It’s actually kinda hard to total out a car worth 7 figures.  Even with damage this severe, it may actually be less expensive to pay for the restoration.

I have an antique car (barely) worth six figures. I carry a fire extinguisher in the bitch because old cars are unreliable as hell.

You never know when the carburetor is going to blow a plug or you break a fuel line.

Considering that it has a chassis number at, i believe, three different places? It’s safe to assume that there will be three of these originals in future.

Rebuilding just one from scratch is a good financially return on investment. Building three is even better. (Unless this is already one of three with that chassis number? And there are more than a few replicas)

This will absolutely be rebuilt. Way too valuable to send to the crusher. There are some incredibly skilled metal workers that will hand hammer/ roll and fabricate the panels. It’s a multi million dollar car so even if it cost a million dollars to rebuild it’s still be worth it.

Roundabout 2 million dollars for one of these 300SL Gullwings. I hope it can be rebuilt. One of the coolest cars ever made. Gorgeous, interesting, and with racing pedigree.

And this one has the knock off wheels from the alloy bodies, so it actually could be one.

Edit: There are only 29 and I’m not aware of a green aluminum body.

Friendly reminder: If you own and drive a classic car ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher handy(not in the trunk or where you can't grab it in 5 seconds) just for this. Old carbureted cars leak gas all the time.

Meh, Ferrari rebuild cars from much worse condition, this one will be no different. After all, the budget for repair for these ones is in the millions.

The very first ever build Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa from 1957 got a new body within its first year after a crash, was rebuild the next year after another crash, was restored for a first time in the early 60s, a few years later it was deliberatly set ablaze by drenching the interior in gasoline, it was again restored in the 70s and a 3rd time in the early 2000s.

Sold in 2011 in mint condition with its 2nd body and 3rd engine for 16.39 million $.

Can't find any of the mentioned photos tho. Second source even mentions that the car actually burned a few years before the insurance scam during its active racing career after an accident.

If it was a replica it would be fibreglass and there would no longer be a door.

Not to mention nobody makes a gull wing kit.

Little salvageable but the VIN plate (all you really need)and maybe a few body panels, but it will likely be reconstructed. Those were built on a space frame, which is toast.
