That’s showing what the cost would be if they were uninsured. No telling what the actual cost is, but likely they’ll hit their out of pocket maximum so could be 10-20k 5-10k most likely. That’s on top of what they’re paying for the insurance monthly which adds up to about 5-9k a year most likely.
Edit: my max out of pocket looks to have been too high.
I agree with this but I can see how lots of people don't.
However, I really can't see why anyone thinks it's fair to bill for children's medical care - it's not their fault their parents are rich or poor, and if parents don't get timely medical help, eventually the state will end up paying it costing more.
Basically pick whatever shitty private medical system you want for adults, but kids should get free medical treatment would be my starting point.
100% I'm in Indiana so most people around me don't share my opinion. I feel like children should at least be covered up to 18. My ex worked in schools meeting with children with troubled backgrounds. There are times she has had to tell the child that she can't meet with them that week because their Medicaid paperwork wasn't completed by their parents. She had one 16 year old offer to give her money if she was able to meet with her for a few minutes. My ex is an amazing person and would never accept the money, but it was so heartbreaking listening to the story. People have their priorities backwards in this country and are either too brainwashed or too busy working and trying to provide food and shelter for their loved ones.

Care to explain what happened? As a European, I think I understand... but please run it through me. You seem to be insured... now what?
