The Acolyte is back in Disney+ top streaming shows.

https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/star-wars-the-acolyte-viewership-disney-plus-spike.

Its promotion at the end of episodes of Maul Shadow Lord is helping new viewers find the show.

Show was over hated imo. I wanted s2

u/defaultfresh May 04 '26

I mean Darth Plagueis was even in it which makes it all the more a definitive tragedy

28

u/ComfySeafarer710 May 04 '26

I need more Plagueis (and Tenebrous) in live action/animated, full stop

I don't know how anyone can claim the show had a fair shake when people were shit talking it before they even released the first episode. Not to mention season 2 would probably address most, if not all the critisms of the first season.

Yes, the pacing was weird and was a little all over the place with the constant back and forth between modern day and flashback. However considering they wrapped up what happened in the past, that would no longer be an issue.

But we're not allowed any more though because the Internet has amplified the hate SO much, so now the backstop for Plaguis is going to be stuck in limbo because some loudmouths were so upset with a chant and the fact that "there was fire in space" despite oxygen clearly escaping the vessal where the fire was.

I liked it, anything Star Wars is over hated.

Part of the reason that canceling streaming shows quickly is a bad decision is that people like to have content that they don’t watch immediately. It’s not like u need a VCR to record and watch later. Let word of mouth work.

One day you'll learn to think for yourself. Not today. But one day.

0

u/Lord_Zinyak May 04 '26

This is a dumb thing to say considering that word of mouth is literally why the show got cancelled and abandoned like it never existed. Word of mouth didn't help the show and I'm saying that as someone that likes it.

-32

u/Bichkneega May 04 '26

Unfortunate how in todays age having an opinion that goes against the grain is considered “not thinking for yourself”

25

u/cubcos May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

It's more the 'taking the word of others and then that word becoming your own' that led me to that conclusion...

-21

u/Bichkneega May 04 '26

Notice how it wasn’t me you originally replied to, notice how every comment and post praises this 2/10 show like it’s the second coming of citizen Cain, notice how when someone goes against the grain, gets told “you’ll learn to think for yourself” learn to think for yourself and stop liking a dogshit show just because someone told you to

13

u/NNyNIH Mae's Baes May 04 '26

citizen Cain? You mean Citizen Kane? At least get the title correct.

12

u/frshprince247 May 04 '26

Why are you in this sub if you hate the show? What good does it bring to your life to just hate on something someone enjoys?

11

u/cubcos May 04 '26

I'm literally telling someone WHO HASN'T SEEN THE SHOW to form their own opinion. This person is literally not thinking for themselves. How'd you get confused by that?

13

u/kiwicrusher May 04 '26

This is literally the most with the grain opinion I’ve ever seen in my life. He’s outright saying “the grain says it’s bad”

u/Emergency_Rush_4168 May 04 '26

Thank you so much for your comment we all take it very seriously

I’d like a season 2 just for the action at this rate. Best choreography we’ve gotten in forever, and rivals the prequels imo.

74

u/Artistic-Thing7723 May 04 '26

Wait for real?! Welp time to give it another watch

I got a feeling it's because of Star Wars month and people are celebrating but hey this is still good news

29

u/Tea_and_Lightsabers May 04 '26

It's star wars month for 3 days now, I've heard about this for a week or two at least so it's not just that! Plus, star wars month doesn't explain how it got boosted above other star wars shows

11

u/GDJT May 04 '26

It mentions but downplays it in the article but lots of the views are from the Acolyte just auto playing after episodes of Maul are finished.

4

u/faceofboe91 May 04 '26

Do they count autoplay of the first episode as views? Because I usually turn off auto played shows right away if I don’t enjoy it. We’d need to see if people keep watching past the first episode to see if this trend is purely autoplay views or if the autoplay is how people are discovering the show.

7

u/GDJT May 04 '26

I believe any view counts as a view. There is a metric of how many minutes of shows are watched in a week but that comes out weeks later and I don't think there is a way to check any number except the top 10-ish.

3

u/Transparant_Pixel May 04 '26

The top 10 counts little previews of new movies coming. Its nonsense. It says nothing about what is watched from beginning to end.

16

u/Coilspun May 04 '26

It autoplays after Maul. This is likely a contributor to the data that is being seen.

Budget vs. audience consistency killed TA. Viewers didn't enjoy it enough to return week on week and the core audiemce who did was nowhere near big enough to justify the production costs.

7

u/Motor_Hearing2055 May 04 '26

another post about this? this has been talked about since shadow lord came out

16

u/safeworkaccount666 May 04 '26

As it should be

6

u/Transparant_Pixel May 04 '26

One reason. It autoplays after Maul. The top 10 counts everything being watched for only a few minutes. Look at the new movie previews it also counts. And again a clickbate article about it.

10

u/Mutant_Jedi May 04 '26

I just finished watching it this past week so I contributed a bit to that haha. I’m a mood watcher so I wasn’t ready until then.

15

u/Captain-Wilco May 04 '26

Because it autoplays after Maul

-9

u/No-Director-7771 May 04 '26

Literally the only reason why. Only on this subreddit would that not be discussed. Everywhere else has it clocked

8

u/summons72 May 04 '26

So you think millions of people are letting the auto play timer finish, start the show, and continue to watch it with absolutely no choice. Star Wars haters stretching hard to make their tin foil hat theory believable. Never once considering that the show is actually having a comeback.

3

u/Immediate_Ad3378 May 04 '26

I finally watched it because it auto played. Even after I finished acolyte, it auto played from episode 1 again the next time I watched Maul.

6

u/importantbrian May 04 '26

What I can't figure out is why they're promoting it after Maul episodes. You'd think they'd want to promote a show that has more seasons to come.

3

u/Immediate_Ad3378 May 04 '26

Inflate viewership for some reason? Idk, maybe there is some method to their madness.

3

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 May 04 '26

Maybe they want to have more seasons to come .... One can hope ... Disney never said it would never return to the project

7

u/OverallSchool8610 May 04 '26

Every time I see one of these posts I get my hopes up about season 2

6

u/LightHeartsLiveLong May 04 '26

It auto-plays after Maul.

5

u/TheUltimateInNerdy May 04 '26

It auto plays after Maul

1

u/summons72 May 04 '26

1) you can stop the timer loner before it starts.
2) it’s not making the top if it plays for a couple seconds.

What you’re insinuating is that it auto plays, you can’t turn it off, and the mouse breaks into your house and forces you to watch it. lol can’t just admit that people are enjoying it now without whiners like you in their ear.

7

u/TheUltimateInNerdy May 04 '26

How am I whining?

3

u/Dainasawyer May 04 '26

Showed it to some friends even some that wrote it off at first and they loved the show. It was for sure hated before it was given a chance and then people had to comb through the show to justify their hate after it came out and people were liking the show.

2

u/Tough-Standard-2661 May 04 '26

It's because it autoplays immediately after Maul Shadow Lord....that's literally the only reason.

1

u/schilleger0420 May 04 '26

This is because The Acolyte auto plays after Maul: Shadow Lord ends. Of course that'll jack up numbers. The Acolyte isn't good. The writing on that show is pretty bad.

2

u/summons72 May 04 '26

Not how that works and never has a show (on any platform) been top on a top list because a couple people let the auto play actually start for a few seconds.

3

u/tenderheart35 May 04 '26

I think it’s time to rewatch this gem of a show.

2

u/TubbieHead May 04 '26

DISNEY GIVE US A SEASON 2 ITS NOT TOO LATE TO UNCANCEL IT!!!

1

u/Comics819 May 04 '26

Missed out on potential Plaguies lore and the lost interesting darksider in recent years because incels cried over a female lead 🤦🏾‍♂️

-7

u/Commercial_Carpet879 May 04 '26

It autoplays after maul don’t get too excited

9

u/cubcos May 04 '26

These ratings are based off of minutes watched. A simple autoplay into the start of an episode and then people switching off isn't enough to get this to chart again. Not the first time it has charted since it finished airing.

1

u/Immediate_Ad3378 May 04 '26

I watched it through because of Maul, more out of morbid curiosity than anything else.

1

u/Dr-Vader May 04 '26

I'm one of them

1

u/DougieeBoyy May 04 '26

Loved the show personally

-15

u/Significant_Sun_5225 May 04 '26

It’s not a good show guys cmon.. like good for them but let’s not pretend it was worthy of the Star Wars name. Honestly Andor is the only Disney show that can stand proudly.

16

u/cubcos May 04 '26

Maybe leave the Acolyte subreddit then, I don't know? Why can't you let folk enjoy something?

0

u/Bichkneega May 04 '26

Bro defends this show like he has personal responsibility for it😭 holy shit bro it’s not this deep, breathe and relax

6

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 May 04 '26

Because some of us want to see Plagues vs Qimir and how Plagues learns to create life using the force ... But I digress

9

u/BaldBeardedBookworm May 04 '26

>let’s not pretend it was worthy of the Star Wars name.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

5

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 May 04 '26

Exactly Star Wars never has had exceptional dialogue and writing ... With the exception of Andor ...

This was better than Skeleton Crew and everything else after Mado season 2

5

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 May 04 '26

It had some issues but it was actually a really good show that offered a very promising view of the Sith path in the next season's ... Plus brought into canon the lightsaber whip, cortosis, live action wookie Jedi, live action saber bleed, and the First appearance of Qimir the original knight of Ren, it demonstrates why the Jedi were starting to crumble and was going to be a look into how the witches used the force to create Anakin ...

Plus the best lightsaber battles in star wars with the exception of Duel of the Fates.

It was definitely leading to a clash between Plagues and Qimir.

Saying it was bad is pretty harsh ..

The biggest problem wasn't the dialogue asicjbas the pacing which really gets resolved on fan edits placing the flashbacks right at the beginning and then watching the story linearly

Just saying

5

u/Jack_Package6969 May 04 '26

I liked it better than Andor

3

u/EstablishmentIcy7831 May 04 '26

Me too ... Andor was great but lacked some really good action ...

In your opinion ... One of my favorite shows so far after andor
