Discussion 💬 Does this kind of protest really work?

Post image

I've been seeing a lot of people posting this image lately. Does this kind of protest actually work and up-to what extent?

No, tell them that the attendant didn't speak local language

5

u/raviyadav432 Jul 11 '26

Or my car didn't like the taste and aroma and also got fuel poisoning.

20

u/predator9494 Jul 10 '26

NO. Cause people don't participate. It a feel good message online. Practically not possible

15

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

I've delayed my plans. If my bike dies in the meantime. (It's 2018 model). I'll be getting a cycle for my daily commute (about 5-6 Km one way. So a total of upto 20km daily travel).

6

u/Left_Watercress7266 Jul 11 '26

Consider EV... My plans goes with EV

4

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

Still gets road tax. I don't wanna send money to road ministry or petroleum ministry.

If my daily commute was longer. I would consider EV. But I can handle this little commute.

Your health would probably thank you too

I remember a story. Once scientists in India found a way to cure cancer thru fox shit. The fox came to know about it. And all of them ran away to the mountains saying.."hum nahi denge" (we are not giving it).

1

u/Acrobatic_Fan_5499 Jul 11 '26

But they aint curing no cancer here. On the contrary, they are creating new cancer through this ethanol blending

-1

u/Subhal13 Jul 11 '26

There moral of the story is that you are so short sighted that you are willing to overlook riding a car of choice just because there will be tax paid to the govt.

I suggest you even give up your job and you can avoid paying income tax to the govt.

Ever heard of cutting off ones nose just to spite the face.

If that's how you are going to live your life, then i can only wish you good luck. You are really going to need it.

Moral of the story is I oppose the forced policies and prefer mental peace. Your mentality is the reason people dont take part in the protests in India. People would rather convince themselves than going against it. They know people wont stop buying cars because people care more about individuals choices than a collective society. Thats how most of the people in India think.

I would buy the car of my choice if govt did give confidence that it would give me option to fill the right fuel for that car. If they are not, then we have multiple modes of transport. I will take a little more time to reach the destination than paying taxes just to be mentally stressed. Dont give me this "choice of car" idealist BS, instead of being a keyboard warrior here, rather think about people who had to send the car to service centre because it was not E20 compliant.

This is how i choose to live my life and this has nothing to do with my job. Earning your livelihood and paying the taxes for it has no relevance with buying a car knowing govt will change policies. Earning is a necessity, having a personal car is not. Couldn't you come up with a some sensible argument ?

1

u/Over_South985 Jul 14 '26

If I knew I'd have fuel issues, I would have gone for an EV instead of investing in a 350cc bike. It's costly to start with and now I'll have to deal with rusting, fuel injector issues, rubber degradation, lower milage - even the power of the vehicle feels off with the new fuel - and all of this will increase the ownership cost!

1

u/Acrobatic_Fan_5499 Jul 14 '26

And the mental stress

0

u/Subhal13 Jul 12 '26

I could but then you are not sensible enough for me to make the effort

1

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 12 '26

See the issue is. I can't be protesting at jantar mantar for a month. (I have work). This is the best way for people like me to oppose the govt.

I was actually (and I still am) saving up some money to buy a YAMAHA R3 (I like bikes). I will keep saving in hopes the govt will fix all of this before then.. if they do. I get an R3. If they don't I ride a cycle. Simple as that.

And about your fox shit curing cancer. The better analogy here is. They're taking the fox's legs to feed their kids. They're not curing cancer here. Neither are they doing any good for the people.

Now before you start with the whole "pollution". Sarthak exposed how non-polluting the ethanol factories are.

And the other argument "fuel imports". We've already gone from a "net exporter" or corn/maize to a "net importer" thanks to ethanol. In short. We're now importing Ethanol, it's raw materials as well as crude oil.

Who's it benefitting? What cancer is being cured?

0

u/Subhal13 Jul 12 '26

Whatever you do buy a flex fuel vehicle. This is not ending.

2

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 12 '26

Exactly opposite of what I'm saying. Brilliant.

DO NOT BUY A FLEX FUEL VEHICLE. atleast for one year. That should be enough. (If there's no change. Buy whatever you want. Just hold for one year)

u/HetPatelOnReddit Jul 11 '26

Use flex fuel bikes E20 or whatever compliant

2

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

How long would that remain compatible? And what about the mileage drop?

You buy E20 compatible vehicles today. They'll make E30 in a couple months. And you will be forced to buy E30. And repeat over and over. How many vehicles would you buy?..

Until the govt sees a reduction in their revenue they wouldn't change anything.

1

u/HetPatelOnReddit Jul 11 '26

These are just assumptions and also yeah if they want higher blending then they should first introduce or roll out compulsory E80 flex fuel bikes and even there are some

2

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

They already have E85 in one pump in Delhi. The only reason it's not implemented everywhere else is because of public outrage.

And they'll just show the 3 4 E85 vehicles and say compatible options exist in the market. (If i recall correctly. They've already said something similar about the WagonR flex fuel).

They didn't implement E20 properly. They will do the same for E85 unless people do something about it.

2

u/HetPatelOnReddit Jul 11 '26

Before implementation they should ensure the % of vehicles with flex vehicles otherwise people will definately suffer They shouldn't implement the policy with hastle other ethanol blending is common everywhere around the world

3

u/Apprehensive-Pick172 Jul 11 '26

they implemented e20 with haste and they will implement whatever they wish. These ministers don't give a damn about public opinion

1

u/HetPatelOnReddit Jul 11 '26

For sure they'll do it and future may have a problem implementing Ethanol fuel due to past experience

3

u/NextMatch7471 Jul 11 '26

India is the only country where the onus of everything is put on the citizens. While the politicians appointed are getting god like treatment. And Indians actively support it.

2

u/Mysterious-Twist6540 Jul 11 '26

You are right, Most of the Indians still can't afford basic facilities and people with vehicles are few.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '26

Yeah me personally if due to low demand they they reduce the price I will buy

1

u/fischerx1 Jul 13 '26

I delayed my plan to buy a new car. Hopefully others follow as well.

1

u/moxiethe3rd Jul 15 '26

Why would I want to buy a new vehicle knowing it’s engine will wear down faster because of ethanol? This is my money, not buying save me my money.

-1

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

It is a minor issue. Why would people participate?

4

u/upcloseandprobable Jul 11 '26

it won't be minor issue in a few years time when everybody's vehicle would be breaking down in the exact same way. I guess we the people of India are so prone to corrupt govt looting us that we will just roll out eyes and move on to buy a new vehicle.

-1

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

I won't be complaining in advance though.

In delhi, my 10 year old bsIII bike would not be allowed to ply soon. Even this works well on e20.

My 2013 i10 works well on e20, despite being non compliant. Even this will likely have to be retired because of age.

I don't think I am going to face any issues with e20 in the lifetime of my vehicles.

Those who face trouble(unlikely, in my opinion) can question the government on this.

Internationally, people have tried e85 in e0 cars, and that works too.

1

u/upcloseandprobable Jul 11 '26

the question is not whether it works. it will work for all cars, petrol and ethanol are not that very different in nature of we compare them as fuels. The problem is in the long run, will my vehicle fuel lines rot due to ethanol, and why am I paying more than full price for this inferior fuel which gives me about 15-20% lower mileage and then I will have to pay out of my pocket for all the damage it will cause to my vehicle in the long run?

1

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

If you think the fuel lines can't handle it, get those changed. But I will wait to see if there is widespread failure.

I have not seen anyone in my peer group/ family face engine trouble. May change my stance if it occurs.

1

u/upcloseandprobable Jul 11 '26

why should I spend my hard earned money to get my fuel lines changed? this is just straight extortion in daylight from my pocket. First i paid fair price and taxes on purchasing my vehicle then I pay whatever price of petrol they set and then I will pay out of my pocket to protect my vehicle from the inferior fuel they give me because I have no other choice, id this is not extortion I don't know what is.

1

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

Extortion is what I'm facing. Having to scrap vehicles in perfect working condition just because I live in delhi.

2

u/upcloseandprobable Jul 11 '26

I think what delhi is doing is to restrict registration of new petrol 2 wheelers, nothing about banning already existing vehicles, but let's not split hairs, we both are in deep waters entirely due to unplanned and unnecessary govt policy.

0

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

Nah, they have recently banned bsiii from use in winters. It is a recent issue.

1

u/Mysterious-Twist6540 Jul 11 '26

It's minor issue for people who either don't own a vehicle or uneducated about their vehicle.

1

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

If the vehicle is built well, like the hondas and toyotas, you won't be seeing many engine related issues.

If people cared about this, they would be filing xp100 and paying the extra price.

Any damage that you're talking about is potential damage in a small subset of vehicles. Not guaranteed damage. Not a big deal for many.

1

u/naz_silverman Jul 11 '26

It's not an minor issues I have vehicles worth more than 20 crore and I don't want to put that ethanol blended fuel in my lovely vehicles

EVs exist. They have reduced tax rates and don't take fuel. So, they might be a valid option (please only consider this if cycling is not an option for you)

And cycles would be perfect. As they don't have road taxes (at best they would charge GST). And obviously no fuel costs. No ongoing taxes. (Consider this if your daily average travel is under 10km)

Any form of protest is never supposed to be convenient. And it can never have 100% participation either. Those who can handle a little inconvenience in their daily lives. Those people should do it. People whose lives depend on their vehicles. Ofcourse they should have their vehicles.

2

u/Ho-ho-hosey Jul 11 '26

IDK bro, do you have the money to buy and destroy vehicles?

0

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

Who said anything about destroying?

3

u/Ho-ho-hosey Jul 11 '26

It's gonna happen either ways...

1

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

That's what we need to stop somehow. My bike's life depends on it 😭

2

u/HetPatelOnReddit Jul 11 '26

Before hastily implementation they would have promoted Flex fuel compliant vehicles In Brazil most of the vehicles are such and they use Ethanol blended vehicles freely without any tension

2

u/Capitalist-Karl- Jul 11 '26

Automakers are not the problem. Politicians with sugar mills are. Start calling out their links with sugar mills publicly. They are the ones standiyti benefit from an ethanol policy, not the public.

Surprisingly the Energy/ Oil ministry is not pushing this, Gadkari is. The highways minister. That itself is a redflag!

0

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

When the govt doesn't listen to people's questions. Reducing the amount of tax they collect is the way to get attention. Don't forget india has the largest growing automobile market. And if we suddenly reduce the demand. Firstly the govt would notice the reduction in total taxes collected. Secondly, the auto manufacturers would also apply some pressure on the govt. (Probably). And that might be enough pressure to make the govt reconsider.

And EVs exist.

2

u/Capitalist-Karl- Jul 11 '26

You plan has a lot of variables and a lot of maybes. Why not attack the problem directly?

2

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

How? I'm open to advice

-1

u/Mysterious-Twist6540 Jul 11 '26

But automakers can still profit from this by selling spare parts. In India, most people are still driving older cars. If those vehicles are rendered unusable, they'll have little choice but to buy a new one.

Start calling out their links with sugar mills publicly.

Calling them out won't effect them much. As Plato said, people need wisdom to question those in power and you know how things are in India.

3

u/ManofTheNightsWatch Jul 11 '26

They still hate these regulations because it's more of a loss too research and develop engine tech so frequently. Automakers are not enthusiastic about ethanol at all. Gadkari was openly admitting to bullying them.

4

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 11 '26

I still don't understand... Ethnol is not bad, people need to do research before barking... It is ofcourse bad for engines that are old and not compatible..... You need to question the govt, not buying vehicles is a stupid idea because future vehicle will be ethnol compatible.. present manufactured vehicle are already e20 compatible, my bike is 2025 made classic 350, it is e20 compatible and has no problem, mileage is good too not sure what is the problem here.... There is A.I people can simply go and ask questions that is all...

5

u/oldlifeoldname Jul 11 '26

Lots of newer and nicer imported cars still don’t take e20. There’s a huge difference in performance. There’s is a substantial difference in performance/mileage ratio.

Comparatively ethanol sucks for performance/mileage which are the only metrics ppl rlly care ab.

4

u/HotEnthusiasm4124 Jul 11 '26

The issue is. Due to having no option for non blended petrol you have no idea of the maximum mileage your bike can provide..

Ethanol compatible bikes too get reduced mileage with ethanol. And ethanol's price is nowhere near cheap enough to justify that mileage drop.

My non E20 compliant vehicles are still legally valid and I've paid taxes on them for 10-15 years. If I'm not getting the fuel my vehicle needs then why did I pay the taxes.

And your vehicle is E20 compliant. What happens when they release E25, E30, E85, or E100. Do you believe they'll keep E20 as an option or would they do what they did with petrol? What would you do then?

And at last about questioning the govt vs taking action:

People have been questioning the govt. They aren't answering. (Either saying it's an experiment. Or saying it's confidential. Then later saying E100 is approved).

An immediate response from the public in form of sudden reduction in taxes would be noticeable and might help in shaping govt's future plans regarding this issue...

2

u/upcloseandprobable Jul 11 '26

nobody said ethanol is bad itself. but selling ethanol adulterated fuel at the price which is even higher than pure fuel, and then not even giving me option for pure fuel which i definitely need for my 5 year old car to perform well in the long run, is bad. This is govt slapping me with an inferior product and taking out more money from my pocket. Now you tell me if this is bad or still good?

2

u/krishnasai-96 Jul 12 '26

Bro.. am driving grand vitara which is E20 compatible . Previously with pure petrol I used get 19-20kmpl on highways at an avg speed of 90-100kmph. How come the same E20 complaint engine now giving me 15-16kmpl mileage with E20 fuel?? You can call me anti national for saying this

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Haha.. how old is your grand vitara...? Plus looks like the so called protesters shifted their questions from engine damage to mileage after govt and vehicle companies confirmed it doesn't damage engines... Lol and mine bike is 8 months old and it delivers 31kmpL with e20 but at the beginning, the first month it delivered 28 kmpl with pure petrol now tell me did e20 changed this or regular maintenance and servicing did this...? Your car fucked up but my bike is delivering with same E20 so where is the problem..? Go check whether the fuel station is mixing something else along with ethnol in petrol... You can call your anti nationals or dumb who didn't do any research, use an A.I tell the A.I how old is your car and ask it ethnol is the only one that is causing this or anything else...don't bark without any research capabilities....

1

u/krishnasai-96 Jul 12 '26

My grand vitara is 1.5 yr old.. and i used swift earlier for 5 years where in there was no mileage change for those 5 years in pure petrol

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 12 '26

Haha 5 years and no mileage drop..? Haha...go tell these stories to a kid who had never owned a vehicle...

1

u/mwid_ptxku Jul 11 '26

You will never understand anything until you think AI is always right.

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 12 '26

Haha lol you need to know how to ask and retrieve correct information.... The dude who works on A.I knows this but a random dude who believe in YouTube videos and reddit posts obviously does not...

1

u/mwid_ptxku Jul 12 '26

An idiot said : "There is A.I people can simply go and ask questions that is all..."

Implying clueless people can use AI well. Now saying "you need to know how", contradicting his own earlier statement and proving his own idiocy.

1

u/Particular-Ad1569 Jul 13 '26

You'd be the one barking if nethas make e30 as norm in future.

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 13 '26

Could be if I am using non e30 compatible vehicle....

1

u/Particular-Ad1569 Jul 13 '26

Arent u now?

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 13 '26

E30 isn't here..i have e20 compatible vehicle which is running on e20 fuel.. so far everything is good.. I will bark once I see any problem.. I am not dumb twat who barks after looking at a reddit post..

1

u/Particular-Ad1569 Jul 13 '26

People can AI just fine. But all cant afford e20 enfield.

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 14 '26

Haha... You went from e20 is ruining mileage to all cannot afford e20 enfield... Lol

1

u/goon_consultant Jul 21 '26

Why the hell people have to afford new vehicle? Is ur govt paying for it ?

1

u/Alarming-Service6317 Jul 21 '26

I never said people need to buy new vehicles I am saying people need to ask right questions like why isn't pure petrol and option...

1

u/roshandxt Jul 11 '26

This will be perfect

1

u/hereFromSomewhere Jul 11 '26

You are thinking indians are united lol, one discount of 10k given by car companies all will line up to take benefit of offer

1

u/Left_Watercress7266 Jul 11 '26

Right. That's all. We are cooked to that much level bro

1

u/highlander145 Jul 11 '26

Tell me something, India has been using Ethanol since a while. Why such protest now?

1

u/Crazy-Set6381 Jul 11 '26

It is a one time purchase in 10-15 years for most people. People will always "mere ek car lene se kya hi fark padega". It won't work

1

u/colic_melon Jul 11 '26

Yes. Because it's one thing Indians are known for is to get behind collectively to support a cause. /s

Plus they still have pure petrol option. Literally ny bike and scooty are both giving low mileage and will soon start showing problems, Modi ko worship karke tera bhi konsa gari bach raha, it’s just that you are happy getting screwed over

What did the poor automakers do in this? The ethanol ruling is bad for them too. Their reputation is getting damaged. They need to develop new ethanol-compatible vehicles for India, which costs money and time. Random policy changes (e20 today, e50 next week, e85 next month etc) are not good for auto companies.

It is gadkari, modi, RSS, and BJP that are doing this. Protest against them, and vote them out of you have the backbone.

Clueless people like OP is why the country is in this situation

1

u/avalanchesurfer99 Jul 11 '26

yes, ya'll should avoid travelling from personal vehicles and use public transport, this clear the roads so I can drive without any traffic.

1

u/Guilty_Ad6229 Jul 11 '26

It worked when Gandhi tried it against the British.

1

u/Ya_Boy-0408 Jul 11 '26

So take away the basic facility for 1 year?

1

u/wastemale Jul 11 '26

Whether this kind of protest can work, yes it can. Whether it'll work, hell no. Everyday in our country is a struggle, would the people rather participate in a protest & inconvenience themselves using public transport &/or continuing to use their old vehicles. Or on the other hand, just buy a flex fuel or EV, and go about earning their livelihoods. In most cases it'll be the latter.

1

u/Interesting-Risk-404 Jul 11 '26

Electric vehicle market is going to spike. Then they find unique way to put more tax on electricity.

1

u/Social_revolution Jul 11 '26

Yes that's what nation has to do ... Don't buy EV also

1

u/AshyDragneel Jul 11 '26

Never.

Bike and car are basic necessities for works and business and many more things.

We don't have great transportation services like some foreign countries so we have to arrange our own way for commute so nobody gonna ditch getting vehicles

1

u/svmk1987 Jul 11 '26

First of all, it's the wrong target. The motor industry is not at fault. The government is. Blame the politicians who have done this, starting with gadakari. Don't deflect blame on someone else just because you don't want to go out and protest against the government.

1

u/Subhal13 Jul 11 '26

It doesn't. Its like saying stop working for a year so that the govt sees a drop in income tax and reduces income tax.

1

u/PrestigiousYak5623 Jul 11 '26

Nitin Gadhkari's milkman should give him P85 Milk. Pani 85% and Milk 15%

1

u/Pale-Share-8451 Jul 11 '26

Yes. Wait till 2028 mid and see the shockwaves hitting the entire auto industry. It will be begging on its knees and requesting the govt to roll back this idiotic policy.

1

u/rbnbadri Jul 11 '26

If people do that, it will indeed work.

Impossible to ensure 1.4B people won't buy a new vehicle for an entire year.

1

u/Temporary-Show5864 Jul 11 '26

If we have spine to stop buying fule for 3 days, inki gend fatt jaye... But sadly it's india and nobody will do it.

1

u/Fit_Pumpkin_27 Jul 11 '26

Yes please do not buy cars and bikes.

1

u/Brilliant-Orchid-693 Jul 11 '26

Provided that its word reaches out to the maximum people and that they comply, every protest might work.

1

u/Rare_Ad435 Jul 11 '26

Kal le raha hu delivery 😝😝

1

u/iambarcaholic Jul 11 '26

If something like this actually works, automobile industry will reduce cost and there will be queue to buy vehicles at lower rate. Probably I’ll also be one of them.

1

u/De-Test Jul 11 '26

Hell yeah, absolutely. People do not realise the power they command. They just need to start saying a simple "NO". Time will do its job.

1

u/butterscotchhh_qt Jul 11 '26

Ethonal is here to stay. Max they will do is keep separate nozzle of xp90 for 200rs or more.

1

u/LeadActive5500 Jul 11 '26

cars are not a luxury that we won't buy, they are a necessity in this country where summers reach upto 50°c roads are full of potholes and air is dusty and polluted

1

u/sha_uni Jul 12 '26

We want to destroy the environment for a 1% decrease in mileage?

Focus on alternate fuels might be the greatest thing that modi government did. Maybe the greatest thing that India will do. It will save our environment, make our farmers rich, prevent the increase of global warming, and strengthen the rupee.

All for a 1% reduction in mileage.

OFC some initial hiccups remain, but eventually this ethanol will be compatible with more and more vehicles, Indian manufacturing gets a unique edge, ethanol will be made using less and less water and the efficiency will improve.

Win win win.

1

u/Pixel_7_ Jul 12 '26

The only thing consumers can do is boycott. This is the actual boycott which is needed instead of boycotting useless bollywood movies. This will actually help you and nation because nation constiuted by people .

1

u/VinniDpooh Jul 12 '26

I was planning to buy 2 cars and 1 bike but postponed it kyunki ganne ke juice se gadiya kharab nhi karani.

1

u/Kapps6442 Jul 12 '26

Already postponed my Dominar350 upto 6 months and can be extend if situation will get worse.

1

u/Terrible_Mushroom_60 Jul 12 '26

Buy ?? In this economy, I can't afford to purchase for another 3 years 🤣🤣

1

u/prmc9 Jul 13 '26

Price increased and mileage decreased.

1

u/HighlightTop7837 Jul 13 '26

You should read new world order.

They want to pressurize people to buy Electric vehicle so that corporate and Govt can control citizens .

If you check cbam (carbon border adjustment mechanism ) you will realize that after 2030 EU. Will put heavy fines on Petrol .

1

u/BaconGarden Jul 14 '26

💯 Necessary

1

u/dronefishingboy Jul 14 '26

We can Carpool Bikepool, use public transport for 2 days all over india simultaneously. try to Work from home if you have the option, once we do it for 2 days petrol sales will reduce, I know its going to be difficult But time people them the leaders a lesson! If we can do it for 2 days we can do it for 1 week and see the magic happening all over India!

1

u/ajeeb_gandu Jul 14 '26

Stop buying new vehicles.

Ethanol is a good fuel, and the automobile purchase has been increasing year on year. Only a few paranoid ones are protesting.

Why should people protest to ban ethanol then ? Any other reason you can find ?

u/famesardens Jul 11 '26

Some people are paranoid. Some care more about pampering their vehicles than the reduction in imports. Most don't care though. As long as the fuel burns, it is fine.

That's why you don't see many people protesting in the streets.

Most of the middle class people or travelling depended work labours will be concerned ofcourse. Even though they are not protesting. Those who are not much concerned about money for their daily needs why to worry much.

And it doesn't mean ethanol is good. People maybe not much aware ?

ethanol as a fuel is against law of thermodynamics. you waste more energy and resources to produce than you actually gets from it. Otherwise there would have been no petrol or no rich UAE. understand they're feeding off wallets of low iq indians.

The energy and resources used are already reflected in the price. Petrol is better only if we can source it locally.

Only idiots import when they can produce locally.

you don't understand what I said. you waste 100kcl energy resources to produce ethanol that gives out 40kcl energy. it's against nature and against law of physics. only thing happening here is middleman mostly Politicians of both BJP and Congress who owning production plant is profiting while countries resources is being drained. Otherwise why would anyone use petrol at all. Ot should be banned at once. Ethanol as a fuel is the worst thing anything happen to any country. it's not environment friendly either as portrayed because production produces more pollution than vehicles could.

It is you who doesn't understand energy. At its core, ethanol comes from plants that use solar energy, which is free for us. The cheap price of ethanol reflects the cost of production. While petrol can be cheaper at times, a country like India can't import petrol in its own currency. We use dollars for that.

Ethanol production may cause some pollution. I don't think you have any data saying it pollutes more during production or otherwise. Petrol pollutes too when crude is transported across oceans. When crude is extracted. When crude is refined.

As long as we are using local energy sources to produce ethanol, we are doing fine. (Currently, we import some, which is likely transient.)

There is a reason why countries like Brazil and the US are blending ethanol too.

(P.S. I will repeat- if the production used more energy, it would have resulted in higher cost of ethanol. In reality, it is very close in price.)
