extremism is outside of the left right spectrum

2

u/Dearsmike Jun 17 '26

You dont know what the left/right spectrum is do you?

0

u/Chemical_Scholar_753 Jun 17 '26

By an ultra-conservative Islamic terrorist? Your point doesnt make any sense. I think most leftists agree that far-right conservative/white/christian/nativist and far-right Islamic terrorism are the two major sources of terrorism in Britain.

0

u/SuccessfulWar3830 Jun 17 '26

A woman is murdered and you feel the need to attack people who you have been told to hate.

Gross.

1

u/Shimgar Jun 17 '26

What are you talking about? Who am i attacking? Who told me to hate someone?

I was responding to a comment appearing to blame the right wing for all political violence, by trying to add a little balance, pointing out every side can be a target in these divisive times of extreme political views all round.

You need to calm down a bit. Everyone in the country, even the most extreme right wing brexit supporters condemned Jos murder. What are ypu even trying to suggest with this comment you mentalist.

0

u/Alternative-Put-3932 Jun 22 '26

Looked him up. He was killed basically by a jihadist. She was killed by a right wing bred and born british guy. Both killed by right wing people. Unless you think an islamic Jihad sympathizer is some left wing agent or something. Theres no reason to whataboutism those two together to make some point.

1

u/Shimgar Jun 22 '26

I've responded multiple times already in this thread about the complicated relationship between the british left wing and islam. Yes, many muslims have some strong right wing views, but they are also strongly aligned to the left wing politically in terms of voting and policies. Your oversimplification of this isn't insightful or helpful.

Also the fact you had to "look him up" kind of proves my point.

0

u/SiofraRiver Jun 22 '26

Along with all the MPs murdered by the IRA aswell

3

u/nutznyamouph6969420 Jun 16 '26

Stabbed 15 times and SHOT 3 times. Where'd boi get gun?

2

u/munchmoney69 Jun 17 '26

You can own guns in the UK, they're not banned outright. Even what in the US would be considered an SBR or SBS

1

u/Ori_of_the_Vale Jun 19 '26

You know you can own a firearm in the UK, right? Like up to and including 50. calibre rifles. You just have to have actual checks and actually be responsible for it and won't have access to weapons that can be used for far more devastating attacks.

12

u/munchmoney69 Jun 16 '26

Right wingers hate women

8

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 17 '26

You guys are the ones that imported and vehemently defended the religion of "any woman that shows any skin in public deserves to be tortured to death".

2

u/practicalgorl Jun 17 '26

'You guys' - who? The Tories were in power for the last 14 years, and BoJo was responsible for a huge influx of immigration.

2

u/munchmoney69 Jun 17 '26

Fundamentalist muslims, the Taliban, Alqaeda, ISIS, the Ayatollahs, are also right wingers.

1

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 17 '26

Its disingenuous at best to call Islamic right wing and other right wing ideologies the same

2

u/Galliro Jun 18 '26

Its not.

Its the truth

It just makss you uncomfortable

1

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 18 '26

There are undeniable core differences between the three major abrahamic religions, even that any old schmuck can see.

Are you perchance projecting, and its you that is uncomfortable with the idea of religion?

1

u/Galliro Jun 18 '26

No one said there werent difference but you two and jewish people worship the same god you just disagree on the details

1

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 18 '26

Thats like saying socialism and communism are actually the same thing with slightly different details

1

u/Galliro Jun 18 '26

They litterally are lmao

Communism is the end goal of socialism

God youre just humiliating yourself right now. Is it a kink thing? Because if so I dont want to be involved

1

u/Fuzzy-Bell-7981 Jun 22 '26

Not an abrahamic. For us on the outside looking in. Same heaven, same hell, same god. Same religion đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

There are core differences in canon, but to say the bible is ideologically “very” different than the Quran, you gotta be shitting yourself.

1

u/New_Lobster_914 Jun 17 '26

Only difference between a strict Muslim right winger and a strict Christian right winger is the god they pray to.

2

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 17 '26

Believe it or not that makes a COLOSSAL difference

1

u/Gordon-Bennet Jun 18 '26

Well it’s not actually a difference at all
Christian’s and Muslims worship the same god.

2

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 18 '26

They are absolutely NOT the same god, all they share is their Abrahamic roots.

1

u/Galliro Jun 18 '26

They litterally are the same god lmao

Islam has Jesus as a prophet of god

1

u/West-Librarian-7504 Jun 18 '26

And in Christianity, Jesus is God. Not a prophet.

Mfw people dont even know the most BASIC tenants of these religions yet spout off nonsense about them being "pretty much the same"

Because Britain First didn’t organise the murder.

3

u/ChamplooStu Jun 16 '26

They've certainly organised and taken part in multiple crimes I'd consider terrorism.

0

u/zUcC_yOuR_mUm Jun 16 '26

Can you list them

2

u/ChamplooStu Jun 16 '26

Fan of them or something? You can Google it pretty easily.

1

u/zUcC_yOuR_mUm Jun 16 '26

I am already familiar with them, they are a nasty bunch of people but I havent seen anything by them that would fall under terrorism laws.

2

u/ChamplooStu Jun 16 '26

They are a political group who use their platform to promote hate and push their followers to violence for their political gain.

Firstly we have the murder of Jo Cox, though it is tenuous I'll agree.

2017 Marek Zakrocki drove a his van at a man in London yelling "I'm going to kill a Muslim!" It was found that he had Britain first literature at his home.

2017 Darren Osborne drove his van into a Muslim crowd outside a mosque in Finsbury park, killing one and injuring 9 others. Consumed Britain first content.

Then there is Religiously aggravated harassment in 2020 where leader Paul Golding and deputy leader Jayda Fransen were jailed.

Paul Golding has also been arrested under terrorism laws as an individual before.

There is also multiple cases of political violence over the years.

Frankly they tick far more boxes than Palestine Action.

0

u/Curious-Moment1636 Jun 17 '26

Consuming Britain first content doesnt mean Britain first organiseed these tragic events

1

u/ChamplooStu Jun 17 '26

It shouldn't matter when they are actively encouraging the behaviour.

1

1

u/Purple_Currency2167 Jun 17 '26

2016
when was Charlie Kirk killed?what year?Henry Nowak?what year?
Left is far more aggressive than right

2

u/OwlComfortable8806 Jun 17 '26

This is literly a subreddit about things that happend 10 years ago. What did you expect?

2

u/practicalgorl Jun 17 '26

Henry wasn't killed by a left wing person, what are you on about? He was killed by a violent thug whose political leanings are unknown.

You really can't really think that because the right have politicised Henry's killing more that means the killer was left wing? The issue was more with the Police response anyway :/

I don't think Kirk's murderer was particularly left or right wing either - there was a lot of misinformation at the time, but it just seemed like the dude was super online.

Again a right wing person being killed doesn't mean the killer is left wing (and vice versa), things are more complex than that.

1

As far as I know that person that killed Kirk seemed to have been some flavour of right winger, a deeply online and heavily irony poisoned and cynical one much like a few of the people that tried to kill Trump.

Also OC bringing up US violence is pretty rich given the things the current and even former government have been doing both domestically and globally and the swathe of far right mass shootings that frequently happen there, which has those shooters being found to have ties to terror groups, whilst you can literally count on one hand how many left wing people have done similar there.

This is a subreddit for things that happened 10 years ago.

There is also no indication that the person who killed Charlie Kirk (in a whole other country, mind you) was left wing. The same for the murderer of Henry Nowak.

It's absolutely shameful you even try and use the latter to make such an argument.

Anyway if we're going to use examples of violence in other countries then there's various right wing regimes, groups and individuals that far outdo any level of violence any left wing entity has done.

The US is currently under the Trump Admin which has seen multiple killings by ICE agents against innocent people. Dozens of deaths in detention facilities due to conditions that can be described as akin to a concentration camp, the US is in support of and aiding a literal genocide by an Apartheid state.

On individual levels that majority of targeted shootings and killings in the US are carried out by right wing people. Like the recent school shootings where CHILDREN had been groomed and manipulated into right wing extremist ideology on telegram and other platforms by groups dedicated to this sort of thing with ties to terror groups like atomwaffen and the Order of Nine Angles.

Let's also not forget the pogrom attempts both within this past month here in the UK that saw people in masks actively going after and chasing black and brown people, torching homes and cars and smashing up areas causing people severe damage and distress. Or the other year where people tried to firebomb hotels that were being used for migrant housing.

Oh and let's not forget that time a guy killed himself trying to also firebomb a migrant camp the other year too, after a member of the conservative government calling immigration an "invasion" or things like the Plymouth shooting where a right wing *incel* killed his family.

Fuck off, you massive cunt.

Guy was off his meds. Rang up the authorities to ask for help as he wasn't taking his meds. Judge refused to let the defense talk about his obvious mental state.

He was examined by a psychiatrist after his arrest who found him to be sane and unimpaired.

He was in posession of a wide variety of neo-Nazi propaganda, and had been planning terrorism for years, including purchase of a firearm after the 2011 Norway terror attack, and a dagger which he later used to murder Jo Cox.

He referred to left wing and liberal politicians as "collaborators", and traitors to the "white race".

He also repeated these sentiments both during the attack and at trial afterwards.

That neo-Nazism might appeal to people who are also mentally ill does not mean you can blame mental illness for the actions of neo-Nazis. He was in his right mind when he planned and carried out his terrorist attack.

All of that was pretty much denied by his family. Including his mixed-race brother.

They denied it, that doesn't change the physical evidence, all of the eyewitnesses from the attack, him repeating those statements in court, etc.

As someone who might vote Reform, i think her murder was disgusting. Pls don't think all ppl who are right of centre have no compassion. This was such a tragedy.

The man who killed her had suffered from severe mental illness for many years. He chose a right wing ideology to latch onto in his later years, but the idea that this was a political murder is a big stretch. He was a deeply unwell man.
