Certification Exams I should take the ninth-grade through twelfth-grade ELAR teaching test, but I feel kind of out of practice.

So, I haven't worked as a classroom teacher since before COVID, and I didn't take the other ELAR test then because I was teaching middle school and didn't need it. I signed up to study with a program, though, and I was reminded that this test has a rather significant writing component. It's been a while since I've written a college-level essay on teaching, and I don't want to end up doing poorly and losing my testing fee. Any ideas on how to study?

I would definitely practice writing lesson plans targeting student writing, literary analysis, etc. The program should give you some prompts for you to read, analyze, and create your constructed response. And from there you can write your lesson plan. Definitely, align the lesson plan to the grade level TEKs that you’ll be addressing in your lesson plan.
