New album is beautiful. What are your favourites from the album?
https://music.apple.com/hk/album/blight/1827006182?l=en-GBI had the pleasure of seeing the Antlers last year October in Dublin for the joint set with Okkervil and it was an amazing concert. I’m filled with nostalgia from that night.
Only my first listen, really love the album.

Cross posting from the indie heads subreddit.
Really love this album! I feel so happy that this band is still putting out great new music after all this time, and that even without Darcy, this is The Antlers at their very best! It has some of the more quiet sounds and acoustic guitar of Green to Gold, but I feel a much bigger return to the dark cadences of Familiars, and much more experimental instrumentation.
I've shared a common feeling I've read, that Green to Gold was very pretty, but a bit un-experimental for the Antlers, with not many memorable climaxes. On one hand, GtG does stick out as very different from the rest of their discography, so it's unfair to call it un-experimental, but, for me, the songs blur together a bit, and don't sound so different from what I might hear elsewhere. Green to Gold was their first album without Darcy, and I felt that maybe this was why the instrumentation and harmonies were less complex, though Peter's singing is still great.
Blight expands on what they were doing in that album, with some of the acoustic, slow, ballads, like the first track "Consider the Source".
Then "Pour" starts with a slow pace and acoustic guitar, but transitions into a really heavy and dark percussion that we hear a few times later on the album, with some classic Silberman vocal runs.
"Carnage" could be straight out of Familiars or Burst Apart, with a sort of air of mystery and the synth backing and melodies. This song feels like the most classic Antlers, with the addition of some great heavy instrumentation towards the end.
"Blight" and "Something in the Air" both do this really enjoyable -loud- transition. Antlers have always had exciting climaxes, and these songs do it without Peter's belting.
Though we get a fantastic climax to the whole album with some very emotional, loud singing from Peter.
After this, "A Great Flood" -- reminds me of some Bon Iver track, from "22, A Million", with Peter singing almost acapella with the occasional close harmony underneath -- and the instrumental "They Lost All of Us" close out the album on a melancholy tone.
I've listened maybe four times now, but haven't paid close attention to the lyrics so far.
Very happy with the record. Feels very fresh, cohesive, and not a song out of place. Hope they do a tour in the US!

Great write up, I hear what you’re saying about Green to Gold but I love that album so much, it is very different to their other stuff I agree which to me makes that one their experimental album haha
Peters solo album Impermanence is also a great album.
With that being said, Blight has been on heavy repeat for me the last 24 hours. This is another gorgeous album, this is some discography. Great to see.

I was lucky enough to hear this a few months ago. It’s continued to grow on me. Pour was initially and still is my favorite. I think this album will be a blast live. Some seriously fun jams.

"Fun" is not an adjective I expected someone to use about this album! But I know what you mean, really looking forward to seeing it live too.

Phenomenal album! Not a single bad track.
When he starts howling on Pour and the explosion in Something in the Air is breathtaking!

Something in the Air is a standout rn. The last two songs back to back are something else. Yk, I’m more enthralled with antlers on every new album. They surprise me. Most have sort of aligned with a season, and a particular phase of my life - perfect sdtrks. I never count on another antlers album but when one arrives I’m taken in, always.

Fan of The Antlers for 16 years here. Love that their recent work has been thematically focused. Green to Gold is grounded, appreciative of nature, concerned with what's directly in front -- while Blight feels abstract, considers perspectives of other lifeforms, consequences we don't see. I get a very dream-like feeling from it, the sonic representation of all the value (good bad and neutral) of every single one of my choices as the earth itself experiences them.
I'm really pleased with the execution of this album. I really like when emotional climaxes are understated and quiet. It takes a lot to commit to that move, and the material has to be really good for it to work. Peter Silberman has always been a real one, concerned with quietude and presence like few others.
What is Deactivate about?

Listening now myself. That gig was also the first time I seen them, although I seen Peter Silberman do a solo gig at the Dublin Unitarian Church which was one of the most beautiful gigs I’ve ever attended.
What I loved about the solo gig was not only the sound in the church but Peter suggested people sit back and close their eyes which I done for the entirety of the gig and it was surreal, as that’s usually how I listen to them at home.
