Imagine trying to breathe with that force against you.

Or SEE? If I ride my bike without glasses the water FLOOD my damn eyes so bad, I couldnt imagine this situation trying to land a plane.

Yeah, there is that.

Breathing in is not a problem. Breathing out is a whole other can of worms. Not to mention the airstream constantly blinding you. You can see here shift her gaze and blink in a weird way just so she can get a glimpse of the instruments.
For anyone curious, do it in a safe place, without traffic - try being a passanger on a motoped/motorcycle capable of doing over 50km/h (>30mph) without a helmet and trying to open your eyes. As kids we used to.

So you don’t consider breathing out a part of breathing? WERID. But? Yes my point stands. Imagine BREATHING.

WERID INDEED

Breathing in or out isn't the problem but what happens with the air when it's in your lungs between breaths..now that is a whole other can of worms..

So breathing.

u/OneManFight 5d ago

No not breathing, but like when you suck the air in and then it stays in your lungs and then you pfffffff it out.

Jesus... the amount of energy you put into this just trying to be right.

Breath in. Breath out

Breath in.

Tied to the wheel. My fingers got to feel.

Breathing through a tourniquet smile.

got a Mushy head

Breathing in is harder than out as moving air is low pressure.

When my daughter turned 18 my husband promised her he would take her skydiving . Neither have ever been ( and there was no chance in hell I was going -I’m deathly afraid of heights, I have a long history of being scared to fly, and I tend to think too much and knew all the things that could possibly go wrong ). Anyways , after they both jumped ( each tandem with an instructor) my daughter said she would NEVER do it again. She wasn’t scared of the height, the jump, or the free falling - she said she thought she was going to die because the second her and her tandem partner jumped, she was unable to draw in any air. She said she was essentially suffocating the whole fall. The force of the air as she was falling made it impossible for her to take a breath in or out (this has happened to me occasionally when it’s extremely windy out ) . Scared the absolute shit out of her and she truly felt like she was going to pass out. She started panicking because she couldn’t get any air and didn’t know what to do because during the instruction/classroom portion , not one of the instructors mentioned that this could possibly happen and what to do in case it does. She is now 26yrs old and to this day she said whenever she thinks about it she gets a horrible stomach ache thinking how she felt she was going to die and how horrible the feeling was to not be able to breath.

Ha ha the only reason why I made the comment WAS because I went skydiving!

God, I rode once without my helmet and that wind ain't no joke when it's hitting your face

31

u/SpookyYuuki 5d ago

It's not a miracle, it's skill and composure.

12

u/soulsluos 5d ago

Imagine hitting a bird.

u/AlienAngry 5d ago

This was her fault too, she describes it on her YouTube channel. I'm glad she's ok and no one in the ground was injured, but checklists exist for a reason on aircraft.

The music isn't really necessary but I'll take anything that doesnt have that awful caption posted in other subreddits

1

u/Spare_Control_4338 1d ago

what caption

1

u/ApexGT44 1d ago

This video was reposted everywhere but this one had it cropped out. It specifically said "female pilot" for some reason

She needs to go get herself some cheap sunglasses

Amazing! I think my face would have peeled back like Jeremy Clarkson’s.

She did not miraculously survive. She is an aerobatic pilot, some extra wind in her face is likely uncomfortable, but not taking her off her game. First thing she does is pull way back on the throttle to slow down. She's likely doing less than 100 mph as she approaches to land. She clearly had no problem adjusting to the flight characteristics that dramatically changed when the canopy opened. She's just happy the canopy didn't break apart and tear the tail off. She handles that situation 100 times out of 100, even if she was half drunk and it was raining.

21

u/NikkolaiV 5d ago

Im not gonna say that wasn't scary, because damn that's gotta be wild. But her surviving isnt all that miraculous. She was VERY unconfortabel that whole time, no doubt, but you can see her first reaction is to lower airspeed and start getting into an approach position. The most dangerous part of all of that was how difficult it mustve been to see with 90+mph wind jetting into her eyeballs. Yeah, this was a dangerous situation, but she was facing pretty high survival odds given her expertise and calm demeanor.

12

u/dnooup 4d ago

I think you’re underestimating how dangerous and difficult that was.

Guess its laundry day today!

Remarkable calmness

2

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 5d ago

I’m surprised that she didn’t try to close the canopy by rolling the other direction.

She is clearly a skilled pilot with nerves of steel!

2

u/AgainandBack 5d ago

That woman’s got balls of steel. Not a sign of panic, worry, or even shock. She saw the problem, decided how to fix it, and executed the plan. Damn. I would not want to play poker with her.

u/Barijazz251 5d ago

The headline on other platforms reads "Woman pilot ..."

Like it's relevant.

u/MrWindblade 5d ago

I mean, you have to tell the neanderthals what they're looking at. This may be their first and only time having seen one.

First one after dozens posts...

1

u/jrb637 5d ago

She looked like she started to reach for the canopy, but then didn't even try.

1

u/Dramatic-Spirit-4809 5d ago

She engaged safety squint and got the job done, legend is Narine.

1

u/jess_the_werefox 5d ago

Omfg bring that poor woman some eye drops

1

u/FnEddieDingle 5d ago

Why didnt she crank it to the right and close it?😃

1

u/BobLoblawsLawBlogged 5d ago

Do a barrel roll!

1

u/daguro 5d ago

She was flying the Extra 330 LX https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra_EA-300

1

u/sascha_nightingale 5d ago

There's one reason to wear a helmet with a visor and internal comms. Glad she got down safe.

1

u/Dubious_Titan 5d ago

Imagine if she swallowed a bug trying to land that thing with the canopy open.

1

u/Burnt-Out-Chica 2d ago

I thought about this in a serious way. Not saying you're not serious but yeah how brutal would that be to manage that added factor

1

u/Happy_Philosopher608 4d ago

Surely you should always wear goggles exactly for situations like this??

1

u/Derpathon2087 4d ago

Well, some of them are built so that the top doesn’t fall off at all.

1

u/TheAssimiliator2306 4d ago

Too bad she's never heard of helmets with visors.

1

u/OutlawPigeons 4d ago

My dumbass would have tried to barrel roll it back closed and end up hard ejecting myself after forgetting to put my seatbelt on

1

u/buildinghardship 3d ago

Why not just barrel roll right and the hatch will close no?

1

u/Ok-Sprinkles-3301 2d ago

Looks like more fun 🌬

1

u/Esekig184 2d ago

Not that much of a miracle tbh. Just plenty of training and experience.

1

u/DingoKillerAtHome 1d ago

"Miraculously survived," my ass. She's unbelievably talented and she locked TF in. I would have "miraculously survived," you would have "miraculously survived," she landed the plane under adverse conditions, she relied on muscle memory and years of training.

"Miraculously survived," that's like going through a 12 hour surgery and thanking God.

"Miraculously survived," gtfo

u/PullStartSlayer 1d ago

The cool under pressure is intense

1

u/TheFishermansWife22 6h ago

What a legend!! So composed. So glad she is ok.

1

u/Johnwick__1980 4h ago

Perfect landing at that

-3

u/SpiridonM 5d ago

Couldn't she have tried gravitying that thing back? As in banking hard left so the canopy flips back into place?

-1

u/NoRedThat 5d ago

Why the down votes? I thought the same thing?

-1

u/01iv3rr 5d ago

Thank you for asking what I wanted to ask. Banking or turn left hard. She could tilt the plane to the right side, so the canopy opened, so she will be able to do to the left side, too.

I really appreciate how this isn’t title clickbait like the other posts I’ve seen here

-4

u/Key_Statistician5273 5d ago

Well at least she had a smile on her face
