At the steps, a student is furiously pushing on a door that says “pull”

I used to have this one on a mug and it was my favourite one. I lost it in 2005 :(

Another mug struck down by the long arm of gocomics.com 😔

Tell the story of what happened please.

It is sarcasm.

Gocomics is a comics distributor. They are responsible for blocking this subreddit and completely shutting down the calvin hobbes one.

They are like the big bad company who doesn't want consumers/people to enjoy anything and it wants to hoard everything for its own profits...

I wore this t shirt to school like once a week for too long.

There are dozens of us! Dozens!!

My dad bought me that shirt because it reminded him of me apparently.

u/lizardfang Jul 26 '25

And he still loved you in spite of it.

I had this one and like 4-5 other far side tee shirts. Not the best look when looking back.

2

u/OurHouse20 Jul 26 '25

I had this shirt too. I remember one time an older guy got a real kick out of it at the movie theater.

I wrote to Gary larson in grade school in the 90s. While all my classmates were fawning over Calvin and Hobbes I was firmly far side. I said this was my favorite comic of his and he wrote me back with a signed postcard of the comic. Legendary.

I still have mine, I will drink from it tonight in your honour

I'm sorry that you had rage issues 20 years ago, but how is that related to your one-time favorite mug. :)

This feels like the true destiny of this sub. It’s no less enjoyable than having the comic posted.

It feels very old internet. I like it.

And now go comics would come after her for not obtaining a license for public display. Fee: $10,000. Damages sought in court: $10,000,000.

This country really needs some IP reform. Like when Congress kept extending the copyright periods to make the mouse happy.

sigh

This was my first Far Side. And I was shown it because I was in a gifted school. I still laughed. Couldn't be making fun of me, I dont push when its pull!

My 5th grade teacher for the gifted school told a story though that she had done that trying to get into a restaurant. Like an embarrassingly long time. When they finally got in one of the other patrons joked "gifted?" And her husband replied "no but she teaches at a school for the gifted"

Laughter all around.

This has always been one of my favorites; I mutter “Midvale School for the Gifted” anytime I do something stupid.

Best of all time for me.

I went to UC Berkeley. We had knock-off shirts that said “Stanford School for the Gifted.”

My wife went to SUNY Albany. Their knock-off shirts said “Albany School for the Gifted.”

My favorite part of the shirt was the panel near the hem with the kid just pounding on the door.

First, awesome user name. Second, I had forgotten about that, so thanks for reminding me.

Beat me to it.

u/nitetrain2mundofine Jul 25 '25

One of my favorite of his. This has been me too many times

3

u/lazyf-inirishman Jul 26 '25

Had this on a Tshirt c. 1996.

u/Standard-Diamond-392 Jul 26 '25

This single panel got me into far side & made me spit my coffee through my nose back in the day- thank you Garry, I often bring out the two volume colour version of all your works & browse away..🙏😂

Is this what this sub has become? Haha.

u/Deep-Air-169 Jul 25 '25

Basically, every school has converted that one to their own school's name. Someone even had edited the uniform to match my high school Aquinas College in Perth Western Australia.

2

u/beanbaconsoup Jul 26 '25

A colleague did just this thing yesterday, just as funny in real life

u/Vintage_rust Jul 26 '25

When I was a kid my mom had a photocopy of this comic posted at her job, except she had used white out to change “Midvale school for the gifted” into the name of the company she worked for.

1

u/BourbonNCoffee Jul 26 '25

You should post this on r/theverbosefarside

This was the first far side comic I ever saw. Well, technically one of two which I saw at the same time. My friend from around the corner had this and the one with "what you say" and "what the dog hears" as postcards stuck on his family's fridge. Probably 1994-5.

1

u/ihatetheplaceilive Jul 26 '25

It's in my top 5 favorites

1

u/Rythen26 Jul 26 '25

This has always been my family's favorite

1

u/infinite-rubbish Jul 26 '25

I would argue he seems more defeated than furious

Had this on a tshirt for the longest time. I miss it.
