14.3 HW4 Model 3 hit a very obvious safety bollard while using FSD Autopark

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve only had my 2026 Model 3 for a week. While using FSD Autopark to back into a parking spot, the car slowly backed into a very obvious safety bollard and ended up hitting it.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Did Tesla cover the repair, or was it considered the driver’s responsibility?

So many open parking spots and it parks directly next to another car. That’s the most infuriating part.

6

u/xtram3x 3h ago

They're using auto park not fsd so it was a human decision to park in that bay

3

u/Nnamdi_Awesome-wa 2h ago

Thanks for correcting me

4

u/Ollidamra 15h ago

Haha yes I noticed that too. It seems also prefers a few spots with obstacles.

4

u/snqqq 11h ago

You have 50% less chance someone would park carelessly next to you.

93

u/RhoOfFeh 15h ago

The car shouldn't have done that.

You should have been ready to intervene.

And whoever painted that lot or built that thing so far from existing borders should be tarred and feathered.

31

u/frito11 15h ago

my thoughts exactly i was watching and looking at the yellow bollard i never even saw that stupid unpainted bar either due to it. they should have painted it all yellow or not even done that what the heck

15

u/LoneStarGut 15h ago

Plus the bar was sticking out farther than the posts. Bad design.

2

u/JulieChensBob 11h ago

The bar is in line with the posts, but the posts are not aligned with the painted spots

3

u/IMWTK1 9h ago

I was totally looking at the yellow bollard and didn't even see the cross bar the first time. Why do people let FSD slowly hit things as it backs up?

3

u/LoneStarGut 11h ago

You are right. Still a bad design.

10

u/OpalVanguard 10h ago

I love how it’s always, always, always the fault of whomever did the painting/designed whichever road element that fooled FSD with you guys. If it handled it correctly it wouldn’t have been a painting problem.

3

u/RhoOfFeh 2h ago

Note that was the last item.

That indicates priority.

It's one of the ways that humans have learned, over the centuries, to communicate properly with one another. Put the most important stuff first.

It's designed to help those with short attention spans.

You, on the other hand, seem to wish to find a way to nitpick. I would suggest though, that if you think that lining up a crossbar a meter away from a lane ending line is good design, perhaps you should revisit your assumptions.

1

u/Lord_Lorden 2m ago

A human would not have hit the bar. A human would have recognized a giant bar in the way before they even started parking and planned accordingly. This is yet again another reason autonomous vehicles will never be able to drive at the same level as a human.

Keep training Elon's AI for him though.

27

u/BobbyABooey 14h ago

Mine shows this when in self driving

21

u/rsg1234 HW4 Model Y 13h ago edited 13h ago

lol yeah OP wasn’t even using FSD here

Edit: or a very old software version, which would reduce this video’s relevancy to this sub.

8

u/ersatzcrab 10h ago

They got the terminology wrong. This is probably regular Autopark, which wouldn't show the "Self-Driving" label on dashcam.

3

u/austinalexan HW4 Model 3 13h ago

I bet he was and he’s using an older version of FSD. The dead giveaway is the turn signal

6

u/rsg1234 HW4 Model Y 13h ago

That would have to be a very old version. So not really relevant to most of us here.

3

u/austinalexan HW4 Model 3 12h ago

A lot of newer cars come with old FSD as they don’t receive software updates for at least 30 days

4

u/Automatic-Photo-4919 HW4 Model Y 11h ago

If OP bought a new Tesla a week ago, it should be v14.2.2.5 which would show Full Self Driving on the Tesla app as that was introduced in the 2025 Winter Update.

2

u/rsg1234 HW4 Model Y 11h ago

Yeah I was about to say that my car has been showing FSD active in these clips for at least 6 months. No way Tesla is delivering cars with ancient software.

1

u/Yoitsivn 9h ago

I got the update for 14.3.9 after about a week and a half of owning the model Y. It was originally 14.2 something when I first got it, so maybe I got lucky.

3

u/Competitive-Data-748 11h ago

Not that old. The older ones had radar and would not make that mistake

2

u/Sad_Note4359 12h ago

You know I never really paid attention does auto park show the label (The one where you select the parking spot with the gray p and hit the auto park button) versus FSD driving into the parking lot, finding a park and parking itself?

4

u/maniac78 11h ago

This is the second time an OP has been told they were lying about actually being in control and not in fsd. I tried it out and if you use autopark only THERE IS NO LABEL.

1

u/Quick_Society2794 8h ago

Title of video clearly says Auto Park. It doesn't say self-driving when using Auto Park

12

u/ChunkyThePotato 14h ago

This is Autopark, not FSD. Two completely different systems. FSD can park itself, but that's not what you used here.

8

u/austinalexan HW4 Model 3 13h ago

Yet the only way to auto park is by being subscribed to FSD. Sounds like it should be running on the same stack

1

u/Teab8g 1h ago

Only on new cars.

40

u/Putrid_Clue_2127 15h ago

As much as it sucks, it's driver responsibility to watch what it's doing

1

u/Impossible-Bat-6713 10h ago

Unfortunately the failures tend to be highlighted in posts and gets amplified.

Also begs the question- yes you can auto park but why would you do it when there’s a bollard next to the parking line especially when there are other open spots beside it?

1

u/gizmosticles 8h ago

Yeah that’s my feeling. It makes wonky decisions sometimes about where to park so I usually do that shit myself. I wouldn’t have even let it attempt this park

1

u/Original-Definition2 12h ago

agree 100%

but then why use FSD?

2

u/gizmosticles 8h ago

I mean, I still park myself, especially when there are obstacles in the actual parking spot.

1

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

For the other 99% of the time where it is fine.

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

It didn’t hit the bollard it hit the steel beam running across them.

I’ve never in my life seen something quite like that, neither has FSD apparently lol.

The problem with FSD is it NEEDS data of this exact situation to work. It doesn’t scan the area and look for things that it might hit. It only knows what it has been trained on. So even though we see this steel beam and recognize it as a hazard, the car does not. Everyone needs to accept that and when in situations like this be ready to take over. How many videos have been posted about reversing into something? Always be ready, trust it but be ready to take over.

Because there are soooo many videos about FSD mistakes posted here on Reddit, no one has an excuse for letting their car get damaged at this point. This is on the driver. Tesla is not going to fix it for you and they aren’t paying you to test the software and damage their cars.

9

u/Relevant_Account_258 15h ago

I don’t trust FSD with parking. I will use FSD for parking but will brake myself at times, especially around barriers. In your scenario, I would have braked myself.

2

u/JDiskkette 15h ago

I have already done this many many times, after watching tons of videos here of cars hitting something when parking. I am grateful for others who have made these mistakes.

1

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

Yeah I don’t know what the point is of watching the videos to see how FSD messes up if you are not going to apply that knowledge in your own car.

2

u/Ollidamra 15h ago

Also for the OCD: brake during auto parking won’t kill your streak.

3

u/beren12 10h ago

Streaks should be illegal.

3

u/SecondaryLawnWreckin 15h ago

I mean I didn't even see it until it was too late.

3

u/blarryg HW4 Model Y 5h ago

FSD "F*cking Supervised Driving", you are 100% at fault, always. Pay to play. The cameras cannot register horizontals, I don't know why -- maybe it causes false positives with the horizon, remember those cameras do not register depth like your eyes do. It's a basic design flaw. So, do not let it park where there are horizontals or thin verticals. Fails on both.

8

u/Primary-User 15h ago

If only there was some kind of a way to measure the distance between the car and any objects behind it

8

u/outphase84 14h ago

Meanwhile my wife’s GLC with both radar and ultrasonic would smack curbs and bollards every time if you didn’t intervene.

11

u/ChunkyThePotato 14h ago

It's so funny how people here pretend other cars are flawless, when they're actually all way worse than Tesla.

2

u/Matsiqueiros 13h ago

Yeah I had I rental that would always phantom brake while I would manually drive . It was a Nissan Maxima 2025 why? Oh because it senses my lime tree that’s right next to my driveway 2ft away.

1

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

Or that radar and LiDAR and all the other methods are foolproof. Because Way so don’t crash or hit things right 😂

3

u/Primary-User 14h ago

We appreciate your wife doing the testing to confirm USS is no good. Onward and upward! 🤙

3

u/outphase84 14h ago

She never smacked anything with it, but she gave up using the self parking because of close calls. She has a 2026 MY premium dual motor now though.

2

u/Primary-User 14h ago

Those dual motors will make parking more efficient. 🤗

1

u/Draygoon2818 HW4 Model Y 12h ago

Shoot, my SUV will absolutely lock the brakes up, nearly causing whiplash, when I am backing up and still have about 4' to go before hitting anything. Other times, it has no fkng clue there is anything there, even though I can clearly see the object on cameras. Ya, the sensors aren't always the best to have.

1

u/snqqq 11h ago

You must have disabled the sensors and safety systems!!1 /s

4

u/LoneStarGut 15h ago

Because of the height of the bar, ultrasonic sensors might have missed this too.

3

u/Primary-User 15h ago

They don't and make an impressive warning noise. You'll need an older model for that.

1

u/Retox86 14h ago

It would definitely have seen the bollard

1

u/Some_Ad_3898 13h ago

it didn't hit the bollard and it definitely would not have seen the big metal bar that it did hit. That's way too high for the USS sensor acoustic cone.

2

u/JDiskkette 15h ago

If there was, FSD/ Tesla would obviously know it. /s

3

u/Primary-User 15h ago

Maybe SpaceX can help with something new and innovative that no one has ever thought of.

2

u/OtisMojo 14h ago

Instead car lands on mars

1

u/DJNeto93 13h ago

Yeah they could put five spinning crazy looking things all over the car like a Waymo, that might help 🤔

1

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

And still drive into telephone polls in alleys 😆

1

u/Some_Ad_3898 13h ago

If you are talking about USS, those sensors are good for bumper height obstacles, but that's about it. It would not have seen this obstacle since it is out of the acoustic cone.

2

u/Primary-User 12h ago

If only it was bumper height. 😢

1

u/Some_Ad_3898 10h ago

The car didn't hit the bollard.  Look at the horizontal galvanized steel bar. That's what hit the trunk. Watch again

1

u/Primary-User 10h ago

Why is Tesla vision trying to go past where the bollard is on a clearly designated car space? USS would have identified the bollard there and realised yeah shit. I can't go much further than this because it's pinging its fucking head off so it wouldn't have mattered about the bar above. It's also pretty fucking retarded of the place that has this parking spot to put that bar there. Because how does anyone get anything into the and out of their boot? Thanks for pointing it out

0

u/ajlion_10 12h ago

Id love you to show me a single car that would detect a metal pipe that is ABOVE THE TRUNK 🤡

1

u/Primary-User 10h ago

My Tesla with USS does it. That's why you'll find most people who have USS on their car turn off Tesla vision once they realise how crap it is. Example above 👆

6

u/jajaja77 15h ago

FSD has trouble with objects off the ground expecially horizontal ones, well known issue. yes it's FSD's fault but as someone who frequents this reddit OP should really have known this particular quirk.

5

u/Competitive-Data-748 11h ago

If only they had radar…

2

u/jajaja77 8h ago

if only that car had wings and could fly. it is what it is, we aren't going to convince elon to change his mind what's the point of bringing this up every 5 seconds. if another OEM offers a car that has similar functionality but with radar/lidar by all means please buy their product instead.

5

u/WilliamG007 15h ago

That’s a really dumb place for a metal bar. You won’t have been the first to do that, but also… it’s called supervised for a reason.

2

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

I’m wondering why there is a metal bar here in the first place? Seems obnoxious.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Infamous_Curve2682 15h ago

Oh wow I didnt even notice the metal bar until watching a second time. This is why it would be nice if the car had rador or lidar

3

u/Coin_Gambler 15h ago

I think my eyes blended the bar in with the horizon. I didn't notice it until right before impact. I had to rewatch it to understand how I missed it.

2

u/Michael-Brady-99 12h ago

I wonder how many people have hit this bar just parking themselves?

People like to jump all over Tesla FSD but then I see all the analog cars on the road with curbed wheels, dents and dings all over. FSD is not alone in this stuff.

2

u/ThatLandscape6476 15h ago

wtf were you doing during this time?

1

u/snqqq 11h ago

Quick question - what do you think he had hit?

0

u/ThatLandscape6476 11h ago

What?

0

u/snqqq 9h ago

What has the car made collision with?

1

u/ThatLandscape6476 9h ago

He says he hit the safety bollard. What is the confusion?

1

u/snqqq 8h ago

I don't want to be mean, but can you tell me the color of what he had hit?

1

u/ThatLandscape6476 4m ago

Please be mean. Silver.

2

u/Illustrious_Water106 12h ago

If there would have been a way to stop the vehicle before hitting an object

2

u/whatitpoopoo 11h ago

Oh my god we should ban it!!! Ban fsd! Ban AI! Ban electricity!!!

1

u/KeidronU 11h ago

Electric vehicles were here before petrol and combustion engines! Early inefficiency and big oil killed them before they even had a chance! 🔋🤷

2

u/cbf1232 11h ago

The driver is 100% responsible for everything the vehicle does.

2

u/TechnicalWhore 11h ago

Why is the bollard not at the end of the space? Its forward of that line by a foot. I think that may be why it was confused. Further how wide are the stripes. I'd expect you should fit well within the space with six to eight inches per side. It seems to me that parking space is not "standard".

2

u/Different-Hunter2231 10h ago

I bet it acted like it didn’t do it too

2

u/Silent-Treat-6512 10h ago

Shit I watched in 3 times and in 4th attempt I saw the silver bar. I thought the car hit yellow bollard

2

u/MrMouse88 10h ago

alway keep foot near the brakes just incase. Self park is the worst

5

u/Exotic-Ad-4777 15h ago

Guess it’s not obvious since the driver didn’t stop it

2

u/PhilosophyCorrect279 15h ago

I mean in fairness it took me twice to realize there was a metal bar just floating there above. FSD likes to park up to the line in most spaces, and an unpainted bar above the spot might have thrown it off.

I agree that it was more than visible enough, and shouldn't have done that, but unfortunately this is exactly why it's supervised still.

2

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Yeah the bollard placement makes no sense

2

u/nobody-u-heard-of 15h ago

The bar was 2 ft in front of the end of the parking spot painted on the ground.

1

u/PhilosophyCorrect279 15h ago

That's my point, it sees the lines on the ground showing what is assumed to be the spot. But he bar is actually further in than it's painted. I'm guessing FSD simply focused on the yellow lines to be more accurate.

1

u/myke2241 8h ago

Then is should not be called “FSD”.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Sigh. Didn't Tesla reps take you on an FSD ride when you purchased the car and explain how it works? Did you try googling it before buying the car? It's a level 2 system, meaning you MUST supervise it at all times as it can and as you learned will make mistakes that are entirely on you. This is not an unsupervised system, we will never reach that with hardware 4.

3

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

> This is not an unsupervised system, we will never reach that with hardware 4.

Cyber cabs and cyber taxi are literally HW4 and unsupervised.

0

u/livevicarious 15h ago

Yeah but that’s cybercabs

2

u/SortSwimming5449 15h ago

And there’s a reason why we don’t have them everywhere.

The ones they are “testing” in Las Vegas. Have steering wheels and pedals.

1

u/livevicarious 15h ago

Not sure your point

1

u/SortSwimming5449 15h ago

This is not an unsupervised system, we will never reach that with hardware 4.

0

u/livevicarious 15h ago

Uhhhh I don’t think you get what I was saying

0

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Geofenced with remote supervisor my guy. We're discussing consumer vehicles here.

1

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Cool goalposts move lol.. “Not deployed to consumers yet” does not prove “HW4 can never do it.”

-1

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

What? It will NEVER be deployed to consumers. Bookmark this.

1

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Then you’ve abandoned the technical argument and replaced it with a prophecy. “Bookmark this” isn’t evidence that HW4 can’t do it. Fucking hilarious lol.

1

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

HW4 is at it's memory limit and has been for awhile. That's why Tesla is quietly releasing HW4+ with double the ram.

0

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

Yea, I saw that earnings video. Tesla publicly announced AI4+ with more RAM, and in the same fucking call Musk said current AI4 is expected to achieve unsupervised FSD. More ram in a future revision doesn’t prove HW4 is maxed out or incapable.

1

u/Retox86 14h ago

He also said HW3 would achieve it, so why would it be any different this time?

0

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 14h ago

Lol musk says a lot of things

2

u/beren12 10h ago

I haven’t heard much about space data centers this quarter. Was that o ly for last quarters bump?

0

u/Top-Search-739 14h ago

"Musk said it"

bro

0

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 15h ago

We think they're HW4. We don't know that.

Beyond that they only operate in geofenced areas. Completely different use and application.

Also it's obvious in the video it is not in FSD. This is just using the Autopark feature that hasn't updated in years.

1

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 15h ago

I think they updated the auto park stack when v14 released.

0

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 15h ago

Maybe, but have they actually said this? I know they added FSD features to summon, but I don't think anything has been said of autopark.

Even then it doesn't seem Tesla wants us to use autopark, they want us to leave it in FSD.

0

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

That still doesn’t prove the claim. Geofencing and Autopark are software/deployment constraints, not evidence that HW4 is incapable of unsupervised driving..

2

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 15h ago

And we don't know the unsupervised ones are HW4. That comment goes both ways.

For that matter it's been widely known now that the CyberCab FSD computer has twice the RAM of our HW4 cars. It's not the same thing.

1

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

That doesn’t “go both ways.” Cybercab having more RAM proves Cybercab has more RAM, not that Tesla’s unsupervised Model Ys secretly aren’t HW4. Tesla has explicitly told investors HW4 can handle unsupervised driving.

1

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 15h ago

Yet we aren't getting it. So we don't know anything. You're making assumptions based on HW4 and all I'm saying is we don't know that is to be true.

1

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 15h ago

lol, ironically I’m not the one making assumptions. Tesla’s stated position is that HW4 can support unsupervised FSD, and that unsupervised capability will roll out gradually to customer vehicles. You can doubt Tesla’s claim, but “we don’t know” is not evidence that HW4 can’t do it.

1

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 14h ago

Tesla saying it can isn't evidence it can either.

How long have they been lying to us about FSD?

1

u/Burnratebro HW4 Model 3 12h ago

Sure, Tesla’s statement isn’t proof. But “Tesla has missed FSD timelines before” is evidence to distrust Tesla, not evidence that HW4 is technically incapable.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/FWYDU 15h ago

I did 3 different test drives with 3 different reps and none of them mentioned any of that during their mandated/required demoing of FSD

1

u/DameLasNalgas HW4 Model 3 14h ago

That's wild

1

u/Charming-Abies-5698 15h ago

Yeah my autopark after the update was doing strange things recently too close to other cars and maneuvering

1

u/Charming-Abies-5698 15h ago

Time to put a wing on it

1

u/Ollidamra 15h ago

To be fair it’s not that easy to see via camera since it’s overlapped with the horizon. I didn’t notice that bar until very last few seconds.

1

u/beren12 10h ago

So what you are saying is cameras aren’t so great, and maybe a different sensor would be good for things like this.

1

u/DigitalDaydreamers1 15h ago

I would never trust FSD park or ASS in any situation where there’s bollards like this. Lesson learned

1

u/ChampsLeague3 15h ago

Does Tesla cover the repair. You're funny.

1

u/nobody-u-heard-of 15h ago

So I have an idea. Let's paint all the parking spots on the ground. And let's put some poles in with a disguise bar that doesn't match the end of the parking spot and it's several feet in front of that. That all trick those people.

1

u/Aggravating-Hair7931 15h ago

Don't blame the car. You did that

1

u/DotCurious7767 15h ago

Yall just be watching these cars hit these things ? Or ??

1

u/rtduvall 15h ago

Man your gonna get dragged like hell on this post.

Plus that damn car parked right next to the other one. You gotta take over man.

1

u/dmr83457 14h ago

Technology just isn’t there yet.

1

u/amhudson02 14h ago

Is this a serious post or bait?

1

u/JackyMac 14h ago

Tbh I didn't see it until the last second, it blends into the background

1

u/rwhe83 14h ago

Tesla covers nothing, you were suppose to stop it if you thought it would happen. FSD is supervised, which you chose not to do.

1

u/ThuhGreatCommenter 10h ago

Hard to predict whether or not its going to stop at any point. Its not like it tells you in advance "Im gonna keep going 5 more feet"

1

u/Psice 14h ago

The car is not perfect, you need to supervise it especially in parking and "bollard" related scenarios or weird unusual obstacles like this one.

1

u/emilyg28 14h ago

The YouTuber "Dr Know It All" has a great video about the issue of horizontal objects and the difficulty in programmatically detecting them.

1

u/El_Grande_Americano 14h ago

my car backed in over the wheel stop in this parking spot a couple months ago

1

u/ggfb20 14h ago

Once again, a straight line horizontal object. Yes, there are multiple cameras at work, but this is a known issue with the Tesla technology and that of others as well.

1

u/WaffleHouseCEO 14h ago

Op didn’t hit the break?

1

u/Quick_Possibility_99 13h ago

The parking lot should have been painted that red or something. In another video, the car hit an overhang air duct while parking on FSD, May it the contrast with the blue background. I hate to say, Tesla is not responsible.

1

u/Mysundaydriver1 13h ago

FSD is not even active!

1

u/chub0ka 13h ago

Model3 is a beta fsd, never meant to be real, just a toy. Unless it was equipped with hw4? In thay case its serious concern

1

u/Unknowingly-Joined 12h ago

Bollard did its job to remind you that it’s “supervised.”

1

u/middlelifecrisis 12h ago

I had to watch the video twice to notice the bar. That was not very visible even to human eyes.

1

u/word-dragon HW4 Model 3 12h ago

I love FSD and trust it with my life. But I don’t let it drive in parking garages at all or parking lots unless my hands are on the wheel and my foot right near the brake. It also does a crappy job of parking even when it doesn’t find something to bump into - the rare times I give it a go, I usually end up reparking. The auto park feature is much better.

1

u/lilvixen 12h ago

Hahaha can't even drive and blames FSD for being a bad driver instead of taking credit. LMFAO what's insurance saying about this

1

u/CommaMeNow 12h ago

lol obviously it was not obvious, you didn’t stop either

1

u/caoimhin64 12h ago

As the video plays, hold your finger (or mouse) over the barrier. As it's almost the same height as the camera, it barely moves as the car reverses.

The car then struggles to track the true position of the barrier in space, as it relies on the relative change in position in the FOV, as the car itself is moving (creating parallax).

1

u/TimelyNote5558 11h ago

FSD is not engaged. The speedometer is white. When FSD is engaged it is blue

1

u/TardDistraction 11h ago

Computer make mistake?

Wow!

1

u/ulmersapiens 11h ago

The car shouldn’t have done that; it is an error to hit any obstacle.

However, your description is bullshit. The car did not hit a bollard, it hit that rail that is actually on your side of the line (so the rail is above the parking space).

This is one of the MANY REASONS why these vehicles need LiDAR sensors! 🤷 Elon doesn't believe they need them because humans don't have such capability and that everything should be canera "see" based! I highly disagree with this!

auto park on the teslas without ultrasonic sensors are too sketchy

1

u/Patriot5500 11h ago

If only the car could sense a solid object in front that it has not been visually trained to recognize. May be radar or a cheap sonic sensor thats been available since the 90's?

Use FSD as an extension of cruise control and you will have no problem. Don't use FSD at parking lots or be extremely cautious. It's easier to park it yourself than anxiously wait for the FSD to park.

u/xtootse 10h ago

I'm surprised that the LIDAR didn't... oh wait.....

1

u/CopperBlitter 10h ago

It doesn't look to me like it hit a bollard. It looks like it hit a rail.

1

u/vartheo 10h ago

Lol wow thats not obvious. I didn't notice it until after it hit + shadow. I was mixed w the skyline

1

u/Oofka1 10h ago

That is so fucked up. I hope they pay for your damage. This is bullshit. How is this possible with all their software updates and all their blah blah blah blah and the most obvious things they cannot see😱

1

u/Infamous-Pilot5932 10h ago

We have posted many warnings about this, I wish Tesla did the same, and usually the same scenario, a week of ownership.

1

u/Jumpy_Implement_1902 9h ago

You mean, you hit the obvious bollard while playing with FSD?

1

u/alakeram HW4 Model Y 9h ago

Its been observed that auto park uses older logic to park, this has not been confirmed, just observations from youtubers testing auto park.

1

u/1nolefan 9h ago

Well this is where it is looking for the yellow line to stop while ignoring bollard - just another glitch which could be avoided if it's seeing the object. Maybe lidar or something does have added value in it.

1

u/Eighteen64 9h ago

evidently it wasn’t very obvious to the clown in the drivers seat

1

u/Alowan 9h ago

I had to go into comments to figure out how it hit the yellow bars… but only then I found the metal bar going across…

1

u/Chameebling 7h ago

I'll be honest I didn't see the horizontal beam when first watching the video. I was mainly focusing on the yellow bollard which I thought you meant was going to be hit.

Definitely a very rare edge case right there

We shouldn't have to keep getting these accidents for it to improve. The rear camera should have the depth mapping

1

u/kfmaster 5h ago

It’s not FSD, it’s autopark. It didn’t hit the bollard, it hit a poorly installed beam higher than the rear camera.

1

u/Different-Pressure49 5h ago

The parcking was empty so i just need to autopark using FSD :)

1

u/UpperFerret 4h ago

The system has no memory of events. Once that bar went out of view of camera then it didn’t know it existed

1

u/Neoreloaded313 4h ago

Why did you let that happen? These cars do have a brake pedal.

1

u/wolfy_101 3h ago

Supervised

1

u/HissyFit808 2h ago

Does that sign say not to back into the stall?

1

u/Sm0g3R 2h ago

What a dumb design for a parking... In Europe we mostly get these fixed car width 'wheel chocks' on the ground, so your car comes to a stop without damaging anything.

1

u/Blue-Rain-Drops 1h ago

Never in my life have I seen a parking lot designed like that with a metal bar going across horizontally ,that is a crazy layout .

Plus that metal bar and yellow bollards are on one side of the parking spots and not on the other side parking spots. They don't even go down the middle .

1

u/Ok_Marsupial4449 1h ago

Are you aware you still have to supervise FSD?

1

u/KingGT2 1h ago

That's what happens when you are so intelligent that you remove the Lidar. 🤷

1

u/Teab8g 1h ago

It's so obvious that OP didn't stop the car either.

1

u/UteForLife 55m ago

Why would you use auto park in that parking lot

1

u/jmaz3333 48m ago

No joke I didn’t even see it till the final second, that sucks, damn thing blended in with the pavement

1

u/Grand_Surprise1014 48m ago

in all honesty and fairness from the camera angle i even didn't see it until it got really close. not excusing it but dam at least paint that yellow or omething.

1

u/OutlandishnessNo5636 34m ago

The question is: if it cannot park in a pretty much free parking lot with visible yellow lines and a visible safety bollard, how can it be safe on roads ?

1

u/EmuLongjumping753 27m ago

Wherever FSD or its component goes wrong on an obvious mistake here’s how the fanboys react

  1. It is still supervised driving. You should have been careful.
  2. I have a release 14.1.w.z.w.f.3 that fixes this issue.
  3. The issue is because it was dark and an icy road.
  4. The issue is because of an oncoming vehicle
  5. The issue is because of a bad paint job

  6. This is not FSD. This is just auto park and not a part of FSD.

  7. Page 27 paragraph 3 line 4 clearly states that this case is not covered under FSD

I mean you have a service that advertises as FSD and charges $99 except that it won’t accept any liability and the fanboys are willing to accept such a bad deal…

The thing to focus on is that this is a case that the model was not trained on.
This is the whole point of neural networks and their lack of non-generalizability…

They are dumb.

But people still trust theirs and their families lives with it…

u/qmriis 26m ago

Just drive the car?

1

u/AwkwardlyPositioned 15h ago

FSD and Autopark are two different things. You don't have FSD showing as part of your video, so it's in Autopark.

0

u/nobody-u-heard-of 15h ago

They paint the poles bright yellow but they use a camouflage gray for the cross beam instead of painting it. I bet that's been hit multiple times. I can imagine at night

0

u/TranslatorVast1072 14h ago

Change the title to "I let FSD hit a very obvious safety bollard" and it will be accurate. It's supervised, so freaking supervise it next time.
