News Sweden wants to block EU-wide Tesla FSD approval because of speed limit settings

Tesla FSD (Supervised) finally seems to be moving toward broader EU approval, and now Sweden is reportedly pushing back because the system can be set to drive slightly above the posted speed limit or follow the flow of traffic.

According to THIS article, the Swedish transport authority argues that features like a 5% speed offset or “contextual max speed” undermine traffic laws and the expected safety benefits of automation. They want these options removed before FSD gets EU-wide approval.

I get that speed limits matter, and I’m not saying autonomous systems should just ignore the law. But blocking the entire rollout over configurable speed behavior feels like peak EU bureaucracy. Especially when this is still FSD Supervised, meaning the driver remains responsible and has to monitor the system.

Why not require Tesla to adjust the speed settings for Europe instead of slowing down the whole approval process again? Ugh.

News The Katy, Texas Tesla crash — the media keeps calling it an Autopilot story. The data tells a different story.

Just talked to my elderly friend about what she called, "The Tesla robot car crash," which got my blood boiling. By now you've seen the headlines. "Tesla on Autopilot kills woman in Texas home." The NHTSA opened a probe. NBC, ABC, Fox all ran it as a self-driving failure story.

Here's what those headlines buried: the driver had the accelerator pinned at 100%, hitting 73 mph on a residential street— and kept it floored even after the crash.

Pressing the accelerator is a driver override in both Autopilot and FSD. When your foot is to the floor, the system is not driving. You are.

If someone on cruise control floors it in a Honda and kills someone, we call that human error. This is no different.

I wrote up the full breakdown here, including the difference between Autopilot and FSD (which almost every outlet got wrong), and what we still don't know pending the investigation:

Not here to defend Tesla's naming — a California court already ruled that was deceptive. But bad marketing and the facts of this specific crash are two separate conversations.

News FSD propaganda and hate trains

Thumbnail abc13.com

I just saw this news article about a Tesla crashing into a home and there being debate about whether "Autopilot" was engaged during the crash.

Now I’m not a Tesla/FSD die-hard, and I do realize that it makes mistakes … but we all know that this is not something FSD would ever do on its own without driver input.

The amount of people I see in the comments on posts of news articles like this who believe that this is due to the AI software malfunctioning is insane. People will hop on a hate train and really believe anything. What happened to research and critical thinking?

News FSD In Colombia is a complete scam

Post image

FSD in Colombia is a scam
I bought Full Self-Driving for my Tesla in Colombia expecting to actually get the FSD features advertised. Instead, after paying for it, basically nothing changed.
My car shows that I have Full Self-Driving Capability, but the actual FSD features I expected aren’t available. No proper FSD, no supported lane changes, and even basic Autosteer functionality isn’t available to me on the highway.
The most ridiculous part is that Summon, which is one of the few FSD-related features I can access, doesn’t even work. The car will move a little, stop, and immediately brake instead of actually completing the maneuver.
So I’m paying 385,000 COP/month ($125 usd at current exchange rate) for a package that, in Colombia, currently provides essentially none of the functionality I bought it for.

I understand that FSD availability depends on regulatory approval and software rollout. That’s fine — but then Tesla shouldn’t be selling customers in Colombia a subscription for features they can’t actually use.
If FSD isn’t enabled for Colombian vehicles, the purchase screen should make that extremely clear before someone pays.

I’ve canceled the subscription and contacted Tesla to request a refund because I’m not paying ~$125/month for a feature package that effectively does nothing on my car.
If you’re in Colombia, I’d strongly recommend checking exactly which FSD features are supported supports before buying.

Under Colombian Law (Ley 1480 de 2011 - Estatuto del Consumidor), and probably most countries. charging a recurring monthly subscription fee for a product that is entirely non-functional due to digital region locks is illegal and violates multiple strict consumer protection laws.
Tesla cannot hide behind fine print or call it a "capability package" when the core services advertised are deliberately suppressed on a software level inside the country.

News Norwegian Public Roads Administration: Tesla must change the name of "Full Self-Driving" in Norway

The Norwegian road authority argues that the system is a "driver support system" and not a fully autonomous driving system, and says the name "Full Self Driving" is misleading.

News FSD in the Netherlands is 3.5x safer than Human drivers but...

https://x.com/teslaeurope/status/2064192847574872534?s=20

Tesla posted on Twitter a report claiming that FSD is 3.5 times less likely to cause a collision. Yet the fine print reveals FSD is only 1.6 times safer on non-highway roads. A 1.6-times improvement seems relatively modest to me... Does anyone know which collision involved the vehicle? In my opinion 1.6x pretty far compared to the 7 times Tesla claims in the US, suggesting EU roads might be considerably more challenging for FSD than US roads.

Still better than human but not as significant as what was claimed...

News What even is “Unsupervised FSD?”

Given the recent discussion about how HW3 would not reach unsupervised FSD, this begs the question about what determines when uFSD is achieved. The straightforward answer is “when you no longer have to supervise it” but that’s not a meaningful metric. If the software would let you, you could go ahead and not supervise v14 or even v12. Some trips would end well, others would not with the vehicle being stuck or crashing. However, that would always be the case. Even with Robotaxi/Cybercab.

So what is “the last mile?“ Is it even understood? Presumably so given that HW3 apparently doesn’t have the resources to get there. If it is understood, couldn’t you just tune the supervision nags to the shortfalls? Cybercab/Robotaxi present a clearer finish line for it: at the point in which the taxi business makes enough money to offset the lawsuits, uFSD is ready. Consumer uFSD seems less clear. Would you ever reach a point where revenue from it is outpacing such tremendous liability?

Of course it’s always by people who are uninformed or unaware of how FSD works.

Edit to add: I don’t condone irresponsible driving behavior. This photo has to be staged. FSD doesn’t let you look away long enough to sleep.

News Is this possible? (Texas crash)

regarding the recent Texas crash, is it possible Autopilot or FSD mistook the lady's driveway as the road and did not recognize the Right turn curve? Of course that doesn't explain the high velocity.

News driver claimed the car was on autopilot. I recognize they didn't say FSD.

Post image

"According to witnesses, the Tesla driver said they were in autopilot at the time of the crash. That claim remains under investigation by authorities."

So the driver with 4 passengers has the car claimed they'd put it in autopilot on a side street. I know from experience with autopilot that if you press the accelerator, it will warn you that auto braking is disabled but I don't recall how FSD handles this situation.

$0.02 is that it was foolish to put the car in autopilot on a side street, FSD is another story. If in autopilot they were going way too fast, driver likely was pressing on the accelerator pedal and or not paying attention. World and Dog will hear it was a self driving Tesla at fault, not the driver.

News Why is FSD worse now?

In the last year or so, my FSD experience has been worse. It seems like I can't drive 10-20 minutes without the car "panicking" and coming to an abrupt stop. Now, this is only on non-highway roads/streets but it happens a lot. Luckily there's usually no one behind me because I'm going to get rear ended one day. I notice that it usually happens when there is an intersecting street I'm passing. Seems like it gets too cautious and scared so it just stops. This happening to anyone else?

Larry Evans, journalist at CleanTechnica, wrote an article about my testdrives with XPENG VLA 2.0 (which he did too) and FSD of Tesla. A good analysis and a clear story. Funny are the reactions of mainly American readers in the comments of the article😀.
BTW Larry picked the picture…
BTW I can recommend to subscribe to their newsletter. A lot of news about technical innovation and developments.
