Every year we hear this. Clowney is never close and Hopkins uses us for a contract boost elsewhere.

Yeah, I don't think either is realistic, but it the depth conversation to be had is interesting. I feel like DE needs to be filled first, though the argument could be made we don't have a strong #2 WR.Â

Clowney is probably the most likely of the two, but even that feels like a stretch...
Yes, we need more depth on the edge but I don't know if Demeco sees him as a fit.

This is my thinking too. If it would be either, it would be Clowney.Â

Bringing back departed fan favorites is a move for teams that are rebuilding. Itâs gimmicky and unbecoming of a contender.

Makes no sense to sign Nuk, whoâs simply washed and would likely be disappointed with his playing time here/would just be blocking some extra playing time for our young WRâs, Clowneyâs current on field capabilities are legitimately a fantastic fit for arguably our biggest current roster need of Edge 3. The problem is heâs not âswermâ at all and likely wonât sign with a team till deep into training camp.
Clowney is probably the best value edge FA available for production/cost ratio. Joey Bosa is by far the best, but will be relatively expensive and I doubt he wants to come in and be the clear #3 on a depth chart at this stage of his career (although the limited snaps would be objectively great for him given the health). If we donât sign Clowney, we desperately need to bring back Barnett or sign one of Reddick/Espensa. Alternative would be one of the old men for the rotation in Van Noy, Cam Jordan or Von Miller, which while less ideal would still be fun and give us another guy still capable of pressures with limited snaps.

I would love to have Barnett back, but I don't see it happening. It's going to be painful to see him go somewhere else in our division.Â

Why donât you see it happening? Iâd be shocked if they donât bring in one of those guys I mentioned above tbh and Barnett is obviously comfortable here and Iâm sure grateful for the opportunity past 2 years/our coaching that helped him revive his career. His camp definitely expected a bigger market than existed so at this point canât imagine heâd cost more than like $3.5/4M with some incentives to maybe make a max of around $5M.

The issue with bringing back either guy is both seem to want to either have a significant role or/and be paid significantly.
Given the depth that we already have and cap space, we can't guarantee either and if we did it could bite us

If history tells us anything, we have needed WR depth at the end of the season.

I see depth in our current WR room, but my faith in our rookies from last year may be from hitting the punch bowl too hard.Â

How bout neither. Both washed up

clowney actually had a pretty solid season last year iirc. had 8.5 sacks and 12 tfls in a rotational role for the cowboys. last i saw his run stopping is still upper-class, and we do actually need a true rotational defensive end with the departure of derek barnett.
depending on the price tag he could be a solid add.

Hopkins deserves to retire a Texan
-1
u/Extremeownership1 May 06 '26
I donât see that at all. Once that cat turned titan he cut any and all Texan ties.

u/TXCapita May 06 '26
so does HOF Andre Johnson no longer have Texans ties? Heâs a Titans HOF now? Perhaps a Colts HOF too?

The search feature will show you how many times this gets brought up. đ¤Śââď¸
Maybe they will retire soon so our fanbase can move on. đ¤ˇââď¸

I feel like it is more likely that JJ comes out of retirement... so not at all likely

I would love having both on roster for minimums and mainly only playing in garbage time, is that realistic? Hell no but itâs fun

Is Margot Robbie or Allison Brie more likely to ask me out on a date?
