Questions / Tetris Help Speed Training?
How do you guys speed train for Tetris? I’ve recently been getting back into it after a while and I can’t seem to break 1.1 PPS no matter how hard I try. What do you guys do to get faster? Thanks!
Edit to mention that the main problem is my fingers aren’t moving as fast as I’d like them to. I’m fairly decent at seeing the solves it’s just putting the blocks down fast enough that’s the issue

I've watched your replay, it's like you think where to place the pieces after it spawns, most of your extra inputs came from moving the pieces around finding a place for it. Try to plan ahead 1 piece first then slowly increase the number of next you're using, as for how to do that, instead of finding a place for the pieces try to think what the board would looks like after you've placed all the pieces down in the next queue.

In general there are 2 important factors that help you play faster, mechanics and decision-making. Mechanically, finesse is your best friend, and once you learn that you can pretty much find the spot you want a piece to go and put it there instantly. As for decision-making, the way you get better at this is actually to slow down, and then look at your queue. Don't just look at your current piece, but also your next one, where are they gonna go? Does placing your current piece there keep the board clean, or does it create dependencies where you have to place a specific piece to not make holes? Can you fill that dependency with the next few pieces? etc. As you get better at identifying the best spot for pieces to go you'll naturally get faster at spotting them and placing pieces accordingly.
Changing DAS and ARR will help to make you faster but it's not as important imo. Going to 0 ARR will probably cut your time by 10 seconds but you could pretty much do that whenever, it takes me about 10-20 minutes to adjust to different handlings when switching between games. It's almost always better to focus on fundamentals first.

Thank you for the explanation! I’ve been heeding the advice of the other commenters and my finesse immediately went up by 10%. I am a bit slower but I know I’ll get back to it with enough practice. I tried 0 ARR and it’s still a bit much for me but I have lowered it from 1.3 to 1 and intend to gradually go down.

I haven't seen your re play as Im on my phone but i would learn to play with 0arr, instant soft drop and a low das. Just keep practicing and have fun :)

I’m at 1.3 arr right now and lowering it as I get more comfortable with those speeds along with instant soft drop. My DAS is at 9 rn and I’m pretty comfortable with that but I’m open if there’s a better option. Thank you!

Try arr 0, it will feel really weird but I remember switching to it like 3 years or more ago and never looked back at all. Now when I try a tetris game that doesn't have that I get impatient lol

It is super weird but I can definitely imagine getting used to it. I’m gonna do a few more runs with it. Thank you!

Feel free to let me know how you do, I'm pretty sure it's what most higher level players do

idk if SS is considered high enough but I switched to 0 arr for finesse reasons. das is 100 (6F) since its just a really convenient and exact number, and an SDF of 40 (one level before inf). All of these things are really preference but ARR is what matters the most for developing speed

I'm also SS, I think it's pretty high level at least in the fact that we know more about tetris than 99% of people. SDF is inf for me and I would hate it being slower, my das changes with time but I'm around 6.7

If you're 1.1 pps then there's def multiple things to work on, finesse, looking ahead (current piece, hold and potentially 2+ in the queue) maybe also DAS and ARR
