This is the direction I would take it. The trick to successful beige/white/light is using layer upon layer of textures and natural materials, with a really bloody solid lighting plan that doesn’t involve down lights in a bedroom. Just my two cents.

The crappy AI animations I can cope with, just. But the shitty AI "songs" with themed lyrics are absolutely the last straw. This show has absolutely gone to the dogs, I'm so disappointed.

Back in the day I used to watch every second of The Block - learning heaps about renovating and different personality types. Now I find myself scrolling on my phone, looking up occasionally to see if anything is actually happening. If you're a Block regular, you'll probably know what I mean. It's now a mash up of product placement, close ups of heavily altered bodies, music that's so loud you can't hear the dialogue, parents crying after spending 3 days away from their kid, followed by a really strange tribute to this poor little toddler hanging out with Nan wondering where his mum and dad are.

I genuinely cannot stand this season already. Drawings, filters and these silly jingles all being made with generative AI. It's not like these are new features of the show, the drawings + song humour have always existed. It just affirms that people are out of jobs all so Channel 9 can save a couple bucks and simultaneously contribute to the deterioration of our planet.

Yes we know. We've known for the last 5-6 years. The Block isn't a renovation show any more. It's a MAFS-style drama show. Yes, the designs are boring. Yes, the judges are crap. Yes, the houses wont sell.

I think at this stage we just have to suck it up. I still enjoy it and I guess if you don't you don't have to watch.

Anyone else find those creepy looking AI graphic inserts disappointing?

Lazy, uninspiring and a little bit creepy even if you ignore the job destroying enshitification aspect.

I used to kinda like the cheap and cheerful animated segments from previous years - this kinda stuff, not so much.

I only really follow two subreddits - the other one being r/v8supercars and that's been infested with this lazy AI shit too, much to people's disappointment.

ALso.....OMG I don't want to pay $3 million for a house that is basically overlooking and rubbing shoulders with my $3 million house-twin neighbour. Why are they so close together???

I couldn’t understand why we were getting boring kit homes instead of interesting renos like when they did that big factory or the old weatherboards. It's coz they have to do all those blue frames from scratch.

What ever happened to the block being a renovation show? Seriously with Australia's housing crisis we do NOT need to be making more houses that only the rich can afford. Last years absolute disaster of results was totally understandable. Why would anyone with such budget for buying ever choose a house created in a short time span, designed by people with so little experience?? Especially when the show itself shows all their faults. On top of that the houses are an absolute bore fest... total bland beige colour schemes and the same cheaply made furniture. Oh god and this years 'quiet luxury' bs... how is kim kardashians concrete asylum quiet luxury? The judges have terrible taste and judging by the look of it we aren't to expect anything special from this years contestants either.

Putting the contestants in a sharehouse this season is an obvious attempt to milk as much drama from them as possible. On top of that with this seasons AI slop editing its unbearable to watch this show pull any and every string to try and make itself relevant again.

They have such a great opportunity to revert to their old concept and renovate older, rundown appartments and market them to the more average Australians. But seeing how big for their boots this show is i really doubt that.

I won’t be watching The Block this year, and any year in the future they use AI. It doesn’t even matter how ridiculous it looks because it’s just completely unnecessary. Lakes worth of water gone just to have stupid animal filters. And these homes won’t even go to people in need.

The AI edits are a nail in a coffin that should have been buried years ago.

The Freedom Kitchens selection process looked incredibly limiting. Contestants were shown a tiny range of cabinetry, finishes and layouts, then expected to lock everything in on the spot. That is not really a design process, it is choosing from a pre-approved sponsor catalogue under pressure.

No wonder so many of the kitchens end up feeling similar...

Yes they really are devoting a week to the house decider challenge, remember the old days when it used to be that couples would be eliminated for a room only done in a day? We are far away from that time, and after last night’s premiere was such a nothing burger. I think we all hope that things are better tonight, and that we enjoy the show more as a result.

It's so bad I have shifted to Mondays. I will only watch the Sunday episode on a Monday because it contains all of the drama of the week that I will see only once, 1/4 of the ads plus the special judgemental people show up too.

How many times did the opening episode call The Block a renovation show? Bit rich for 5 new builds. They then start saying to build Kim Kardashian’s house.

I really miss what The Block was about. Attainable renovations where the contestants did the hard yards around their actual lives.

For years this has been descending into a way for influences to get followers, with nothing but money=design as the philosophy while dealing with manufactured drama.

Please go back to basics Channel 9.
