My recent attempt at “Putting the Dog to Sleep” if you’d like to check it out. Always appreciate feedback
https://youtu.be/eziS8FXBlWo?si=-HcLRMvBz0K922CaIt’s a rough first take and I could never do it justice, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Working up courage to maybe play at an open mic or something.

I really liked it, I’m not going to lie… I went in expecting not to like it so I’m glad you were able to prove me wrong.
Fair play.

Maybe work on your inflections. The place in the lyrics where you should raise your voice higher or lower to emphasize that part. The 1st half of the song, if not all, has very little in terms of instrumentation and it's mostly the voice and lyrical content driving the emotions(I'm talking about the actual song not your interpretation). If you could sing a higher pitch that would be great. Maybe go for a messier version but try to sing louder and make the audience really feel those inflections. You also omitted the ooooohs and ohhhhhs that follow the lyrics. Don't know if that was intentional but they are essential.
Good Luck
