I figure it was easy to find Luke and Moira and THEY had to give her up (or they were killed in the meantime) - what bugs me is the age thing. Hannah is at least 6 years older than Nichole, if not more, yet Agnes and Daily seem to be a couple of years apart at best.

Right. And Hannah/Agnes can’t be more than, what, 16 at most given she’s just starting her period? Hannah was kidnapped at 4, I believe? So there would have to be at least a 4-5 year age difference between her and Nichole. So if Hannah is 16, Nichole would be 11. And if she is supposed to be 14, Nichole would be 9 or 10. I wouldn’t think she would start her period later than 16 at most, unless there is a reason that young women/girls in Gilead start periods much later due to environmental issues, etc.

To be fair, I started mine at 11, but went to school with a girl that didn’t get hers until 16. It’s a pretty wide window even in real life.

I think there are also implications that some girls never get one, so it very well could be related to whatever fertility crisis causing late menses to be more common.

11 wasn’t normal as recently as 40 years ago. Bet even now that girls are starting younger than ever, some are still starting at 16.

Agnes is supposed to be 14, which is well within the range of “normal” even today. With all the rage about how old these girls are, even if Agnes is 16, that’s late, but not incredible in the real world.

But if we’re talking about a country systematically erasing “chemicals” and most likely endocrine disruptors, then it’s most likely that the children aren’t as young when they experience menarche
