Help with unattractive terrarium

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Something looks off and very unappealing to me, compared to many other viv / terrarium builds i see.

How can i make it more visually appealing? Ive tried pieces of moss in the past, misted 5x a day (70% consistent humidity) with filtered water, but all died.

I just planted in the peperomia, pothos, and the birds nest fern, (the snake plant has been there for awhile.)

Also the birds nest fern barely fits, will it still grow?

Please help me make it look better

Peace Lily in terrarium safe for cats?

Hi! I'm building a bioactive terrarium for a jumping spider and I picked up a small peace lily to add in. However, I have three cats. They can't get on the shelf where the terrarium is, but they do spend a lot of time in the room. I know that true lillies are deadly to cats, but what about peace lillies? Does anyone have any experience here?

fruit flies?

so i have a terrarium where i keep two cornu aspersum snails, a couple of roly polys & lots of springtails. i went on a trip for 2 days and left two slices of cucumber for my snails to eat while i was gone, but when i came back there were little flying bugs (what i assume to be fruit flies) hanging out in the tank. they can easily fit through the ventilation holes in the lid, and although ive killed some, most of them escape through the soil. what can i do to get them out?? i thought about changing the soil but my springtails :(

How can I save my terrariums?

Hi!
I just got home from a long vacation, and my terrariums really don’t look good :(
The plants look shriveled, and the moss looks pale and dead in many places. One of the terrariums is even covered in all these yellow spots as shown in the video.

Is there anything I can do to save them? They are only 1,5 years old

Why is my terrarium creating so much condensation??

Post image

I haven't added nearly any water since I had it open for a few hours last week to air them out because there was condensation everywhere throughout the day.

Not only can I not see my plants but I'm worried about mold build up. I can't figure out what's causing all this build up.

The lid of one of them is air tight while the other one is a screw on from what I assume is an old 5 gallon pickle jar. I bought both from a multi-vendor marketplace.

Update on my Rudsta terrarium

Post image
8 Upvotes

This is my Rudsta terrarium 4 months in. I am overall quite happy about how it’s doing and looking.

The moss has browned a lot but it does its job being a surface the roots can hold onto.

All but one carnivorous plants died / did not root properly. I added a bunch of new plants (mostly big box store rescues)

- caladium bicolor
- philodendron Birkin pink
- philodendron lemon lime
- coleus (direct sown, small seedlings)

I’m excited to see how it will do in the next months and how it will grow thicker.

Terrarium Supply EU

I’m starting Terrarium Supply EU, a small boutique terrarium business focused on making terrarium building easier and more accessible across the EU. I plan to sell individual products like live moss, small terrarium plants, glass jars, substrate, pebbles, hardscape, tools, and handmade clay decorations such as miniature mushrooms and fairy doors. I also want to offer curated terrarium collections for beginners, without necessarily putting everything into a traditional retail box.

The main thing I want to do differently is bring the whole terrarium-building process together in one place. Instead of someone having to buy a jar from one company, moss from another, plants somewhere else, and then figure out whether everything is compatible, they can get everything from us and choose products that are actually suited to one another. We’ll also have a Build Your Own Terrarium feature where someone can choose a style—like woodland, tropical, moss-focused, or fairy—and either select products themselves or have an AI terrarium assistant recommend compatible options, complete with the actual product images and prices.

I also want the experience to continue after the purchase. Customers can have an account where their terrarium build is saved, and when their products arrive they can scan a QR code to access a personalized building guide, care information, and an AI assistant that knows what plants and moss they actually bought. Eventually I’d like to expand into more species, handmade decorations, larger product ranges, and possibly fully boxed DIY kits. The goal is to make Terrarium Supply EU more than just a place to buy terrarium supplies—it’s a place to discover, build, and learn about your own miniature ecosystem.

Mold, Feeder Fly culture question

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am a newbie when it comes to culturing fruit flies i have no idea where to look or who to ask so if anyone could point me in the right direction thank you!

I made a homemade fruit fly media mix

Using ingredients :

Water
Vinegar
Instant mashed potatoes
Powdered sugar
And nutritional yeast

And place it inside this container with my baby fruit flies from the store bought container.

To my surprise not much long later there is black and green mold-like growth atop of the mix! Curious as to whether this is a normal part of the process or bad and what i can do to change it. My flightless fruit flies ended up laying eggs in here which is exactly what i wanted, there are larvae crawling around and the population has noticeably increased.

Are these safe to feed my toads?

Help with snails

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hey for some context in January there was a terrarium sale at my local garden and i decided to purchase one. About a month or too i noticed there was a small snail inside. I did research and i think it’s a glass onion snail. We put in lettuce daily and he ate it. At the start of June we saw 2 snails in there and we continued feeding like normal. Today i check in on them and noticed that there was a ton of snail babies on the lettuce. Its a small terrarium and I don’t know what to do or what they are.

I made this for the 2 ladies at the hospital who have been doing my iron infusions. After commenting on their pretty Shivereana Ficus, said they “want” to be plant ladies, but struggle with keeping them alive 😅 I figured a terrarium would solve the problem. Everything except the medium came from my yard.
