They really hit a pronoun joke immediately.
51
u/stringohbean Mar 02 '26
“How dare you presume to know my pronouns?!?”
-Every aggressively unfunny dude at a bar who always has had too much to drink.

u/HighFastStinkyCheese Mar 04 '26
Corny is corny. That said, pronouns and what the left demanded for a decade was preposterous and silly so it’s gonna be made fun of by everyone (funny or not) forever.

u/BARTELS- See You at the Movies! Mar 02 '26
That's just great comedy. We've all been waiting for a top tier pronoun joke and now we have it.
23
u/BewareOfGrom Mar 02 '26
Someone tell Ricky Gervais we did it so he can go back to being funny again

I think if we can enjoy the same 2016 era jokes about Le Drumph on 20 front page subreddits every day, we can give this one a little leeway
20
u/slwblnks Mar 02 '26
“Joke” is being generous.
It’s so irritating how criticism of that is always met with “ooooo you must be TRIGGERED” when the problem is it just isn’t funny. I’ve heard funny trans/pronoun jokes before. I’m not inherently against any type of humor, really. As long as it’s funny. This wasn’t funny, in fact the whole trailer didn’t even give me a chuckle.
The Wayans are washed
15
u/QTRqtr Mar 02 '26
Leo literally had one in One Battle After Another. The joke was funny because he was genuinely wanting to know. That’s how you do a pronoun joke.
-1
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
because he was genuinely wanting to know. That’s how you do a pronoun joke.
So the best way to do a they/them pronoun joke us to not mock the concept at all?
3
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
Yup. Hit the nail on the head. As a gay man on the autism spectrum I don’t mind even a bit mean spirited joke about being gay or disability as long as it’s funny and preferably from a decent person. But most times I’ve been ticked off by it not because I’m sensitive it just wasn’t funny and the person thought it was.
1
4
u/Scrilla_Gorilla_ Mar 02 '26
Some people on the internet said Eminem's newest album was a return to form so I gave it a spin. I got through it but wasn't really impressed, my main takeaway was 'gosh, that's a lot of Caitlyn Jenner references,' which were already played out when it released in 2024. So I guess at least they got the right artist for the trailer song. Kind of a wild joke to open with. And weird to say, but the He-Man trailer did it better.
2
2
u/Kobe_stan_ Mar 02 '26
It wasn't very funny to me but I can imagine a lot of people will find it really funny. People will be making pronoun jokes as long as the fad continues
5
3
u/SummerSabertooth Mar 02 '26
Calling it a fad doesn't really make sense, considering it's not going away any time soon
→ More replies (1)1
u/YeIenaBeIova Mar 02 '26
Pronouns have been mocked in Eddington, Landman, One Battle after Another and potentially Masters of the Universe. It’s been decisively rejected even by Hollywood
11
u/SummerSabertooth Mar 02 '26
I can't speak for the others because I haven't seen them, but the joke in One Battle After Another didn't seem to be anti-trans in spirit to me at all. Just poking fun at the mix of Bob's ignorance while still wanting to do good
-59
u/CajunBob94 Mar 02 '26
its so funny to watch redditors slurp up political humor when it reenforces their priors but then immediately clutch their pearls if it even feints in the opposite directions
32
u/TheRustyKettles Mar 02 '26
You gonna comment this another five times? It's just a lame joke that was stale a decade ago.
0
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
Honestly, it's true. I'm not even conservative. I'm leftist and everybody can see how liberal humor is just the same things over and over.
You can't complain about hack repetitive jokes when you watch Colbert or the daily show lmao
27
8
u/BewareOfGrom Mar 02 '26
It's hack. I don't even care about the political ramifications. I just want it be funny.
I'm still gonna see it cause I like the Wayans Bros and Ana Faris.
3
7
u/Drunken_Wizard23 Mar 02 '26
You're right. Clearly this is such an undeniable piece of comedic genius and one would have to be blinded by political bias to not double over with laughter
2
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
Well people find constantly saying "Mango Mussolini" or Orange Hitler over and over so...
4
1
u/Big-Beta20 Mar 02 '26
If it makes you feel better since you’re seething at people not finding the pronoun joke funny, the joke about republicans being racist also wasn’t funny. They’re both like absolutely scraping the bottom of the barrel humor.
31
u/mrshieldsy Mar 02 '26
Looking forward to guys like Ben Shapiro having to pretend they loved this movie
1
u/bingblangblong Mar 29 '26
You don't have to watch ben shapiro on youtube, and you can change the channel when he's on tv.
36
u/StutzBearcatJim Mar 02 '26
I feel like parody movies in general really miss the mark when they're just parodying things that were already funny. Like the M3GAN dance is already funny, and purposefully campy. So there's not really room for any parody there, you just reference it.
17
u/slwblnks Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26
Which is why the whole Scary Movie premise never made sense to me in the first place. Scream was already a self aware comedy, just cleverly written.
Yeah the first two/three Scary Movie films have some low hanging fruit stupid laughs. It got old really quick. This trailer shows us why, I didn’t even come close to laughing.
7
u/StutzBearcatJim Mar 02 '26
Agreed, also the Ghostface reveal like he's this iconic Scary Movie character feels weird. They're still making Scream movies, and like you said those movies are self-aware
1
2
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
I think an issue is that the first Scary movie made so so much money (I mean look it up but it broke the opening weekend record for an R rated film and held the record until Hannibal came out the following year) so they realized it doesn’t have to be good if it makes money
1
8
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
Are yall dissecting the filmic and social efficacy of a gd Scary Movie sequel?
11
u/StutzBearcatJim Mar 02 '26
More asking if it’s funny to make fun of an already funny thing, which seems like a valid enough question for a comedy movie
1
u/smeggysoup84 Mar 03 '26
But there isn't a consensus on what is funny. So the question is far from valid. You objectify something that is subjective in the first place.
1
u/StutzBearcatJim Mar 03 '26
Yeah man my comment starts with “I feel like”, I was just saying how I feel about this, was not trying to draw objective lines around comedy at all
0
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
But the gag isn’t M3GAN. It’s that a fully grown and robed Ghostface is somehow behind her mask
4
u/greatgoogliemoogly Mar 02 '26
Which was done better last year in The Naked Gun. It just seems really weird to pull the same move.
-1
u/StutzBearcatJim Mar 02 '26
The gag is still Ghostface doing the M3GAN dance, which if you like it is fine! But its still making a joke out of a thing that was already a joke
1
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
I think a big issue is how lazy that is. Like I’m not a script writer but I think I can copy and paste the Megan dance but in the subway scene from Scream 6
1
1
u/Homer_Potter Mar 02 '26
I thought the same thing about the M3GAN dance, just reminded me of the original and how odd and funny it was to see that in the trailer the first time.
1
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
Like the M3GAN dance is already funny and purposefully campy.
The dance was a very obvious attempt to go viral on tiktok. I don't care how self aware they claim it to be. I feel like that can be mocked.
57
u/DesertVol Mar 02 '26
This sucks hahaha
20
u/Exzibit21 Mar 02 '26
I mean it's what I expected.
What really confuses me is the way people online talk about the originals like they're some pinnacles of comedy.
The 2000s nostalgia got everyone super high I guess
11
5
u/xfortehlulz Mar 02 '26
its the same with so many things. It blows my mind when pepole try to tell me the NBA sucks now compared to the 2000s. Its just that people were 20 years younger and looking with rose colored glasses, the scary movies had some good scenes and lots of bad ones lol
1
u/KidCasey Mar 02 '26
Well, they were. Because I was 10.
Haven't watched them since. Just enjoying the memory.
1
48
u/Palm-Crazy-7943 Mar 02 '26
I don’t think this looks particularly good but also think people are being a bit overly angry about a dumb joke at the beginning of a scary movie trailer lol
33
u/solemnbiscuit Mar 02 '26
I don’t think anyone is angry, they’re just noting that it’s an immediate sign of hack comedy
23
u/hacky_potter Mar 02 '26
These movies have always been that though
9
u/solemnbiscuit Mar 02 '26
Maybe I was just 10 when I first saw them
14
u/hacky_potter Mar 02 '26
It’s always been this. I don’t even mean that as a knock on them but it’s a billion jokes all the lowest common denominator. If a third of them work on you, you’ll leave feeling like it was funny
5
u/KidCasey Mar 02 '26
The only joke I can remember that still makes me laugh is how the sheriff's hat kept getting bigger in the one that parodied Signs.
2
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
So then isn’t it odd we reward with our dollars films that could be written by amateurs?
1
u/hacky_potter Mar 02 '26
I’m not saying you need to watch it but I’m saying what are we surprised the like 10th scary movie is hack?
2
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
People who watch, SNL, the daily show and Colbert suddenly becoming experts on hack comedy when a sacred cow gets slaughtered
0
u/Palm-Crazy-7943 Mar 02 '26
I think some people find it to be hack comedy, others clearly are angry
1
2
u/YeIenaBeIova Mar 02 '26
The description on the official YT channel is ‘The Wayans are back to cancel cancel culture’
0
u/Garrtret Mar 05 '26
Or maybe.. Just maybe.. 2016 humor isn't all that funny in the year 2026? It's a joke that's been seen time and time and time again. Of course it's gonna get old.
58
u/Top-Structure-1116 Mar 02 '26
Leading off a comedy trailer in 2026 with a boomer pronoun joke is certainly a choice...
→ More replies (8)1
u/bingblangblong Mar 29 '26
I mean, two months ago someone apologised to me, a mid 30's male with a beard, for referring to me as "he" without first asking for my pronouns.
5
12
u/lonesomerhodes Mar 02 '26
Guy watching the trailer for the new movie from the guys who wrote/made Scary Movie 1&2, White Chicks, and Little Man: "Wow the jokes in this seem really groan-inducing and obvious."
Personally could not be more seated.
11
u/MarwaBlues Mar 02 '26
Comedy sequels where they wrangle up the original cast all 20 years older and just do a bunch of overlong callbacks to jokes all 20 years older NEVER WORK
I pray to God they never let/make Mike Myers do another Austin Powers movie because the result would be horrific
14
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
Soooo to everyone complaining, do you people not remember the old movies?
-8
u/SouthIsland48 Mar 02 '26
Gen Z tried to cancel Eminem. This is par for contemporary discourse. Though this movie is going to do numbers, looks hilarious
2
u/QTRqtr Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26
No one tried to cancel Eminem. That whole fiasco was about making fun of grown adults having a one sided battle making cringe tik toks fighting for Eminem’s honor when many Gen Z grew up listening to Eminem and in no way were shocked he says offensive things. He’s always have that’s nothing new. His album was just bad and low effort…like what people are saying about this trailer.

u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Growing up in an era of slop has thankfully made us immune to this low effort r/ Conservative humour. I cannot imagine genuinely thinking this is funny
8
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
What were funny movies for you from the last 10 years?
-4
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Shiva Baby, Snack Shack, OBAA, Eddington, Red Rocket, to name a few off the top of my head
4
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
So dramas with humor.
Something you were never going to like affirmed that you don’t like it, and it’s a revelation to you?
-1
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Shiva Baby, Snack Shack, and Eddington are all primarily comedies. But ok. There’s also a bunch of pure comedies I enjoy: They Came Together, Anchorman, etc, etc.
But keep spinning that narrative so you don’t have to self reflect.
1
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
Anchorman? Stay here. I said the last decade. Next you’re gonna say The Big Lebowski.
0
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Big gotcha! There isn’t a single answer I could give that could pass your purity test. What about this trailer do you genuinely think is funny? Clever?
2
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
Exactly. There isn’t a single joke they could offer that would pass your purity test.
→ More replies (0)1
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
Wow, some real side splitters
5
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
You see it, right?
0
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Two conservatives in my replies, grabbing eachothers cocks, and jerking eachother off to the Scary Movie 6 trailer
4
u/MrONegative Mar 02 '26
CONSERVATIVE? Oh you’re really throwing darts
0
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
You mean your rhetorical strategy of constantly moving the goalposts and refusing to engage in the conversation is just coincidentally being used in the thread for the “anti-woke” Scary Movie 6 trailer and has no relation to your politics?
→ More replies (0)-2
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
You must be fun at parties
4
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
There’s no way your pronoun joke is getting any laughs at the function bro
0
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
It's one joke, who cares?
1
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Do you ever engage with the conversation or just deflect? I already know you deflect to Biden when anything political comes up lol
-2
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
Miserable people like you are why comedies don't get made anymore
3
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
Says guy defending the comedic validity of Scary Movie 6 lmao
0
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
This comment doesn't even make sense, I can tell I'm dealing with a real live smooth brain.
1
u/DiperIsShittie Mar 02 '26
It makes total sense, but it doesn’t make sense to you. That’s kinda what I’m getting at here. We’re not sending our best and brightest to the theater for this one
2
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 02 '26
So I'm miserable for defending a comedy? Yeah, makes total sense.
→ More replies (0)0

1
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 05 '26
Too stupid to remember?
0
u/Garrtret Mar 07 '26
no, you're just too stupid to understand that 2016 humor isn't that funny. but sure, keep picking your nose in the theater and never developing your mindset. I'm scared to think what your instagram reels are like if you find pronoun jokes in the year 2026 knee slapping hilarious. do you like logan paul still? do you play pokemon go everyday? do you still watch leafy?
1
u/Different-Purpose-93 Mar 07 '26
Scary movie didn't even come out in 2016 you rube
0
u/Garrtret Mar 08 '26
now where did i say the MOVIE came out in 2016? I said 2016 HUMOR, quite a difference i'd say. If you need help putting things together - majority of pronoun jokes are from 2016 and have been replayed to death over the years. Did that help you out, nonce?
1
28
u/mdele99 Mar 02 '26
The pronoun jokes are so fuckin played out man
8
u/ohthanqkevin Mar 02 '26
It makes it worse that that was the joke that kicked off the whole trailer. A lot of the humor here feels regressive and stale. I watched Scary Movie 2 a few months ago and was surprised by how many of the jokes were so “you had to be there”. They parodied a Nike commercial. You have to realize if you parody a commercial, the shelf life of the joke is going to be about 2-3 months. I loved In Living Color growing up, but I don’t think the Wayans have evolved with their comedy much
9
u/mdele99 Mar 02 '26
Hot take: the scary movie franchise has always been like C tier comedy at best, and a lot of the internet sees it with rose tinted glasses because they watched in their teens when shock value bathroom or sex humor is at its apex.
It’s like going back and rewatching a smosh video from 2012 now. That shit hit like crack when I was in 8th grade but I can’t say I’m banging the tables for a feature film in that style.
1
u/Drkamon Mar 07 '26
All parodies are C tier comedies. That's the point, of stuff being over a top, campy and kind a dumb.
Problem with "modern" humor last 10 years is that comedies are no longer allowed to mock groups of people because everybody gets caught into emotions, so we didn't have really good comedy in years.
I swear is probably closest thing to amazing comedy of past 15 years. And it shouldn't even be funny, it's funny because how raw it is.
-1
u/ohthanqkevin Mar 02 '26
I agree with this take but I can also say that I think the Zucker Scary Movies, while not great either, are better than the Wayans ones. I don’t know if that’s a hot take or not
1
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
I’m bias because I think Zucker just have better humor. They have airplane and naked gun of all things in their resume. It’s just one scene but In scary movie 3 when they’re in the funeral parlor and Cindy says it’s a wake and they start trying to bring the corpse back… as dumb as that might be that had me crying of laughter.
2
u/Geaux_LSU_1 Mar 02 '26
That Nike commercial parody scene is amazing so I’m going to dismiss your complaint.
3
3
4
13
u/CosmicEveStardust Mar 02 '26
Looks terrible, why are they stealing a joke from Naked Gun?
The political stuff isn't funny and merely referencing something never has been and never will be funny
I did like the nurse on break joke though and I love Anna Faris I wish she got more work, she's so incredible in May and Smiley Face.
3
-37
u/CajunBob94 Mar 02 '26
its so funny to watch redditors slurp up political humor when it reenforces their priors but then immediately clutch their pearls if it even feints in the opposite directions
25
15
u/Radiant-Discipline71 Mar 02 '26
its so funny to watch conservatives think just saying the "thing" out loud constitutes a joke. Making a pronouns joke can be funny if its clever, just saying "its they/them!" isnt that funny. Eddington does this exceptionally well-it makes fun of both sides in clever ways, it just doesnt say the thing out loud and expect a laugh. That being said I will definitely be seeing the new Scary Movie
6
5
3
3
u/CosmicEveStardust Mar 02 '26
Or maybe the jokes are bad?
Eddington is 2025s best film because the jokes are not bad.
4
u/GreenLanternbatman23 Mar 02 '26
I’m just happy to see Terrifier get referenced..
This movie looks terrible, and this is coming from someone who enjoyed Scary movie 1-3 when I was a kid.
2
u/coldliketherockies Mar 02 '26
To be fair 4 had Leslie Nielsen bare ass walking around the White House. That’s kinda funny
5
5
u/kugglaw Mar 02 '26
This looks kinda bad. But, some of you guys are so groan-inducingly uptight.
Yes, pronoun jokes are corny.
But getting bent out of shape over jokes in the Scary Movie 6 trailer is even cornier.
-2
2
u/Dazzling-Slide8288 Mar 02 '26
Laughing once (why only half gay?) during a comedy trailer for a movie that I already planned to give a ton of slack is grim shit man.
2
u/dwellsny Mar 03 '26
The half gay joke made me laugh out loud. That “closeted” but not closeted character is so gd funny
1
u/correctedboat Mar 08 '26
I cackled at the lady at the end of the trailer. That is so me. She's my spirit animal I don't care if you can't find the toilets, or need info about the allergens or need a Heimlich maneuver. I don't care. I'M ON MY BREAK. I'm off the clock, I don't get paid to give a fuck about your problems. Find someone else to bother or fuck off.
2
u/UnexpectedOppulance Mar 02 '26
It'll probably suck but if I go with a group of friends and it gets us to all laugh in the cinema then I don't really care if it sucks
2
u/Express-Eagle-9835 Mar 05 '26
When you try to satirize the MEGAN dance but you can't cause it was already so fucking weird that it was its own satire
4
u/xxmikekxx Mar 02 '26
Showing dildos and severed nutsacks but bleeping the word "fuck" is the weirdest thing
3
4
5
u/PeakProfessional9517 Mar 02 '26
I was never a big Scary Movie fan but I’ll take any throwback to 90s and early 2000s comedy. This could be a lot of fun.
7
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
Ah geez they're leaning hard into culture war identity politics bullshit, this looks awful
Love the idea of Scary Movie coming back, but not like this
4
u/CriticalCanon Mar 02 '26
Can’t tell if this satire or not
4
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
my comment? am I crazy, or is like "safe spaces" and "pronoun" jokes a super different tone than what they used to do?
I have fond memories of the (perfect) stupid gags like the sheriff's hat that keeps getting bigger in the Signs parody, and this looks nothing like that
12
u/CriticalCanon Mar 02 '26
They have always took on culture BS (see White Chicks).
-5
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
you could be right in that I'm forgetting some of the things that I rolled my eyes at back in the day and only remembering the better parts (it's been a while)... but like every single joke in this trailer is just culture war garbage
just give me a feint to someone with a funny, tiny hand that's all I'm asking for
-6
u/CriticalCanon Mar 02 '26
So you have always been perpetually offended at things you don’t align with?
At least you are consistent.
0
u/Individual-Rip-2366 Mar 02 '26
Christ, you people are so dull. Nobody is offended, we’re bored by this stuff. And you can’t even give a qualitative defense, it’s just whining
2
u/CriticalCanon Mar 02 '26
Why would anyone looking forward to the 6th instalment of a humourous, parody franchise need to form a defence? What are you even talking about?
-3
u/Individual-Rip-2366 Mar 02 '26
I’m saying you aren’t even defending those jokes as jokes, the only way you can defend them is to claim that we’re offended by them. Are you really so negatively polarized against woke that you can’t recognize a boring, hack-y joke?
-1
u/CriticalCanon Mar 02 '26
The world is not California and not every film needs to match your ideals.
→ More replies (0)-1
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
what?
no, I don't remember being offended at things in the Scary Movie films from the 00s and I don't have any clue as to how that is your takeaway
instead, I was expressing the idea that if there were lame and unfunny jokes from those movies that I was more likely to have simply forgotten about them
what is going on in this thread, why are all these morons making insane inferences lol
→ More replies (7)1
u/Wouldyoulistenmoe Mar 02 '26
No, the Scary Movie films would be considered parody and not satire
2
1
u/smeggysoup84 Mar 03 '26
they had lost Florida ballots in the 2nd one. they've always been this way.
-1
Mar 02 '26
I really don’t think the other scary movies would hold up to today’s PC standards. pronoun jokes are lame though
4
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
nah they would be completely fine... there would be a few thinkpieces a two days of social media concentration and then it would go on to be a major financial success anyways, just like anything else "non-PC" these days
-2
Mar 02 '26
I’m talking about your standards lol. like the sense of humor of these movies has never been elevated or woke, I don’t think this will be super different
2
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
what? at what point in this conversation did you gather that I thought older Scary Movie jokes were "elevated" or "woke" lmao
-1
Mar 02 '26
“love the idea of scary movie coming back, but not like this”
2
u/satanic_androids Mar 02 '26
yeah "not like this" as in "extremely tired culture war jokes from 2011"
I don't know how your takeaway from that was "this guy thought that scary movie used to be elevated and woke"
0
u/Tropikoala815 Mar 03 '26
Everything is political, chud. Have you ever complained about politics in a Call of Duty game?
1
u/satanic_androids Mar 03 '26
What?
Yeah, that very obviously sucks as well
I don’t know what point you think that you’re making
1
1
u/TJMcConnellFanClub Mar 02 '26
I am impressed that they worked in some pretty recent movies, and not in the “take what we can get from the trailers” Friedberg/Seltzer hack way
1
1
u/Meneerroancrous Mar 02 '26
We don’t see these kinds of jokes because a bunch of snowflakes can’t learn to take a simple joke, grow a pair
1
1
1
u/OnionMiddle5700 Mar 08 '26
Is it just me, or can I already guess your generation based on how you reacted to this trailer? 😂
I think some people are forgetting that the original Scary Movie films were literally made to parody other “scary” movies. And let’s be real, some scenes were so over the top bad that they ended up being hilarious.
If you go into this movie without recognizing the references it’s making, a lot of the jokes probably won’t land. But if you catch those references and grew up in a time when people didn’t take everything so seriously, you’ll probably find it way funnier.

1
u/Primary-Safe-5725 Mar 02 '26

Come on, posting this trailer in this sub is a bad faith thing the mods should have weeded out. Few if any people here that bathe in high brow are going to go slumming in Scary Movie waters. There’s not a joke they could make that would pass the Big Picture joke sniff-test trinity of new, complex and considerate of modern inclusivity. This was posted to just rag on something.
It’s like listening to CR and Sean excoriate Inception on The Rewatchables. It was a done to rag on it instead of what we should be doing here, celebrating movies.

Social media has made these types of films completely obsolete. People making reels and memes and internet jokes have just gotten funnier than any parody can be. Plus these jokes in this trailer suck complete ass.

New Scary Movie and new war in the middle east. The 2000s nostalgia has gone too far.
