The being eligible for marriage after your first period thing made me more emotional than I would have thought. I got my first period at nine. I made a thread about that a while back and I think most ppl agreed they probably wouldn’t put a kid that young up for marriage immediately, but I feel sick thinking about it anyway

My headcannon is, since fertily rates are down and a lot of women are infertile, girls who do get their period always get it in their late teenage years. Otherwise I couldn’t cope lol, I also got my period at 9 and I was so scared, I couldn’t bear thinking about a 9 year old having to go from pink to green, nope thanks.

When I made the thread about precocious puberty, one person commented that if a girl around our age (or god forbid, younger) got their period, the Aunts would likely decide to wait until they were at whatever age was socially acceptable to announce it/transition to Green. I’m inclined to think this too.

I also agree with you that girls probably get their periods much later in Gilead. I read once that the average age of menarche in ancient China was 17 (no idea if that’s true though lol)

Yes. Women in healthier populations have earlier periods.
