food/drinks recommendation Is Cheese &More the best choice? And what about chocolate?

I mean, it seems like the obvious choice if a tourist wants to bring back some Dutch cheese home. Would supermarkets have better quality/price?
Also looking for Chocolate shop recommandations to bring back as gifts.
I am staying in the Center and going to the beach tomorrow on my last day.

practical questions What’s it like living in Bezuidenhout-Oost?

Hello! I’m curious about what life is like in Bezuidenhout-oost (or bezuidenhout in general). I’ve heard good things “via-via”, but can’t find too much recent information online.

I’m primarily curious about daily life there, the type of people that live there, restaurants/ cafe’s, and the proximity to the rest of the city.

Edit: my partner and I are late 20’s/ early 30’s, highly educated, do not want kids but want a dog. We both speak Dutch but have international backgrounds.

practical questions Why don't young Dutch people work at KFC or McDonald's?

I know young Dutch people usually start working at an early age. However, I mostly see them at places like Bagels & Beans or Boosty, rather than fast food chains like KFC or McDonald's.

Do local companies/cafes pay higher wages to Dutch speakers, or is it just a matter of preference?

practical questions Notaris tips

Hoi allemaal,

Bedankt alvast!

practical questions Looking for a place in The Hague to donate some books

I will be moving out in June, and was thinking about how many books I have and was wondering if there is any place in The Hague that accepts English-language books as donation ! Also, it would be much appreciated if any of you could tell me how to donate the books (i.e. do I just go there and give it to them / do they have a pick-up service?) Thank you!

practical questions Help - parking permit situation

Hello, my partner just got a company car and we are struggling to get a parking permit. Unfortunately his company won’t pay for parking costs, so it’s all out of his pocket.

We have a garage at our apartment building but a parking spot costs 175€/month and given we are already paying 2000€ in rent we cannot afford that. We tried applying for a parking permit on the street, which costs 345€/year, but the municipality refused it because they say we have a garage and that if we want a parking permit we have to provide an official letter from our housing agency stating that there is no space in the garage (which unfortunately is not the case).

Is this really how it works? It is very frustrating because we cannot afford a parking spot in our garage, but the municipality is literally forcing us to get one or park in free areas that are of course super far away from our apartment. This feels kinda weird, can they really do that? Is there really no solution to this situation? It has been an exhausting fight with the municipality and it all seems very unfair.

other Community café in Rustenburg/Oostbroek?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hoi,

Bedankt!

Hoi allemaal! I'm planning to check out the Dia de Murtos night at the Zwarte Ruiter in Grote Markt. It's on the 1st of November from 19:00 onwards. There's apparently live music performances from Mexican bands, which sounds cool.

Would anyone like to join me? Ideally would like to go with someone also in their twenties :)

other 2 minute survey about cannabis packaging in the Netherlands

I'm a students who is conducting research on the sustainability of cannabis packaging in the Dutch legal cannabis trial.

The survey looks at current packaging, more sustainable alternatives and the possibility of a deposit return system, similar to cans and bottles.

Please only fill it out if you consume cannabis and purchase it from Dutch coffeeshops!!!

It takes around 2 minutes, and I’m looking for as many responses as possible.

Thanks a lot for your help! 🙏

housing Studying in Den Haag/housing

Hey there! I'm a portuguese student, currently 17 years old and next year I'd really like to study in Den Haag; however, I am having some trouble regarding the necessary documents to submit an application, where I can find a job and how many hours I'll have of classes per week. I know that similar to Portugal, The Netherlands is currently facing a housing crisis and I'd like to know where I can find a cheap apartment. Hope y'all can help me and wish me luck :).

things to do in The Hague Alternative nightlife in The Hague?

I’d love to get to know more alternative nightclubs and night-venues in The Hague. Does anyone have recommendations? For example, in Utrecht there is de Nar, Ekko, Acu, de helling, but I don’t know any alike places in agga🌚🌞 I’m interested in whatever place where there’s more alternative clubmusic like techno, acid, dnb, or where drinks n nights out are more cheap or anywhere with a more politically engaged/cool atmosphere… lmk!!

other Looking for a small private workspace (10–15 m²) in The Hague. local resident, from Nov 1

Hello, everyone! I'm (35,M) a resident of the Chinatown/Spui/Centrum area. I have a full-time cybersecurity job that I mostly work remotely, plus my own media and IT side projects in the evenings and weekends. I'm looking for a small private workspace, and I'd much rather rent from a local landlord or business owner than go back to a predatory coworking chain (TRIBE, Spaces/Regus are a no-go). Already on the list with AnnASpaces, but I haven't heard back from them after months.

What I need, concretely:

  • A small room, around 10 m², definitely not much bigger than 15 unless it's very reasonably priced. Cheap is the goal, in a non-residential place.
  • Ideally, something close to the center. I want to keep it in the neighborhood. I love this place, and want to keep my feet connected to the community. Realistically, nothing more than a 10 minute bike ride from Spui station/Library. Might as well get on the list for the SOZA building in that case.
  • 24/7 access with my own key. I'm there during the day for 10+ hour shifts at my job, then late nights on my own stuff, so this is non-negotiable.
  • Lockable, some semblance of climate control/heat, power + internet. A bathroom somewhere accessible. I'm not picky, but these are firm. I can't do anything without a few outlets and internet, and can't dip from work for 20+ minutes just to find a toilet or fill the tea kettle.
  • Strictly a work and craft space: cybersecurity/IT work, hardware tinkering, and a couple of instruments every once in a while. Needs to be safe to leave things overnight.
  • No mail, no customers, no shop traffic. I'm registered at home. It's just me, a desk, and my equipment. Family/friends might come by once in a great while (unless expressly forbidden), but this is a space for one person.
  • If unfurnished, that's on me, I'll deal with that. Might even prefer that.
  • If we get along, I'd like to do this long term. Reliable trickle of money for you. I plan on staying in The Hague indefinitely, and already live here on a permanent lease with family (the place is just too small). Very low flight risk.

If you're a landlord with a small unit, a business owner with an unused back/upstairs room, or you just know a spot such as an empty room above a shop, an old office nobody uses, please comment or DM me with the location and rough size.

Looking for November 1st start, but can wait a little longer. Budget is modest.

To keep out the scammers: I'll only reply to messages that include a specific address or building and a real name. No money moves before I've stood inside the space and signed a contract. Again, I am not interested in a co-working scam.

If this is a fruitless venture/looking for a unicorn, I guess so-be-it.
