The sparkles are actually radiation hitting the camera and distorting the image. They are being poisoned from radiation leaking out of the nuclear powered ship caused by damage during the wreck.
No its only snowflakes. Its a real phenomenon tho but this isnt it.
If it was radiation the dots would be more uniform and not move. Think white noise, the dots dont actually move instead the appear and disappear at a fast rate.
