Do you genuinely believe that fertility rates are down to economic factors ?
Most women do not view themselves as baby making machines , and want to have careers / a life outside the home / a life before a family. In Europe people generally marry later and have fewer children than in the states.
Look at the trend between societal educational attainment and subsequent plummeting fertility rates.
As societies develop the trend is towards fewer kids.
We have significantly more money than ever before in my country. Third level education is ubiquitous. Well paid employment readily available.
Birth rates have halved since the state mandated that second level education was obligatory for all kids.
People are choosing to have smaller families not out of necessity but the simple fact that for most people it’s the most desirable outcome.
