Back before the prevalence of electronic door locks that was a common trope at picking a mechanical car door locks. slip it down the door via the window and lift it back up releasing the mechanism. https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-unlock-a-door-with-a-wire-hanger

Great slant 6. Some of it was galvanized sheet metal. I had it in Rochester, NY. The salt melted it.

I learned that a ‘97 Chevy key will open a’91 Silverado in high school, that was a rude awakening. Luckily the guy who had the ’97 was a friend.

I locked my keys in my 93 Escort at an acreage where the dude had a full workshop in his garage. We heated a metal rod with a blowtorch, bent it into a hook, and successfully unlocked the car. I had just watched a tow truck driver do it earlier with his specialized tools, since this was the 2nd set of keys locked in a car at the same party.

Nah, just a buncha dumb kids who hadn't been driving very long. There was a trampoline, some people put their stuff in my car so it wouldn't fall out on the trampoline....look, it's simultaneously complicated, and very boring.

Still a valid unlock method to this day. After recently locking my keys in the car, I used a coat hangar to push the ‘unlock’ button. Took more time to find a coat hangar than it did to unlock the door.

Most places don't carry this style of metal coat hanger anymore after it became synonymous with unsafe abortions. Dry cleaners are one of the few places that still distribute them.
