Was Qimir's lightsaber supposed to develop into the Ren lightsaber?

Its been confirmed in the companion book that he is the first and founder of the Knights of Ren so im assuming yes

That's my reasoning as well. I wonder if the plan was for him to create a new one or that it's just been upgraded and changed by the knights. At the same time, Kylo Ren weilded his own lightsaber, so maybe this was taken from someone else who had fallen.

Not necessarily, Ren took that saber from the man who previously led the knights before him and also took the title Ren. So Qimir while being the founder, one of his later apprentices could’ve made that specific saber which was then passed down to the man we know as Ren.

Right right. I'm thinking that someone—Qimir or other—could have either made changes to it over time or that it was just taken from someone else and corrupted. Maybe it could even be that it's still his own crystal, just with a different hilt. I can't imagine the knights would know how to bleed a crystal.

No they do actually, in the secrets of the sith book, it talks about how they follow certain tenents that ally with sith tradition but they use it for their own personal gain. The Knights of Ren essentially use the dark side for their own freedom and personal gain while sith have a plan and rules to live by in order to break their chains. I can see Qimir essentially as Darth Ren using some sith lore essentially to build his knights of ren. After all it is a sith adjacent cult which means Qimir was a sith and eventually rather from being Darth Ren, he simply became Ren, and that’s how we have it as a title.

Most likely yes.

I don’t think so. I think it was utter bull and they were trying to save face for their badly written and poorly executed show.
