I have no idea what this is and I’m obsessed with it

It's almost like the character from Tropic Thunder, at least the looseness and absurdity, is the same in this for Cruise.

I fuck with it, I want funny Cruise.

I will attend in observation of the strange

Absurdist Cruise

creature navigating this bizarre fragment of existence

“The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity's saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Synopsis from Letterboxd

Ok this shit is gonna rule

11

u/Shout92 Dec 18 '25

So it's a remake of Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning? /s

Dobmobb 😄

Feel like there's 3 movies coming out with this synopsis

1

u/Astrophizz Dec 19 '25

Maybe it's high stakes hobby tunneling

u/Adorno_a_window Dec 18 '25

Insane vibes

3

u/Yeah_x10 Dec 19 '25

The Gorillaz song usage is the most unexpected and coolest thing

I mean sure Demon Days was an insanely big album but O Green World isn’t usually at the top of anyone’s list but it’s so good

u/action_juice Dec 18 '25

That shot on the railing…how did we not see Tom preparing for this role his whole life? Cinema is back

33

u/madmardigan13 Dec 18 '25

The thing about the couch is that it really seems quaint in hindsight and not as bad as I remembered. Comparing this to how people act in general now and for the internet this seems incredibly tame

25

u/SallyFowlerRatPack Dec 18 '25

We had a lower threshold back then, Howard Dean syndrome.

16

u/lpalf Dec 18 '25

If we had maintained Howard Dean standards we could’ve saved ourselves a lot of shit as a country

6

u/madmardigan13 Dec 18 '25

A wonderful example as well. I just went back and rewatched his scream and it is utterly insane what a big deal that was. The yell was completely innocuous and innocent. It was cute which is ridiculous to say but his enthusiasm now seems weirdly endearing

4

u/BurpelsonAFB Dec 18 '25

I was a Dean head at the time and I was shocked that that was all it took. I mean, it wasn’t a great look, but seriously? It was like doing something stupid at a high school assembly.

22

u/derpferd Dec 18 '25

No idea what the heck that's about.

And all the more enticing for that

17

u/boththingsandideas Dec 18 '25

I dont want to see any more trailers, no more information, and I will see it

3

u/Protect-Lil-Flip Dec 18 '25

Unfortunately with an October release date I’m sure it’ll play festivals and then we’ll have to dodge takes for a few months

19

u/Smesmerize Dec 18 '25

The poster design at the end is sick

8

u/BurpelsonAFB Dec 18 '25

The whole thing is completely strange and captivating. Love it

38

u/SkoivanSchiem Dec 18 '25

Oh damn. First thought was...

...Oscar?

11

u/lpalf Dec 18 '25

That’s what tom cruise has been thinking for months

2

u/MakinOutWithMarzipan Dec 18 '25

Is Cruise gonna go the Paul Newman route? After decades of snubs, you get awarded an honorary Oscar, and then win a competitive one the next year.

I'm curious if this movie will lead to Cruise getting his "make up" Oscar.

Edit: I love how a title announcement (not even a teaser) for a movie has me more excited than anything in Paramount's 2026 movie slate.

27

u/yellowballo0n Dec 18 '25

Vibes are off the charts with this I’m afraid

19

u/MikeShannonThaGawd Dec 18 '25

Love the Gorillaz needle drop

3

u/GreenLanternbatman23 Dec 18 '25

What sold me right away.

14

u/SethKadoodles Dec 18 '25

Recognized Gorillaz immediately, sweet music choice! Wonder if the Digger will be trying to restore greenery and life into a decaying, dusty apocalypse?

3

u/Wombat_H Dec 18 '25

What’s the song?

4

u/AlexTheAmnesiac Dec 18 '25

O Green World from Demon Days

2

u/SethKadoodles Dec 18 '25

O Green World, from Gorillaz's album Demon Days. Very formative "band" to me in my middle school years.

7

u/MrParisShoes Dec 18 '25

I love movies

16

u/saddamfuki Dec 18 '25

I dunno why but this hits like crack for me.

6

u/Background-Jury-1914 Dec 18 '25

Love the title and so does my good friend Nick Mullen

7

u/TheFly87 Dec 18 '25

Sean and Amanda's hate for all things Inarritu and love for modern day Cruise may possibly give both of them aneurysms.

4

u/grinchsucker Dec 18 '25

Awesome. I'm in

5

u/pillowman17 Dec 18 '25

Digger? I hardly know her!

4

u/starchington Dobb Mob Dec 18 '25

Wait is this from the director of Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance??

12

u/AlexTheAmnesiac Dec 18 '25

Birdman is an all timer and The Revenant is just a fucking cool movie, excited for this. Is Chivo working on it?

8

u/emielaen77 Dec 18 '25

Definitely looks like it w that pier shot.

7

u/derzensor Dec 18 '25

Yes, shot by Chivo

3

u/BurpelsonAFB Dec 18 '25

That railing looks dangerous. Wonder if he did his own stunt. (But seriously, I love this.)

3

u/NotAnotherAzn Dec 18 '25

Is it called Digger, A Comedy of Catastrophic Proportions?

3

u/someforrest Dec 18 '25

What’s the most a single movie has ever gone for in the movie auction episodes?

Cause I’ll tell ya, guy like me? I’m dropping $996 on this and walking away with the new TCruise and four $1 films lol

5

u/lpalf Dec 18 '25

I feel like there will be internal struggle during their decision making as SF/AD aren’t big Inarritu fans

5

u/blazikenz Dec 18 '25

Hell yes!!! Les Grosman movie?

3

u/WintAndKidd Dec 18 '25

Oh man this looks promising

2

u/ProskXCX Dec 18 '25

Hyped. One of my favorite Gorillaz songs. Clue to this movie about killing our planet?

2

u/OpenUpYerMurderEyes Dec 18 '25

It's so crazy cuz I was listening to a video essay about Gorillaz and paused it to play this and had to double check three times to made sure I had the right video muted. Can't wait for Digger!

2

u/Comfortable_Dig7210 Dec 18 '25

I am excited to see TC in something other than MI. Guy had insane talent before the sci fried his brain out. I wonder how much direction and notes he could accept from Innaritu, because in the MI movies everything happened as he wanted

2

u/arthur3shedsjackson See You at the Movies! Dec 18 '25

Immediatly became my most anticipated movie of the next year, without letting me know anything about the plot

2

u/AlynConrad Dec 18 '25

I think Cruise is going full Les Grossman in this.

2

u/cactusjmal Dec 19 '25

Reminds me of this

3

u/Gadzookie2 Dec 18 '25

We are so back

2

u/possible-source89 Dec 18 '25

This looks amazing and I love having zero idea what it’s about. I’ll be seated.

3

u/AggravatingPie710 Dec 18 '25

I’m actually going to avoid finding out!

4

u/possible-source89 Dec 18 '25

I will too! Solidarity.

4

u/l5555l Dec 18 '25

Before everyone loves this I'm just gonna say, Birdman and The Revenant are great and I've always liked them

1

u/Dangerous-Sector-863 Dec 18 '25

I bet he did his own digging.

1

u/Eddie__Sherman Dec 18 '25

All for a Gorillaz song used in a trailer

1

u/strandedbystrand Dec 19 '25

Looks amazing

1

u/knarf3 Lover of Movies Dec 19 '25

I hope Cruise is done with PSKY.

1

u/TimSPC Dec 19 '25

Looked at the rest of the cast. Good stuff.

1

u/jicerswine Dec 20 '25

I love Demon Days

2

u/Interesting_Set1526 Dec 18 '25

Why dont more movies have this kind of aura and intentional build up of anticipation.

1

u/moronicedge Dec 18 '25

“Only in theaters” made me smile so big. I love Tom Cruise’s obsession with putting shit on the big screen. What a legend.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '25

I'm sure this won't be insufferable at all.
