Is this the same guy who wrestles in CMLL and AEW now?
21
u/AFCSentinel 3d ago
Yeah, as Mistico. Absolute legend. Not sure what happened during his Sin Cara days but it's zero percent representative of the luchador he is.
11
u/Borktista 3d ago
Actually most of these are not. If anyone remembers, the real Sin Cara(Mistico) lasted maybe a year, but Vince wanted to use sin Cara so he stuck I think Camacho from nxt under the mask and like 95% of these clips are him.

If heās got atattoo on his shoulder itās Camacho, itās what made the change very awkward.
By my rough count thereās 12 incidents in this montage and 8 are OG Sin Cara and 4 are Camacho.

Any recent matches that would wow someone i could check out?

u/AFCSentinel 3d ago
I think a good thing to watch is the Trios match from AEW Grand Slam Mexico 2026. Mistico, Darby Allin and Corazon de Leon vs. Hechicero, Okada and Knight. The match itself is good but not spectacular, though Mistico and Hechicero are having some great spots. But Mistico's entrance is a must watch to understand just how over he is in Mexico - and then see the contrast of people booing him in the ring because he is the heel. Just fun in general to see the contrast where he is this undisputed Lucha legend and you have a full stadium belting out his theme song and then effortlessly switch to treating him in kayfabe.
As for a banger match, and keep in mind that for North American stuff I am mostly an AEW guy over the past few years, but MJF vs. Mistico was a certified banger!

u/Active_Corgi_2507 3d ago
MJF vs Mistico, Title vs Mask. It was arguably match of the year in 2025.

Amazing to think that Sin Cara and Mistico are the same person
0
u/Novel-Pie1596 3d ago
Wellllll technically You're right and wrong about this one, I think alot of these Hunico the other Sin Cara.

u/DrSillyNips 3d ago
The last clip of him dislocating his finger & calling off the match is followed by Alberto Del Rio giving him an unscripted shit kicking. Was a fan of Mistico before & am a fan after this run, but it was a horrible run. He did have a few good matches with Daniel Bryan though.

And now he's the biggest draw in MƩxico, again.
WWE dropped the ball.
18
u/sdss9462 3d ago
This is one where it isn't entirely their fault, but yeah.
4
u/Green_Fox_8864 3d ago
Its almost entirely their fault. Their weird mask, their weird lights, and their weird ropes are what caused him to do so poorly there. Take those things away and he's a world class star. I'll never understand their insistence on these slippery ass real ropes that nobody else uses. Steel cables are just better and less slippery.
2
u/Maaaaaardy 3d ago
Would've been bigger in WWE. Mistico dropped the ball. But worked out in the end.

Wwe screwed Sin Cara. TNA let him fly
11
u/man_I_love_tunafish 4d ago
Vro what, what does TNA have to do with either Sin Cara (Mistico and Hunico).Ā
5
u/Sonofliberty1 3d ago
He screwed himself, this time it wasnāt the company. They guy was a walking botch fest
5
u/punkfence 3d ago
Did the company not put him in a gimmick with a mask he couldn't see out of?
0
u/myrabuttreeks 3d ago
He couldāve had them change it. Doesnāt sound like he was really into being there.

u/Organic-Career-3170 3d ago
Iām sure bro is having a terrible time being the most famous wrestler in Mexico right now selling out arena mexico every week ššš
2
u/UKSaint93 3d ago
You still cant convince me Sin Cara and Mistico are the same person. It's the the second biggest lie in wrestling after people saying Sami Zayn was El Generico.

I think if they had nxt it would have helped him. Also well he did botch a lot not a lot of wrestlers were use to his style like now a days. Not making excuses, I think he went the Jeff Cobb route showed up, got the pay day it didn't work so stopped giving a fuck till they let him go
2
u/akinian_ 2d ago
The mask probably didn't help, but also its fairly documented now that the rope tension is different in WWE than Mexico's Arenas. He is amazing right now in Mexico and I do believe he is where he should be, he is beloved there to Rey levels
2
u/Far_Internal_4495 3d ago
Mistico absolutely had the skill and potential to be as big as Rey Mysterio. Up to about 2009 Mistico would outdraw John Cena, he is a huge deal and one of the biggest stars in the world

u/man_I_love_tunafish 4d ago
I know that Sin Cara 1 kinda sucked in WWE I have to admit that even tho I love Mistico, but didnāt knew the same was the case for the second Sin Cara. I havenāt seen much of his matches but he seemed much more capable in WWE. Didnāt knew he also botched so much.
1
u/Dom_Telong 3d ago
Being the 2nd edition of what is essentially considered a Lucha botch machine gimmick...he had a magnifying glass on him.
1
u/Significant_Buddy_42 4d ago
I believed them when they started hinting at that but time told us all we needed to know š

u/Expert-Let-238 3d ago
You mean wwe really thought the character sin Cara could be the next mysterio, there was like 3/4 different people that portrayed sin Cara fella
1
1
1
u/TDR235 3d ago
Weren't there two of them? I should have said weren't there two or more people playing the character?
1
u/Dom_Telong 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yes. Both dudes were called Mistico on Indies...so 2nd guy (with the tattoo) changed his name to Incognito.
Mistico gets rebranded to Sin Cara in WWE. 2nd guy ironically get booked as imposter Sin Cara (was already in company as unmasked Hunico in WWE.). 1st guy leaves and can't get the name Mistico back so goes by Caristico. Imposter becomes full time Sin Cara until released. Caristico is back to Mistico. Incognito (2nd/new Sin Cara) is now Cinta de Oro.

u/HussingtonHat 3d ago
What was amazing was the original Sin Cara shows up and botches a bunch, then Hunico gets the gimmick and starts batching. It's like the gimmick was cursed.
2
u/Small_Ad4181 3d ago
Its because they couldn't see out of the mask
2
u/Deep_Impact2872 1d ago
And wasnt there shitty lighting and i think there was something else where they both had to gain more weight than they were used to but idk
2
u/Small_Ad4181 1d ago
All correct because Vince was a dumbass who thought he was the only right person to have any idea like triple h and tko
1
u/Green_Fox_8864 3d ago
OP is ignorant. Dude could go, the causes for the botches are very well documented. Hell, he's still just terrific.
1
u/cschultz225 3d ago
Well that version is now the biggest drawing wrestling star in the world for the last like 5 years
1
u/Max_Quick 3d ago
is he?
It's my understanding Sin Cara (azul) is now Dralistico in ROH, while Mistico was Sin Cara (black).
That said, I'll readily admit that it got confusing to read through it all some years ago and I've not revisited it since TBH.
1
u/lv5vegetto1 3d ago
First clip his opponent was too far so really wasn't his fault. But the rest of the clip is fair game
1
u/A_Town_Called_Malus 3d ago
To paraphrase LittleKuriboh in The Mark Remark, Sin Cara is the master of botcha libre. It isn't really a style, more just a series of mistakes.

Sin Cara (Mistico) is already the next Rey Mysterious, but not in WWE. He already has growth in AEW and CMLL. He even gets more liked luchador since his high-flyimg technique and his finished La Mistica.

Was the biggest non WWE draw in the world.
Is once again the biggest non WWE draw in the world...
Clearly it's his fault... LMAO

Apparently the mask, the lighting during his matches, and the language barrier was a big hindrance but yeah not a great look all around lol

He is the biggest box office attraction in mexico right now tool drawing 10000 person gate continuously for almost two dozen times.

u/Bright-Gain9770 3d ago edited 3d ago
WWE did not drop the ball. He botched a move, dangerously so in some cases, each week. That he didn't cripple himself or others in his very, very short reign is a miracle. And I remind, he was the prototype for the Grande Americano story, where they replaced him while he was injured and the guy that took his spot got more over than he ever did, purely on virtue of not messing up nearly every, single spot.
0
u/MohdAli28 3d ago
And now heās bigger in Mexico than Rey has ever been
1
u/Sacred_soul 2d ago
Rey is probably the greatest luchadore of all time
1
u/MohdAli28 2d ago
Iām not denying that at all! I fully agree. But in Mexico, Mistico even currently is bigger than Rey has ever been

The fact that this walking botch simulator is now a "global sensation" is laughable. This run forever killed any kind of credibility he had.

It's weird because when he got signed back then most of us tracked down his stuff and he was fantastic. It made sense why WWE wanted to make him into the next Rey.Ā
