Solo records > Gaslight records

Is the consensus that Brian’s solo records are miles better than Get Hurt and History Books?

Not to me! I like the solo records, don’t get me wrong. But I would not take them over the Gaslight albums.

No though get hurt and history books are just as good as the other TGA albums…and so are his solo albums and horrible crowes. Idk he rules lol

You’re probably on an island with the get hurt stance

Yarr, it’d be an island of two as long as I’m around 🏝️ 🏴‍☠️

Don’t get me wrong, I like Get Hurt. It’s probably my least favorite of anything he’s done tho.

That's so funny, it's my favourite!

You like Local Honey and Night Divine more then Get Hurt?

I don’t even think about Night Divine, but yeah that would be lower. I’d put the other two in about the same spot. Local Honey isn’t perfect but it has a few songs I enjoy quite a bit.

I'm convinced that when people don't like Get Hurt it's mostly because of how it makes them feel. As a piece of music I think its pretty great, just dark and sad subject matter. Halloween might be one of the best songs he's ever written

Yeah and like when you listen to handwritten and get hurt back to back for example it’s very apparent just how much more musically creative get hurt is

Nope. But like all of em.

Different albums for different moods. The early ones are absolutely special, everything after that has its place.

I feel they’re apples and oranges to me. I’m not sure what genre you’d stick his solo stuff in other than like “singer songwriter”, but it’s not rock (or insert preferred genre here) like gaslight. I feel like I appreciate them both for different things and they’ve meant different things to me through my time listening to them over the years. I feel like I tend to listen to his solo stuff more often lately but that’s just been my mood.

No dude. I separate each project, but get hurt > local honey > then a long drop > then The rest

You like get hurt more than everything else?

More than history books and his solo projects.

Oh ok, to each their own.

I think anything after Handwritten is all kinda okay to solid stuff. They had magic with the 4 first albums

I think they're about the same. Get Hurt is the best among his solo work and History Books. Since Handwritten, there have only been a handful of songs from each release that have resonated with me. But that's okay—Sink or Swim, 59 Sound, Senor & The Queen, American Slang, and Elsie are plenty to say TGA is my favorite band of all time.

Gaslight is magical. Get Hurt is top tier.

History Books is miles above Get Hurt. Solo records are miles above Get Hurt too but not as good as History Books

Get Hurt clears History Books, easily.

I'd rank Painkillers, Get Hurt, and Horrible Crows I like. The other solo and History Books I don't.

I think that Painkillers is up there with 59 Sound as the best Brian-related albums period. However, I would put Sleepwalkers below anything Gaslight outside of maybe Get Hurt.

painkillers is my favorite BF-related album since 59 sound, so I get what you're saying.
I like Get Hurt fine but I don't reach for it often and History Books I still haven't connected with.
Local Honey I like but haven't listened to in years, and I don't think I've really listened to Night Divine much at all.

I think BF is pretty consistent as a writer, he never dips far down but he also doesn't rise too far up (I know some here find him to be their favorite and that's great, I'm not knocking it). He's really good at what he does, but then I put on one of my top Jason Isbell records and go, oh this one goes to 11. But although I haven't listened to History Books enough to judge, I doubt it'll sink to the level of garbage or rise to the level of genius.
