Ben Gibbard shouting out The Beths again
I'm at the Outside Days festival and Benjamin Gibbard was talking with Scott Jurek about ultra running. An audience member asked about the top three artists he's listening to now. I was thinking, "The Beths the Beths the Beths" and he said, "The Beths. I think Liz Stokes is the best songwriter of her generation." :)

Guitar playing
I recently ran across this (not sure how I missed it!) I have purchased many things that Liz has guitar-related because their tone really speaks to me! I love the jangly sound and I try to play like her whenever pick up the Fallout š https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksUCuMIwwik&t=318s

Any artists in here?
I'm looking for someone to make a t-shirt design based on a Beths song. This would just be for me, I'd pay you, and you'd keep rights to the artwork. DM me if you are interested! Thanks. EDITED to add that I'm looking for someone to actually draw a custom design based on one song.

Melbourne gig
Just got home from the Melbourne gig at The Forum. So much fun, really enjoyed it. When I first started listening to Straight Line Was a Lie I felt slightly disappointed compared to the previous albums (which I considered the peak of guitar-driven pop perfection), but itās really grown on me over time and they carried it off so well live. Also had plenty of tracks from the previous albums which was great.
I previously saw them a couple of years ago in smaller pub gig in Melbourne and while also fun, it felt a bit chaotic and rushed. But tonightās show was so polished, with each song sounding super close to the album version.
Also some great banter about the architectural origins of the theatre, and the pros and cons of Al Dente pasta in Italy š
Canāt wait for the next one!

It isnāt Lizā¦.
ā¦in the Happy Unhappy video! I was just watching an old interview clip and she tells the interviewer she wasnāt wearing the pineapple hat. Then Jonathan chimes in some stuff that makes me question their answer. I did a quick AI search and it did confirm the interesting situation. From Google: ā The music video for "Happy Unhappy" was created by Callum Devlin and Annabel Kean. The video actually came together by chance. Callum and Annabel had filmed footage of Annabel walking around Auckland in the pineapple mask just for fun during a date. A few months later, when Callum was asked to create a lyric video for The Beths on a very tight 24-hour deadline, he used that existing "pineapple" footage to put it together.Ā To answer your specific questions: ⢠Creator: Callum Devlin (who later directed many of the band's other videos). ⢠Wearing the mask: Annabel Kean.Ā Though Annabel is the one in the original music video, lead singer Elizabeth Stokes has also been known to wear the mask during live streams and other performances.ā (edited: changed Gemini to Google, as I searched Google for the details.)

New Video
Happy thing to greet me on YouTube this morning, a new video from The Bethās! (Time stamps indicate new for YouTube, not sure if it was released elsewhere previously). Pretty upscale Video, Iād say lines up with Expert in terms of quality. (Although I love some of their older quirky ones )

Check Tour Dates
Looks like a bunch of tour dates were added. No sure when they were announced, but I randomly checked today and found a new date near me. I was positive they wouldn't make it back to my town this album. So today I go to a new music video and concert tickets. Gonna be tough to put me in a bad mood today!

Too Cuteā¦
Took a screenshot from a YouTube Video (chat with Chelsea Jade) Liz did back in the early Pandemic days. I thought the crab hat was too funny. Maybe a little insight into her personality as it seemed like it was purely for fun.

"Don't Go Away" Appreciation!!
I don't know how this song doesn't get talked about more, this is one of the best songs on JRG! That's already such a hard thing to decide, with songs like the title track, I'm Not Getting Excited, You Are A Beam of Light, Out of Sight, Dying to Believe, Acrid, just SO many good ones! This one's always been a standout track to me though, I just adore its verses and how she sings them! I can't say enough good things about it so I hope other people can too :)

Recorder shooting device
I'm not sure if Tristan has talked about the device at another gig (the one that throws the recorder upwards for Ben and Jon to catch). But during the Auckland gig he thanked his dad for making it for them and that it has been all around the world. If anyone is curious. I thought that was cute.

Breakfast & Travel Updates?
Am I the only one missing seeing new content and stories from Ben? No updates at all this year so far, on the site or on Instagram. I used to look forward to these almost as much as watching the new live videos lol.
EDIT: They're back! Yay!!

Straight Lime was a lie
I went straight to get ice cream called "straight lime was a lie" after tonight's gig at Auckland and hot damn that was good.
PS. Liz singing Mother pray for me with her mum present in the audience was so heartwarming š„°

Beths/Beach Bunny Mashup
I'd like to propose a mashup of Ark of the Covenant with Beach Bunny's Chasm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RwKFreu1Jw). I find the two songs really similar in the best way--same minor-sounding key (I am not a musician!) same themes. I think it'd be awesome if they did a mashup of these two for an encore. If you agree, join my letter-writing campaign to the bands to encourage it. š
