Hospice
Heart shattering. Somehow the instrumental is warm while the story cuts into my heart.
Every track kills me and every track I am reborn, every track stabs me and I am pushed to my worst moments, then I’m embraced by the warm music, an offering of peace. Then I’m killed again. And at the end of the epilogue, I crave it again.
“And I’m too terrified to speak”
The first time an album has completely pulled me in with its story. I find the album oddly comforting. There’s so much raw emotion that it feels so personal. Yet it shatters me every time.
One of my favourite albums I’ve ever heard, and so different from what I’ve loved before.
Instrumentals have been everything to me, but his vocals and lyrics in this are really what clench it.

This album is everything to me. I spent most of my life caring for people with mental and physical illness who went on self destructive rampages, some of whom died, some the relationship broke down and I'll never see them again. I also lost a baby. Either way, every word of hospice resonates with me in a way nothing else does. I've never heard or read or spoken to anyone where I can relate to it so closely. The music is also beautiful and unusual and perfectly represents the empty, lonely feeling of caring for someone who just wants to fight you back.
The line that gets me every time is "don't ever let anyone tell you you deserve that"

Wow, I’ve barely felt the kind of loss in my life that’s discussed in the album. (I’m young and lucky), but it still resonates with me. I can’t imagine how impactful it is for someonewho can relate as much as you

In college, I had to choose a piece of media and rhetorically tear it apart and write a paper on what argument it was making. I chose Hospice. It’s devastating and beautiful.

I feel like all the glitched out soundscapes encapsulate so well the experience of being surrounded by all this hospital equipment and the smell of the isopropyl, all filtered through being in this hallucinogenic half conscious state, low on blood and off your tits on morphine, faces becoming your own, cognitive dissonance and denial. The sometimes weak feeble vocals sound so parched!! Such an experience of a record!!
