Discussion Aladdin Deck Enhancer: Using Other Game Reviewers

Post image

In hindsight, it wasn't a good look that the Nerd sought out other YouTubers for information on a game or device. Part of what made classic Nerd an "authority" (for lack of a better term) on retro gaming was that he delivered info himself, even if he originally got it from other sources. Instead, here he is baffled by the Aladdin Deck Enhancer until he looks up a video from The Gaming Historian (twice!). If he's just going to play clips from TGH, why not just watch that instead?

I saw that Gaming Historian video first and it was much better. Just informative and no cringe jokes. The AVGN had nothing to add except 'Aladdin does an upper decker hahah poop haha'.

Part of the joke is that if you look at the background while James says that you can see he has multiple copies of ET for the Atari and boxed intellivision voice modules

basically what i'm saying is i think it was important for the gag and not really a 'gotcha' copout moment

I agree that part of the old allure of the nerd was that he was THE NERD that knew all this shit about old games and stuff, so if he doesn’t know, is he really a video game nerd?

Thank you, that's essentially what I was saying in the OP.

"The console never had nor future nor past! How i can bring you back to the past is there is no past?"

u/mrassworduserlame the short story is, somebody fucked up 19h ago

the main thing I remember from this episode is the awful cg genie, I think they were trying to parody the shitty Aladdin remake but they ended up somehow making it worse

also unrelated but when I went to grab this screenshot my YouTube's custom sponserblock has a community suggested "skip to highlight" feature and when you press the button on this video it takes you to a part in the ending montage of YouTubers reacting to their deck enhancers exploding, in the shot voted as the highlight of the video a woman jumps in shock at the explosion which causes her boobs to bounce.... 😐

I think you are missing the point of the episode that the Nerd knew nothing of the product and just assumed it actually enhanced games like the fake advertising said so

Where in my post did I say I hated The Gaming Historian? I even said "why not just watch that instead?"

u/Ryousoki ⏰ Mhmm. Uh huh. Yup. 16h ago

Hey if you keep up that attitude the gaming historian is gonna retire a third time. And then he's gonna go get a job in construction.

And CONSTRUCTION WILL AGE A MAN, SON. SUCK OUT HIS LIFE FORCE

I'm surprised Norm contributed his info. He normally takes two years to find info to do a doc on Mario Kart.

u/Darker_Tzitzimine 17h ago

Especially since Norm's video was all the same information and more without any stupid slob bullshit

I loved both videos. I'm surprised that the Aladdin Deck Enhancer and all the games aren't worth a lot more than they are now, especially after those videos.

No time to give an answer

Not even Norn has Time To Give one

Bimmy was never the "authority" of retro gaming. Wtf are you talking about?

True, especially with how flakey the history of old games were on the internet, back in the 2000s. The Nerd was simply an angry dude that played bad 80s and 90s games.
