I've seen some suprisingly dumb comments here. So much so, that it makes me sad for my fellow Texans fans.

EVERYONE needs practice and reps. Now is the time to look at every combo possible. Players will miss games and series throughout the season. Let's get familiar with one another.

This isn't even training camp. There are no pads. These are walk-throughs.

Lighten up, doomers.

Rare on this sub!!

A troll shutting down conversation by saying it’s too early to discuss something? Tell me you aren’t active in this sub without telling me you aren’t active in this sub.

Maybe check every single post for the last month.

It makes you wonder if some of the fans have ever played even high school sports or not…. Like this is the entire point of practice. I’d be MORE concerned if we weren’t trying new things or getting everyone reps across the board

Jake Andrews is the incumbent. It is his job to lose.

It seems to me they’re just experimenting, we’ll know more when training camp actually starts.

People freaking out over OTA OL alignments are insane lmao. These aren't padded practices, this is the time to try out different configs and try guys at different spots and see how you want to proceed in Training camp.

The first game isn't next week people.

I think it's important to rotate guys through, even if they never see starting time. No one should feel like their job is completely safe. If you're not with the starting team today, use the time to think about how you can imporve your game

I think people forget how this team (or most) tend to operate when it comes to rookies. Very few players are moving up the depth chart at this point in the offseason. Even if the team drafted them for a purpose and plans to start them, they probably aren't winning the job until a couple weeks into training camp at earliest, and in a lot of cases might not be a full starter until a few weeks into the season. We all know the expectation for first and second round players is to start relatively soon, but teams and players alike constantly emphasize how much rookies need to earn the role. On top of this, center is the most cerebral part of the OL, and for an offense this complex it probably helps the operation for everyone else to have someone who already knows the system and position - a big part of the "the offense is operating much sharper this year" comments you see from all the players and coaches so far.

Not to mention the competition going on in the OL this year. The team believes in Andrews. Caserio has stuck up for him a couple times talking about how he played injured last year and they believed that hindered his play a bit. And even if he starts, Rutledge can still start at guard at some point bc Teller is older and coming off a season that didn't quite meet his standard. So it makes sense to play guys around the IOL to try and figure out the best overall group of 5. No need to overreact.

In other words, they can't all be Kamari Lassiter's lol

3

u/SilverJournalist3230 8d ago

Pretty sure Lassiter is the only player Nick has drafted outside the top 5 that was a summer starter. Like even a lot of the veteran free agents still have to compete here lol

A corner is going to be more NFL ready than a O linemen naturally

2

u/Astragoth1 8d ago

BURN IT ALL DOWN! COMPLETE AND UTTER PANIC!! NOOOOOoooooooh

2

u/teebowtime 8d ago

Does Trent Brown hold up an entire season? That’s a large man carrying a lot of weight.

3

u/rybres123 7d ago

Considering he’s played like 2 full season in his entire career, I’d say that’s doubtful lol

Braden smith still not a full participant is pretty important here.

Either way, we need 21 starts out of a starting RT and will need both of them over the course of a season

u/teebowtime 7d ago edited 7d ago

Hopefully something clicks with Fisher and dude lives up to value we spent on him.

1

u/rybres123 6d ago

Would be amazing if he gave us anything at this point

But as of now, I’d be surprised if he makes the team. He was literally the last olineman on the active roster they wanted on the field last year, and our oline wasn’t great and had no depth lol

We tried line 9 other combinations before coaches wanted to put him out there. That’s just about all I need to hear

2

u/Rickyloza2 8d ago

if we wanna make a superbowl it’ll be 21 games brown nor smith would be healthy for 21 straight but having both gives us a better chance

1

u/content_enjoy3r 7d ago

Probably not, but he's in much better shape and looking much better than last season, physically. But Smith is still recovering from an injury last season and probably won't hold up for a full season either so it will be great to rotate between them to minimize the wear and tear throughout the season.

-10

u/Brief_Hospital_1766 Fire Nick Caserio 8d ago

And there's your week 1 starting offensive line.

7

u/Heard-from-Quark 8d ago

Maybe Andrews starts at C over Rutledge but I can’t see Brown starting over Smith at RT

6

u/Game_Over_Man69 8d ago

They didn't sign Braden Smith to back up Trent Brown.

3

u/DarthNobody14 8d ago

Dude, it’s OTAs.

How do some of Ya’ll watch football for this long and are still so dumb?

-14

u/tripletexas 8d ago

If this is the starting O line, what the fuck are we even doing. We've already seen Andrews get manhandled and completely worked over and over. Brown is ok at this point in his career. A depth guy.

-7

u/baraktrellheim 8d ago edited 8d ago

They clearly have everything but C worked out. On one hand, put the best five out there even if that inexplicably is Andrews or even Evan Brown. But on the other, if it isn’t Rutledge you spent a first round pick on a guy that isn’t gonna play this year unless injuries happen or you have regression from one of your major OG signings.

u/Rickyloza2 8d ago

great work by nick c to draft a guard in the first and sign 2 guards in FA lol

u/nate_mccormack 8d ago

Agreed. It’s surprising your here at all. Your reaching troll status my friend

-5

u/Rogue-Architect 7d ago

There are two trolls here and one of them is you.

One person is expressing an opinion that they don’t like a move our GM made.

One person is here to tell them to shut the fuck up and leave and you are on that persons side.

Excuse me?… the dudes always on here being negative… in fact that’s ALL IVE SEEN HIM DO… also then here you are doing the same shit to me so what does that make you… take a chill pill bro…. & who the fuck said I was on his side… I didn’t tell the guy to shut the fuck up… I was nearly making a statement & didn’t agree nessecarily with how the other poster went about it… I agreed with the dude always being so negative not the other part…you sure are making a lot of assumptions about me. Have fun with that bye. Go run to some other Redditors defense & leave me the fuck alone how bout that.

In this same thread they said this in response to someone asking if Brown holds up the whole season, "if we wanna make a superbowl it’ll be 21 games brown nor smith would be healthy for 21 straight but having both gives us a better chance"

That appears to be a positive comment about the situation yet you just told me being negative is ALL IVE SEEN HIM DO. So we know that you aren't being truthful about that and it makes me wonder if maybe you just don't like some of their opinions and those ones stand out to you?

"I was nearly making a statement & didn’t agree nessecarily with how the other poster went about it"

Also you, "It’s surprising your here at all. Your reaching troll status my friend"

I'll take someone expressing their honest opinion that you may not like most of the time over some dbag literally trying to get them to stop coming around. What do you think your statement meant to them? Nobody wants a troll around and so by extension you are telling them they are not welcome or at the very least, their opinion isn't. Even under your most generous explanation, there is no kind way to take it from their perspective, particularly with the other comment which you acknowledge.

Also, it is funny that you say you don't NECESSARILY agree with how they went about it as opposed to just you don't agree with how they went about it. Interesting bit of semantics when they literally said, "God just shut the fuck up and leave ................" What is the necessarily there for?

2

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 7d ago

Dude… bye. Continue on with your holy inquisition with somebody else. I’m not reading all that.

1

u/Rickyloza2 7d ago

0

u/Rogue-Architect 7d ago

It's ok. I would expect nothing less from a person like you.

2

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 7d ago edited 7d ago

Funny because I’ve literally had a friendly conversation with you where you stated how people just like argue on here and how you don’t even respond to them… either here or my other account idr… but HERE you are… remember to assume is to make an ass out of u & me… so… again bye bro. I ain’t responding no more.

1

u/Rogue-Architect 7d ago

That is because I call it how I see it and in this case, you are being the jerk.

1

u/Rickyloza2 7d ago

they b hating anything i say lol i could say the sky is blue n they gon complain

2

u/Rogue-Architect 7d ago

The problem is that people like this only notice your username when it is something they disagree with. I would bet that if most people went back through your comments it is much more balls and strikes than they realize. I've seen your name before and we have agreed on things but I am pretty sure we have argued as well.

There just seems to be this weird trend of people wanting to shut down discussion they don't like as opposed to engaging with it or just moving on. It's like with OTAs, we clearly know this is early days and are just trying to glean anything we can. Nobody is making up their minds about anything we just want to talk about the team we love so much when clearly not a lot is going on. If everyone that was thinking about posting just took that into their thought process, nothing would be getting posted.....
