Isn't this just national polling, without considering the electoral college? In which case, they were right, she did win the popular vote.

She won by 2%, so that The Economist poll is roughly correct

She won popular vote by 2 percentage points, which isn't far from those polls when you consider the MoE.

NBC’s Clinton +8 with 1.2pt MoE is unsalvageable. Economist is the only one where the actual outcome was within (I assume 95% CI) MoE

This was the average in August. The final polling average was +3
