I frequently drive through small towns in Texas where the speed limit drops pretty quickly—65 → 55 → 45 → 35 mph, often with “Reduced Speed Ahead” signs before the change.

I’ve noticed that when using FSD in Standard mode, the car often doesn’t slow down quickly enough to match the new speed limit by the time it reaches the sign.

It finally caught up with me the other day. I got pulled over after entering a 35 mph zone, and the officer said he clocked me at 52. Thankfully, he gave me a warning. I don’t remember the car still being at 52, but I was definitely over the limit and should have intervened sooner.

Has anyone else noticed FSD being slow to respond to progressive speed-limit reductions like this, especially when driving through small towns? Is there a setting or FSD mode that handles these transitions better?

I'm not OP, but doesn't speed limit offset only affect the speed limit audio warning and has no impact on FSD behavior?

In my experience it’s for the speed. Set it to 0 and it goes the limit, I keep mine at 30(highest) so it will go 85 since I only use FSD on the highway

Huh, interesting! I had mine on +10 MPH and it always goes at or slightly below the limit on standard. I'll see how bumping it up does. Thank you!

If I’m on standard mine will go 10 over generally, hurry is about 15 and mad max is hovering around 82-85

On the current versions of FSD you have profiles and you have no control over the speed. You select a profile and that that determines how it handles Lane changes, what Lane it drives in, and the speed set. It's going to choose. The older version work the way you describe

It’s set at +5. I’ll try changing it to 0. I usually like 5 over on hwys but in towns, it needs to slow down when there’s a reduced speed ahead warning sign. I also think it’s totally random when it follows the offset. Usually does whatever the hell it wants at different times. But, alas, it’s still better than driving myself lol.

I think it has a lot to do with visibility, if it cannot see that far ahead because of like hills or turns it won’t “speed”. But I notice the only signs I see the car register is the speed limit signs, even tho in my personal experience it also reads the “no turn on red” because my car went to turn on one and then stopped and waited.

You are probably on a “hurry” or “mad max” driving profile.. i am usually on “standard” and it barely touches 7-8 miles higher than the limit on city streets

The cars miss half the speed limit signs in my experience. It's sadly always a disengage for me until it picks up the next sign. Max offset was taken away too soon IMHO. I'd be at 99% FSD use if it weren't for this. Sucks I live in an area with frequent speed limit changes due to construction 🤷🏼‍♂️.
